Seaside Dentistry - General dentist in Swansboro, NC

Donna M. Gentry, DDS,was born to a military family in Corpus Christi, TX. She received her bachelors and masters degrees at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN, and her dental degree at Meharry Medical College in Nashville. After graduation, she completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency with the Navy Post Graduate Program.

Immediately following graduation, Dr. Gentry fulfilled her military scholarship obligation with the United States Navy. During her four years stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC, as a naval dental officer and then three more as a civil service dentist for the Marines, she developed a deep compassion for treating patients with severe dental phobia and anxiety. After leaving Camp Lejeune, she worked in private practice in Wilmington before opening SeaSide Dentistry in the region that has been home to her large extended family since the 1960s.

Dr. Gentry is an active participant in the community, working with Gateway Alliance, the 5k Glow Run for Cape Carteret, and the Light Festival. She is also a member of the American Dental Association. She has been blessed with two daughters, Ashley-Marie and Savannah, and a wonderful husband, Steve. She cares deeply about her family and feels it is very important to put them first in her life.

Dr. Rachel Tucker is an Alabama native. Her hometown is Huntsville, the Rocket City, where the Apollo rockets were built. Following family tradition, she attended college at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, where she graduated magna cum laude in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and a Bachelor of Arts in French. She immediately matriculated to University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB) School of Dentistry, where she excelled both academically and in student leadership. She was awarded her DMD in 2014. Dr. Tucker is also residency trained, having completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) at Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia, in 2015. While there, she worked with the Army dentists at Tingay Dental Clinic on Fort Gordon as well as the oral surgery department of Augusta University. After her residency, she returned to Alabama to practice.

In November, she was excited to accept an associate position with SeaSide Dentistry to help Dr. Donna Gentry serve her growing practice. In her free time, Dr. Tucker enjoys physical fitness, her church community, and time spent with friends, family and her boyfriend, who is stationed at Cherry Point. She takes her retired racing greyhound, Maybelle, with her wherever she can.

I wish I could give more stars because the dentist and one dental assistant that have done work on me were great with communication and customer service. They even finished dental work where I left off in Charlotte. The office itself is also very nice and decorated. However, I paid for the insurance plan through them 6 months ago and still have yet to get scheduled for a cleaning because they're "down one hygienist". I did originally have one scheduled when I moved here but had to cancel due to other circumstances. Every time I call it's "you're on the list and we will call when there's an opening". At this point I'll be surprised if I get one cleaning before my year mark. They got plenty of money for my dental implant and retainers already too. When it came to billing, I was overcharged for a different implant I didn't end up getting and I had to contact them multiple times to make sure I was refunded the money since I preferred that over a credit with them. The very first time I was in, a student did my X-rays without using the lead aprons for protection and while I didn't make a big fuss about it I do think students in training should be more closely monitored and learn the proper procedures. At this time with them being short staffed, I wouldn't recommend wasting your money to pay for their in house dental plan because you're likely not going to get your money worth with what is supposed to be covered (2 cleanings within a year).

I have 2 little kids 4 and 2. I was nervous about taking them both there at the same time but the staff made the experience very smooth and easy. Everybody is super friendly and accommodating.

Had a great experience until I spoke with a guy named Marco. Then was told I owe $238 for a partial I can't wear and did not authorize. I told them to hold off til I gave the go ahead. Very disappointed. Plus paid over $1000 for iv sedation and haven't been to sleep yet. Then was told to be quiet when I was in pain. I loved this office and am very disappointed into what they have done to me after spending thousands of dollars.

The worst dentist office in the world. I had a tooth with a previous root canal and crown. They told me it had an infection beneath and I had to chose whether to get it extracted and replaced or go elsewhere to have the infection removed from beneath. I couldn't decide, I care about my teeth a lot. The receptionist Sue said "Go somewhere else, I'm not dealing with you anymore". I would've, but I already paid for all my X-rays. I didn't want to start from scratch with another dentist while in pain for so long already waiting for an appointment. I went in and seen Dr Tucker, whom was very compassionate. She said that she doesn't feel comfortable extracting it since she could tell I was unsure. However, I was unable to get into the other place and the pain became too much. Therefore, I went back and had Dr. Gentry extract the tooth. She left a very sharp, jagged piece sticking out of my top gums. I went back later for her to "file it down". During this procedure she "accidentally " dropped her tool and smashed my bottom teeth causing 10/10 pain. She then yelled "DO NOT TOUCH ME"! I was unaware I had touched her, apparently I had flailed from the pain of her negligent mishap. She then had 2 hygienists come and hold my arms down as if I was the problem . Mind you, I am unable to say anything with mouth full of stuff. When I could talk I asked her to acknowledge her blunder, which she did but no apology. My bottom jaw and almost all the teeth on one side were in extreme pain for weeks. I thought they were loose. Also, she prescribed meds after the extraction and filing episode -- however they weren't sent to the pharmacy. I called and spoke to Carlos 3-4x. He kept saying he would send the prescriptions but never actually did until I actually went in there. This happened every single game time. I would've left the practice but I had paid for their 1 year in house plan, which includes a discount for dental work and 2 Cleanings. I seen Dr Tucker to do some fillings, she was fantastic as always. The hygienists had always been good also. Dr Tucker said I can request to see her, which I always did. I went for a cleaning a few weeks ago and after I thought I was ready to go. However, in comes Dr. Gentry who insists that she had to examine me now. I refused politely as I could -- explaining that I only had negative experiences with her and positive experiences with Dr. Tucker. When I left the office, I was expecting to get my next appointment card -- as I had an entire treatment plan. However, I was told that they have no appointments available until after September -- which is when my in house plan expires. I realized that was ridiculous, and went in to speak to the manager Carlos about getting a refund and moving on. I have had enough -- and I'm willing to walk away. He said he would call me back the next day. He never called back. I went to a new dentist and they needed to get my records from Seaside dentistry. They called and were told that I was not a patient of theirs. I told them that it would probably be an issue. I'm strongly considering litigation at this point. They are extremely petty and purposefully providing negative customer service at every opportunity possible. There are countless other, childish tactics they have done -- I'm sure they think it's funny. However, they are supposed to be a "professional" healthcare providers. There is nothing professional about causing harm to your patient. There is nothing professional about being incompassionate to a patient who is in extreme pain. There is nothing professional about not sending antibiotics to the pharmacy -- when a patient just had an extraction and is prone to infection. So I go to a new dentist. And they call to get records from Seaside ("Good Luck") -- and seaside tells them they have never heard of me. Disgusting way to treat patients. You have no business running a healthcare practice. However, from my experience -- this is the very last practice I would ever recommend. I worked in healthcare administration for many years and never seen anything like this.

Absolutely amazing experience. From the moment I walked through the door the staff was polite and professional. I have high anxiety about dental work and was treated with kindness, compassion and patience. Everything was explain in the amount of detail I requested and the quality of dental work is the best I've ever had. Also the entire office is very clean and many disinfectant measures are obviously taken. Highly recommend this dental office and dentist. Wish I could give it 8 stars.

This was my first visit to this office and I researched them ahead of time looking for sedation dentistry for my TMJ. This place is fabulous but what makes it fabulous is the people! When you first walk in your greeted with a smile. My dental hygienist Debra was wonderful. I'm having sedation dental work done in June and I can honestly say for the first time in ever I'm not dreading it. If you want expert care, gentle, sweet people tending to you go there!

Dr. Gentry and Tucker are phenomenal both in knowledge, skill, and personality. That dynamic trickles throughout the organization when you speak and experience the techs, hygienist, and front admin staff. Wonderful practice that is family oriented.

As a newcomer, from check-in to check-out this has been the nicest dentistry experience ever! Courtney was my hygienist and she is perfect...the dentist, Dr. Tucker, was also amazing. The management team must be amazing because it is very telling how this office values customer service, from the everyone's kind disposition to watching Netflix on the tv monitor in the room! I will be referring everyone here. Thanks for a nice experience!
