Dr. Scott Shacknow has been serving the East Rutherford area for almost 30 years. After graduating from Lafayette College in 1981, he received his dental degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University dental school in 1985. There he received The Senior Honors Teaching Fellowship in prosthetic dentistry, and The Dental Materials Award in restorative dentistry. He then completed a residency in general dentistry at the prestigious Albert Einstein University Hospital in New York City. Dr. Shacknow takes many hours of continuing education to stay current.
At the core of our dental practice is a friendly team of professionals that have been with the office for an average of over 20 years andare dedicated to your utmost comfort and optimal oral health. We view each patient as a unique individual, and tailor each treatment to your specific needs. As part of our commitment to providing close, personalized attention to every patient, we want to encourage patient communication. Please know that we are here to provide outstanding patient care, and that we value the trust you have placed in us. We have several staff members that are bi-lingual in English and Spanish.

Hi, my name is Millie and I am a Dental Assistant. I have been with Dr. Shacknow since 1995. I am bilingual in English and Spanish which allows me to translate for our Spanish speaking patients. Regardless of which language you speak, I will make sure you are comfortable with the treatment you receive.
Hi, my name is Neisy and I am a Registered Dental Hygienist. I joined the team in April, 2000. I love treating our patients and reviewing homecare. Ensuring you receive thorough comfortable treatment is my goal. In addition to working in the office, I also teach dental assisting. I am also bilingual in English and Spanish.

I have been going to Dr. Shacknow for over 6 years now. Every one in the office is so nice and accommodating. Neisy is wonderful. Gentle & quick. Dr. Shacknow is the same. Going to the dentist is not the most fun experience but they make is a good one!

Had a crown emergency while visiting the area and Googled dentist near me. Called Dr Shacknow's office after reading the reviews and they got me right in with no Insurance and fixed me right up. Everyone in the office was so friendly and made me feel like I was a longtime local patient. I would recommend this office to anyone. Thank you so much to the whole staff for the friendly professional service in my time of need.

After going to an unreliable dentist most of my life, it was time to look for a new dentist that I could trust. Dr. Shacknow was that dentist and his practice made me feel comfortable and calm while providing top notch service and a new perspective on oral hygiene. Upon leaving the office, Dr. Shacknow gave me action items and digestible information on how to improve my oral hygiene for our next visit. Thank you, Dr. Shacknow and the rest of the office!

I had to find a new dentist close to home and after reading so many good reviews, I visited Dr. Shacknow. He's a great dentist and has a fantastic staff. The office is clean and comfortable. I would recommend him to anyone.

I am very nervous about going to the dentist I visited Dr. Shocknow and he had to do 2 fillings. Dr. Shocknow made me feel so comfortable! I walked out of there not feeling a thing.......Thankfully!

The doctor is great however do NOT do business with them if you're not sure about your insurance would cover your visit. I spoke to them in June and gave all my insurance information (Horizon BCBS Healthy Smiles-$80/month) and the lady later told me that I'm covered. The insurance would pay 80% and I'm responsible for the other 20%. I had my dental visit on July 3rd and now they're telling me I'm out of network and I owe them $315! If I knew I was going to be out-of-network I would've never gone to them. Why would I pick a doctor who isn't in-network?! I'm not even sure if they do payment plans. This is outrageous. Again do not go to them if you're not sure about your insurance coverage. Call your insurance first which I should've done first. But I didn't because in the past the dental office corresponds with the insurance for validity of coverage. Unfortunately they didn't and now I'm stuck paying full amount that I cannot afford at times like this.

Dr.Shacknow and his team are absolutely amazing. I move to Jersey from NYC and had horrible experiences dealing with many different dentist. His office is the best office I ever been to, organized, clean and on time. I would recommend him to anyone.

I have been a patient of Dr. Shacknow's for over 10 years. From my 1st visit I felt comfortable with both the Dr. and his wonderful staff. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly you almost forget you are at the dentist! No waiting for appointments and they have both TV and radio playing in the rooms for patients to enjoy. If you are looking for a dentist who will make you feel comfortable and easy to talk to, Dr. Shacknow should be your choice!

I am a new transplant to NJ, and, as anyone who has made a big move knows, it's intimidating to try to find brand-new health care providers. Dr. Shacknow's office was just a gem of a find. I got one of their mailers and contacted them on a whim. Turns out they were only 5 min away! The staff has all been there for 20+ years and they are so kind and friendly and make you feel right at home. Dr. Shacknow is warm and humorous. I had to get a cleaning and then to go back in for a couple fillings. I didn't have to wait either time. They are efficient, experienced, and gentle. I will keep going back for as long as I live here. Thanks for taking good care of me!
