Dr. Schumer comes from a family of dental professionals. His father is a general dentist in Michigan and his brother is a general dentist in New York. Growing up, Dr. Schumer had the privilege to watch his father provide dentistry to his patients, and the joy and comfort he brought them. This is what inspired him to enter the dental profession: making people smile.

Dr. Schumer attendedWayne State Universityand achieved pre-bachelors acceptance toUniversity of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. This allowed him to finish dental school in fewer years than normal, and start providing quality services to his community. While in Detroit, Dr. Schumer treated an underprivileged and poor community, so as toenhancehis skills with very difficult and medically compromised patients.

Dr. Schumers quality work, high ethical standards, and passion to succeed drives him to consistently improve his knowledge and training in dentistry. He continues his education in all aspects of dentistry with an emphasis on aesthetics and implant restoration. He is also active in the Arizona Dental Association and the American Dental Association.

I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, but moved to Tucson in 1991. I have enjoyed working in various fields, always making people smile, which finally led me to a career in dentistry. I attended Pima Medical Institute and graduated in 2007 as a certified dental assistant. I interned at this office and was hired after graduating, and have spent the past nine years in the front office gaining knowledge of insurance billing and coding and scheduling, while working with patients.

Hi, my name is Kayla. I have been in the dental field for three years, working in the_ front office and helping the back office as needed. I enjoy working and continuing to learn here at Dr. Schumers office. When I am not working I enjoy spending time with my kids, running and swimming.

Two years ago I joined the wonderful team of Schumer Dental as the office business manager. My main responsibilities include making sure the business side of the practice runs smoothly and efficiently. I enjoy working with such a professional staff who are dedicated to giving the best dental care possible and who really care about their patients. I am a native of Arizona and attended the University of Arizona where I earned a bachelors degree in business management. I have two beautiful children Alyssa and Damian and love being a mother and spending as much time traveling and sharing experiences with them.

I have been a dental hygienist since 2001. I love working with my patients to help them achieve good oral health. I decided to get involved in dentistry because as a child and youth, we did not see the dentist unless a tooth hurt. I have had a lot of the procedures that we do. I can empathize with my patients when they need treatment. I really do understand the apprehension that can sometimes occur when in the dental chair.

I have been married to my wonderful husband for over 20 years. We have a son & a daughter. I love taking a big family vacation every summer. We always go to where there is water! I also love horses. I have an Arabian & we love to trail ride. I like being outside & love the winters here in AZ.

Born and raised in Nogales, I graduated from Nogales High School in 2009. Shortly after, I moved to Tucson where I started school at Carrington College and graduated as a dental assistant. At Dr. Schumers office, I assist with patient care and help out at the front desk when needed. I have been in the dental field for 10 years and I aspire to carry on many more joyful years of making patients happy. On my time off, I like to spend time with my husband Victor, our three dogs and my wonderful family.

Persistent dry mouth can cause a variety of uncomfortable symptoms, including cracked lips, a sore throat, and a feeling of stickiness. Decreased saliva can also lead to frequent thirst and mouth sores.

Without sufficient saliva, normal daily activities can be more difficult. You may struggle to speak due to a hoarse voice or need to drink water frequently in order to swallow. Many individuals with dry mouth also have a decreased sense of taste.

Smoking and chewing tobacco can affect the amount of saliva you produce and exacerbate dry mouth. Regularly breathing with your mouth open can also contribute to dry mouth symptoms. Individuals with seasonal allergies or other conditions that limit their ability to breathe through their nose may suffer with frequent dry mouth as well.

Dry mouth is a common side effect of hundreds of prescription and over-the-counter medications, including antidepressants, antihistamines, and pain relievers. Some cancer therapies can also affect saliva.

Decreased salivation is also associated with health conditions. Nerve damage in the head or neck can affect salivary glands. Dry mouth can also result from diabetes, Alzheimers disease, and certain autoimmune disorders.

There are a variety of products available to lubricate the inside of your mouth. Your dentist may recommend a prescription or over-the-counter mouthwash designed for dry mouth, artificial saliva, or a moisturizer.
