I recently had a problem with a permanent retainer. Even though I had not been one of their patients, they were able to fit me in last minute. The assistant took her time to work me into the schedule. Despite being squeezed in between other appointments, they took their time to repair the retainer and explain both why and what they were doing. The appointment did not feel rushed. I received excellent treatment from Joe and his staff. Thank you.

The short version of my review is that Dr. Schuchert did a fantastic job on my teeth, was so nice and friendly during my treatment and I would highly recommend him to any kid or adult who is lucky enough to need braces during their time in State College. A little more detail on what Dr. Schuchert helped me through: I have Cleidocranial Dysplasia, a rare condition from birth that effects different bones in my body, but especially my teeth. Essentially I had a row of baby teeth, a row of adult teeth and a row of impacted teeth in between - all pointing in different directions. Growing up, I had a few oral surgeries to remove my impacted teeth, but my adult teeth still weren't coming in on their own. Eventually, it was time to go to college and Penn State was my #1 choice. After Freshman year, I went back home (to a distant state) in the summer and my oral surgeon got me in contact with an orthodontist because he wanted to start me on the process of surgically exposing my adult teeth and having them physically pulled into place in my mouth. The first orthodontist I saw, told me if I didn't leave Penn State and go to college near him, he would not work on me. The second one offered to start my case with my oral surgeon and then hand me off to an orthodontist in State College when I went back to school - with the condition that whoever it was had to be up for what turned out to be a five year challenge. Enter Dr. Schuchert - not only was he willing to let a different orthodontist start and finish my case, but he was 100% up for the challenge. When I went in for my first real visit with Dr. Schuchert, I had very little teeth in my mouth and a puzzle-like number of chains attached in every which direction to my adult teeth. Dr. Schuchert was responsible for delicately yet aggressively pulling in almost every single one of my adult teeth as well as positioning, rotating and straightening them. At the end of the journey, my case was a success and in great part thanks to Dr. Schuchert. He was compassionate and willing to work with me when others weren't, he was excited about the opportunity to work on a challenging patient's case, he was always upbeat and positive about my progress (even when I felt impatient), and he was successful at giving me the smile I have always wanted. I can't thank or recommend Dr. Schuchert enough, but I hope this post helps convince you that with him, your smile is in great hands.

As an adult receiving orthodontic care in State College, I received excellent service from Joe and his team. He took a very purposeful approach in helping me straighten my teeth. I couldn't be happier with the result. My son currently sees both Dr. Schuchert and Dr. Mariano and we are also happy with the customized approach they are giving him. Lastly, the staff at Schuchert Ortho is extremely friendly and accommodating. I had to cancel or move a few appointments in the past and they've been extremely accommodating.
