As a dentist, I have the privilege of protecting or rebuilding an extremely important aspect of my patients lives: their oral health and smile. When a person has excellent dental health and is confident in their smile, their life is happier. Im able to help people improve their mouths health, and the overall quality of their life.
I am honored by the trust my patients place in me. Each comes to me with their own needs and goals, and relies on me to correctly address the needs and assist them in reaching their goals. Along the way, we develop a relationship that extends beyond that of dental provider and patient: we often become friends. I look forward to each persons visits as a time to hear the latest news and strengthen our relationship.
I particularly enjoy working with patients with dental anxiety. Its a pleasure to help them learn that a visit to my office is nothing to dread. My team and I offer a warm and safe environment, and practice only painless dentistry. Were here to provide reassurance and encouragement. Watching someone move from dental phobia to dental health, and positive feelings about coming to see us, is rewarding.
I choose to participate in continuing education courses because the science and art of dentistry is expanding at laser speed. The courses I take ensure I am able to provide my patients with the best treatments and care experience possible.
After growing up in Dedham, MA, Ive now lived in Duxbury for more than 40 years. I have a wonderful family of married and surrogate children, as well as six incredible granddaughters. When Im not caring for my patients, I enjoy attending my granddaughters various extracurricular activities, including concerts, theater, dancing, swimming, soccer, basketball, and lacrosse. I also enjoy golfing with friends and spending time in my garden.

I was born and raised here in Massachusetts. I recieved my BS in Mathematics from Bridgewater State University in 2001. I started my dental assisting career in 2003, and became a member of DANB and a certified dental assistantin 2004.
I was born in North Carolina and raised in Texas. I've lived in Massachusetts for the past 17 years. With over 20 years of experience in the dental field as a Certified Dental Assistant with additional training in OSHA, Infection Control and HIPAA Compliance I am able to treat my patients with kindness and compassion.

Very disappointed by this office. Arrived 10 min late for an 8am appointment this morning, and was told by two elderly women at the front desk that they would have to go check with the dr to see if he could still see me (?). One of the receptionists goes away while the other starts collecting my paperwork. I am then informed that the dentist can do x-rays but not a cleaning, which is the whole reason I was there. However, while telling me the dentist doesn't have time for a cleaning, she sees my delta dental insurance card and says "oh you have insurance? I thought you had mass health (I don't)? Let me go check again." Very strange/poor experience at best, and I obviously did not reschedule here. If you're a mom with a baby at home and might be a few minutes late at any point, wouldn't recommend making an appointment here.

I don't remember how I ended up landing on Dr Schortmann's patient list, but he is the best dentist I have ever been too. I am extremely grateful I found his practice. His entire staff is a delight. They are warm and friendly, and if you are a nervous patient they put you at ease. I have always had problems with becoming numb enough for dental procedures. Dr Schortmann is the only Dentist who has been able to overcome this issue and make my dental experiences painless and anxiety free. On top of this, he is an extremely generous and kind human and does a lot of charitable work for those less fortunate. I really admire him and I hope that he decides to keep practicing for a very long time, because I don't want to see any other Dentists!!! :-)

Dr Peter is a consummate professional, in all aspects personable caring guy who I would send any of my friends to or family I was lucky to find him. You're a lifesaver,your staff is awesome also.Everybody is so nice and considerate quick service very little waiting,this man knows how to schedule appointments. Steve

BEST DENTIST EVER. He helped me 20 years ago. Went to another dentist recently and ugh. Disaster. Went back to Dr Schortmann. It was like visiting an old friend. Definitely a joy to go to the office. Thank you so much. My mouth thanks you too.

I found this Dr. Online after getting some estimates for dentures.. Mr. Schortmann is reasonably priced and to my great relief does OUTSTANDING work and is fast!!! I've rated him 5 stars with no hesitation.. It's worth the drive to Sandwich MA for sure!!!
