Following graduation from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Dr. Schiffman began a one year General Pratice Dental Residency Program at a hospital in Queens, New York. The next year, he was selected to participate in the three year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Training Program at Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center-Albert Einstein College of Medicine. After serving as Chief Resident during his senior year, he went on to become a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and a member of the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He holds additional certifications from the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology and The American Association of Special Care Dentistry in HospitaI Dentistry. In 1998, he became Director of both the General Practice Residency Dental Training Program and the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Peninsula Hospital Center, and was later elected President of the Medical Board.
After growing up in Hewlett, New York, and graduating from G.W. Hewlett High School in 2003, Dr. Schiffman received a B.S. in Finance from the Binghamton University School of Management. Hethen went on to earn his D.M.D. degree at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts.Upon graduation from dental school, Michael was accepted into the 6 year M.D. integrated Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City and received his M.D. degree from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. In his final year of training, Michael served as Chief Resident of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Service, and was responsible for providing care and supervising the resident staff at The Mount Sinai Hospital, Elmhurst Hospital Center, the Bronx V.A. Hospital, and Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. He went on to become a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Schiffmanpractices the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery procedures including orthognathic surgery, general anesthesia and IV sedation, dental implants and bone grafting, management of oral pathology, cosmetic procedures, repair of oral-facial trauma, as well as traditional dentoalveolar surgery. He serves on the teaching staff of The Mount Sinai Hospital, where he has admitting privileges for patients requiring hospitalization or operating room procedures.
Youve probably heard of an oral surgeon before, but the full name our specialty is actually oral and maxillofacial surgery. While dentists and periodontists can and often do perform minor oral surgery, they are not oral surgeons.
Following dental school, an oral surgeon completes a minimum of four to six additional years of surgical training in a hospital-based residency program. This intense training sets oral surgeons apart from their dental colleagues and makes them the most highly trained surgical specialists of the dental field.

Dr. Shiffman was kind, reassuring and explained everything he was going to do during a tooth extraction. He answered questions and gave me understandable instructions for aftercare. His staff was friendly, efficient and professional. The office is run to keep Covid at bay as much as humanly possible. I would recommend this practice to anyone in need of an oral surgeon.

I am not one who enjoys the dentist. Dr. Schiffman's office made my wisdom tooth removal quick and painless. I would take a tooth removal by Dr. Schiffman's office over a visit to my regular dentist.

I was able to get an appointment the same day I called. That was a real relief considering I was in pain. The staff and doctor were very welcoming and professional. The procedure was totally explained to me as well as post care. The whole experience was extremely pleasant. There was very little waiting in the waiting room and the follow up visit was equally as professional.

At 71 years of age, I have been to many, many Dentists and Oral Surgeons. Dr. Len Schiffman, is extremely competent, warm and caring. That tone applies to his office staff as well. I can't say enough good about Schiffman Oral Surgery and I recommend this practice without reservation.

I was in so much pain from my impacted wisdom teeth that needed to be taken out. The team was very accommodating and got me in to see Dr. Michael Schiffman as soon as possible. Dr. Schiffman was so great and really took his time explaining everything. He made me feel comfortable and cared for and so did the rest of his team. After my surgery Dr. Schiffman even followed up with me to see how I was doing, which I really appreciated. I was super nervous about this and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. This office is doing amazing work and genuinely cares for their patients.

Dr. Schiffman performed a complex extraction and bone graph on me. The outcome was excellent. As I suffer from adult-onset acute claustrophobia and anxiety, his services included sedation which enabled me to have the procedure in an entirely stress-free peaceful environment. To my surprise and delight, the recovery was pain-free and without incident. The follow-up care was also excellent. Dr. Schiffman's staff was at all times courteous, considerate, and professional. I travel a distance to get to his offices, but it was well worth it. Dr. Schiffman's personality, knowledge, patient-friendly approach and skills as an oral surgeon proved to be outstanding. For all of these reasons, I would recommend his services without reservation!

I went to the younger Dr. Schiffman for a bone graft and implant. Dr. Schiffman and his staff were absolutely fantastic and did an amazing job. My recovery went exactly as they said it would and the surgery was a great success. I Highly recommend Dr. Schiff man and his team.

I went to Dr Shiffman for an extraction.The office staff took care of all the paperwork. They were friendly and me feel very comfortable. During the consultation Dr Shiffman explained everything that would happen. He took his time explaining and answered my questions. He put me at ease. He discussed what he saw on the xrays. He made me feel comfortable about the procedure. Extraction and bone graft)The front desk explained the fees and how much it will cost me out of pocket before i left the office. The day i went for the procedure i was very nervous but as soon as i sat in the dentist chair i was put ar ease byvtge dental hygenist. Dr Shiffman explained what he was going to do step by step again and made me feel comfortable. When it was over i felt good. That night i got a call from Dr Shiffman to see how i was and he asked me if i have any concerns and to let me know that i could always call the office if needed. I went back for two follow up visits. Will go back in October after bone graft completely heals and hopefully wotk towards an implant. Thank you Dr Shiffman
