A Glen Ellyn native, Dr. Colleen Scheive attended Glenbard South High School. She studied abroad in Italy in college and received her undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois. Colleen earned her Doctor of Medical Dentistry degree from Temple Universitys Kornberg School of Dentistry in Philadelphia and was part of a mission trip to Haiti, where she provided necessary dental treatment to residents there.

In April 2016, she took a life-changing course in Invisalign and was asked to become a president and mentor to her class of 30 doctors. Together, they have traveled together throughout North America for further training and comradery. They now have a group of over 900 dentists that are creating a very exciting and different group in dentistry.

This group has taken over the American Academy of Clear Aligners and strives to turn the dental world up-side down with care and kindness. Dr. Scheive values education and is constantly taking continuing education and many other advanced courses each year to enhance her skills to better serve the dental care needs of her patients and provide them with a gentle and comfortable dental experience.

Dr. Scheive loves astronomy, theoretical astrophysics and is a big fan of Neil deGrasse Tyson and Cecelia Paine. She loves watching nature shows with her 5-year-old daughter, Ellie, who is also the art coordinator at Colleens office. Dr. Scheive is very close to her immediate family who resides in Chicago and they love spending time together, watching sports and rooting on the Blackhawks!

For ultimate camouflage, tray or aligner systems render a modern straightening method. Designed with sophisticated software and 3D digital models of your teeth, a series of clear plastic trays produce the straightening results. Medical-grade plastic without wires, metal, springs, or rubber bands gently moves your teeth into place. Gradual pressure on specific teeth with each aligner means less discomfort and shortened treatment times, in many cases. Your provider dispenses several sets of aligners at a time, allowing you to change to a new one at home every two weeks.

Removable trays can be set aside for short periods allowing normal eating and cleaning. Enjoying an apple without the intrusion of brackets and wires works well for many patients. And the smooth plastic surface offers a comfort level to the tongue and cheeks unequaled by other forms of straightening.

A system that can be taken out and set aside may be forgotten. Committing to consistent wear, at least 22 hours each day, helps ensure the success of your treatment. While clear aligners work extremely well for adults, a responsible teen can be a candidate too. And adults of every age have discovered the perks of straight teeth with aligners.

While aligner treatment works for 90% of straightening cases, some tooth movements may not be possible. Or you may simply prefer the security of fixed braces. More choices than ever exist for many procedures in dentistry allowing customized care for your situation. Dr. Scheive can help you discover the path to a straighter smile.

You may discuss adding whitening to your plan, removing years of yellow stain accumulation. In some cases, the beauty of porcelain lifts a straight smile to another level or may even offer an alternative to orthodontics. And you may be pleasantly surprised to find a flexible payment option or undiscovered insurance benefits that make treatment closer than you think.

A long-lasting choice, implant-supported dentistry brings you as close to growing new teeth as possible. Expertly placed in the same bone that once supported teeth, you'll often enjoy the strength and function of nature. Modern porcelains produce a life-like result that may leave you completely unaware that they aren't your natural teeth. An excellent choice for one or more missing teeth, dentures can also be attached to implants. The stability and sense of confidence you develop with implants will leave you pleasantly surprised.

A custom road map for your return to full dental function when incorporating implants must guide the way. Dr. Scheive calls upon the best technology available to help plan your restorative case. Digital x-rays, 3D mapping, models, photographs and case guides prove valuable. Dr. Scheive uses highly regarded specialists as needed to bring the components of your case together. But at all times, she serves as the quarterback of the entire plan.

Many patients find the procedure of implant placement easier than they anticipated. Various types of sedation may fit your comfort level best, so feel free to discuss them with Dr. Scheive. Modern dental anesthetic numbs the site, and experienced hands carefully place the implant. A tiny guide hole provides a path for threading a small implant cylinder into place. The sterile piece settles into a precise location, and a smooth cover protects the implant during the healing period.

In some cases, a temporary or permanent crown may be inserted at the time of surgery. Cases involving multiple implants often proceed the same way, with more temporary options available so you can smile confidently immediately.

Implants can't withstand normal bite forces until the bone has attached firmly to the delicate surface. Dr. Scheive will help you decide what will work best during the initial healing period, and ensure you're still able to function while protecting your implants. This period usually lasts from 3-6 months as implants integrate into your jaw. Most patients experience minimal discomfort after placement, especially compared to tooth removal procedures.

Even with all the benefits, the cost of dental implant procedures is an important consideration. When your case brings together the latest imaging, advanced training, and unique material technologies, this service offers one of the best values in modern health care. Compared to the replacement of other hard structures and joints of the body, most services with dental implants can be done at a small fraction of those costs. Better yet, most patients carry on with normal activities right away and usually enjoy a lifetime of normal chewing, bite stability, and appearance. But we know the cost of dental implants is an important part of creating a complete plan that works for you.

The cost of dental implant services involves several critical factors unique to each patient. A fee quoted without careful evaluation doesn't consider what's best for your mouth. And comparisons may not account for the difference in the quality of materials used, along with the training of the doctor performing this highly technical service. Dr. Scheive customizes treatment planning after he has spent time analyzing what would be best for each one.

One thing remains absolutely certain: You'll get the highest value possible in modern implant dentistry. That means years of natural function and a smile that's secure and makes you proud to show. We look forward to discussing how we can partner together for the best solution for you!

Smiles matter, probably more than we realize. Volumes of research confirm the influential role of smiles on our relationships and our self-esteem. If you're confident, you smile more. If you smile more, you feel more confident. But what if you don't want to flash your smile because you're embarrassed by bad teeth? It becomes a psychological short-circuit, with effects that may ripple through your life. Fortunately, a growing range of options opens doors for anyone to enjoy a stunning new smile. And Dr. Scheive's passion for enhancing smiles brings you the best in modern dentistry.

Veneers provide an artist's touch to your smile. Custom-crafted, these ultra-thin porcelain creations work in magical ways. Regardless of your vision for your smile, chances are veneers offer an answer. When today's modern materials meet our passion for cosmetic excellence, you'll be amazed at what you see smiling back at you in the mirror.

Cavities, chips, and fractures occur on any tooth surface throughout the mouth. Composite filling material provides a versatile solution to many common problems. Blended into a prepared area, the composite polishes to a smooth, undetectable surface.

Nothing boosts your confidence like a terrific smile. But when yellow stain dims the brilliance, it's time to give it a lift. Professional whitening systems provide the ultimate in whitening results, quickly removing years of discoloration with quality controlled materials.

Damaged teeth might seem hopeless, but there's often still a solid foundation that leaves you with options. A crown, or cap, can bring a compromised tooth back to full function. And with modern porcelains, you'll probably have a difficult time trying to find where the crown ends and the tooth starts.

Teeth rarely fracture in a perfectly predictable way. Sometimes a break is too big for a filling, but not big enough for a crown. Porcelain onlays provide an excellent solution for teeth that need extra reinforcement without being covered entirely. Bonded into a place, they provide years of natural feel, function, and esthetics.

Your gums form a flowing framework around your teeth providing support and esthetic value. Sometimes a little gentle recontouring of the gum line bring a nice boost to your smile. Plus, properly shaped gums contribute to a healthy environment that supports your overall dental health.
