Carol G. Schaffer, DMD, has been practicing general dentistry since 1981, and has been in practice in the High Country of North Carolina since 1987. She is a 1981 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine. She completed a General Practice Residency at The University of Pennsylvania in 1982.
Dr. Schaffer treats adult patients (over 16) and is currently accepting new patients in her office in Sloop Medical Plaza in Linville beside Cannon Memorial Hospital. She provides a variety of services including, fillings, crowns, bridges, implant restorations, partials, dentures, bleaching, and cosmetic procedures. She routinely completes more than 20 hours of continuing education annually and provides dental services and up to date procedures in a most pleasant environment. Her hygienist and staff are often complimented on their professionalism and courtesy.
Dr. Schaffer has been very involved in the community and currently is a member of both the Avery County Chamber of Commerce and the Banner Elk Chamber of Commerce. She enjoys visiting nursing homes with her therapy dog, Miley. Other free time activities include tennis, majong, word games and enjoying here time at home in Banner Elk with her two rescue dogs.
Dr. Schaffer was honored by The High Country Caregiver Foundation at a reception titled 'Celebrating Caregiving and Caring People'. Carol has made a significant impact on the success of the HCCF and its ability to help local family caregivers.
Kim Blackburn is an amazing Hygienist. She has worked with Dr. Schaffer for many years. Kim has 3 grown children and also owns Sandees Cafe in Newland. We are thrilled that she is part of our team. Kim enjoys spending her free time travelling and with family.
Jillian Tenge is a certified dental assistant and mother of a first grader. She and Dr. Schaffer have worked together for several years. She is Dr Schaffer's primary assistant and is also able to work in the reception area of our office. We are delighted to have her with us.
Pam Watson is our office manager. She brings more than 18 years of experience in the dental field. She is the proud mother of three grown children and loves nothing better than time with her close-knit family.
Jessica has rejoined our practice. Many of our patients remember her well and we are so glad to have her back. She loves spending time with her family and we have watched her beautiful daughters grow up. She has many years of experience and is a great asset to our team.

Dr. Nik was confident in his ability to correct my broken front tooth. Hard candy from Halloween party...you can't tell that there was anything amiss and now there isn't! The dental assistants we're by my side during the entirety, which was very comforting. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I recently had my first visit with Dr. Schaffer..it was the best and most thourough exam that I have ever experienced. Her entire staff was a breath of fresh air, so friendly and accomadating. Kim the dental hygenist was exceptional. For years I had heard that it was the best around, just sorry it took me so long to get there.

Professional and a very Caring dentist. Took me aside and asked me personally about my son who was obviously having a very bad day the first time I brought him in. I have 28 years of experience in this field.I can spot a lot just by observation things that your average person would not even notice, and note if a dentist was more on the conservative side as far as treatment plans go. I was very impressed with the dentist and staff. I was also impressed when I went to this office for myself before I brought my son. Unfortunately they currently do not take my insurance and I needed more work done, so I was unable to go back for that. My son has qualified for Medicare but I will still take him and pay cash for his 6 month check ups here.

I dont write many reviews but I absolutely had to do so after the experience I've had with Dr. Schaffer. I came to their office off a google search, new to the area, not knowing where to go. I was hurting fairly significantly and Dr. Schaffer and her staff whisked me right in. The took care of the issue and did so with genuine concern and kindness. They followed up like most, but Dr. Schaffer also called to check in on me herself. They referred me to another great group for further treatment, took me back again to finish the work they started, and did so with the utmost professionalism but with great compassion. I was beyond impressed. They fixed me, checked on me frequently, adapted to my schedule,and never broke stride or smile. I never liked going to the dentist till I knew them! I cant recommend them enough and have to say THANK YOU to Dr. Schaffer and her whole team. Truly the best dental experience I have ever had.
