Dr. Schmieder was born and raised in St. Louis. He attended Truman State University for his undergraduate degree then went on to receive his Doctorate of Dental Medicine in 2001 from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. Upon completion of his dental training he joined the Department of Health and Human Services in the Indian Health Service and spent two years living and working on a remote Indian reservation in Northern Arizona.
Dr. Schmieder was awarded the Quintessence Award for Excellence in Restorative Dentistry from SIUE School of Dental Medicine as well as the Excellence in Dentistry Award. He is a past President of the Mineral Area Study Club.

Dr. Joe obtained his bachelor of Science from Truman State University in 1996, he graduated from Southern Illinois University- Edwardsville, school of dental medicine in 2001. Dr. Schmieder then joined the Department of Health and Human Services' Indian Health Service and lived and worked on an indian reservation in a remote region of Northeastern Arizona. He spent 2 years in public health service, after which he returned to his hometown in Missouri. He has been in private practice since 2003. Dr. Joe and his family live in Jefferson County and are involved in multiple service organizations in the community.

I've been going here for a few years now so I guess you can say I've been loyal for a few years. Their dental work is sub-par at best... I have had to go back 3 different times after the Dr. has done fillings because the filling wasn't done correctly / drilled down enough and I could feel it when I bite. Usually every time I go, I get there 15 minutes before my scheduled time (like they want you too) & I also take time out of my day to receive their text messages to confirm my appointments the day before. With all that being said, the past year has been terrible. Every-time I go there it's a 30+ minute wait AFTER your scheduled time. This has happened to me 3 times in a row now & the last and final time (which was a few weeks ago) I got up and walked out. They want you to respect their time and confirm messages and be early but they DO NOT respect your time or your family's time. 0/10 do not recommend, nor will I ever be back.

Staff was nice but I'm not interested in waiting an hour past my appointment time before being seen. Happened on back to back appointments. No thanks. My advise to them would be to respect others time as if it were their time. No other line of work is it acceptable to be an hour late

I had to find a new dental office due to new insurance and I'm so glad I found Dr.Schneider, who is also extremely close to home. Luckily, I got in just in time to "save" my teeth due to cavities and I'm SO relieved I didn't need any extended work! While working, he was constantly checking to see if I was doing okay and kept walking me through the next steps. Love that about him!!

Updated Review: Pay cash for all my dental work same day I had it done. Over a year later I get call from collections Saying that I owed them money and I hadn't paid call ask about it and they don't call me back still hurt my credit score very disappointed . Old review: Hands down the best Dentist Office around! Friendly staff and Joesph is amazing!!!

My experience with Scenic Drive Dental has always been a pleasant one from the beginning! I struggled for years to find an honest dentist to take care of my needs. Just to put things into a better perspective, the previous dentist I went to said I had 6 cavities (when I felt nothing and could not see them) and then once I went to Dr.Schmieder, he said I had none at all! Office has friendly staff, it's always clean. Easy to get into the office. Love the text message reminders!

We love everyone in this office! They are always going over and beyond for their patients. All 3 of my kids have been going here for years and I have never been so happy with the care my kids get. I will continue to recommend them for kids and adults of all ages! Thank you for all you do for my family!!

Dr. Joe and the hygienists are all incredibly kind and do a great job. Unfortunately I consistently had to wait quite a while after arriving for my appointment, even with often having one of the first appointments of the day (8am). I understand if it were just a few minutes, or maybe once they were behind and I would have to wait a long time. However, it seemed like every 6 months I would come in for my cleaning and each time I would wait 30+ minutes to be called back to the chair. I'm not able to block off 1.5 - 2 hours of my day for a routine cleaning. The receptionist is also not entirely friendly when dealing with her on the phone. I would have liked to stay with Dr. Joe, but had to switch dentists.

I had an appointment last week and it was my first time out since the pandemic. I was anxious about the exposure, but was so thrilled to see they had done everything possible to make my visit safe for their patients and themselves.
