I was born in Reading, Pennsylvania, and my family moved to Tennessee right before my freshman year of high school at Collegedale Academy. I earned my BA in Biology at Southern Adventist University and attended dental school and orthodontic residency at Loma Linda University in California.
And now my wife, Jordan, and I are so happy to call Chattanooga home again! We love going to the aquarium with our children, Jack and Aria, and enjoying all the outdoor activities around town. It really is the perfect place to raise a family.
Working in a profession where I can serve others and make a positive difference in their life has always been important to me. My father is a general dentist, and I was able to see how he accomplished this in his career.
Growing up, I was a kid who actually wanted braces, so I was extremely disappointed when I was told I didnt need them! But because all my siblings did, I ended up spending a lot of time in the orthodontists office anyway and noticed what a fun, positive environment it was. At that age, I thought being an orthodontist would be a cool job. And once I graduated from dental school and began working as a general dentist, it became clear to me that what I enjoyed most in dentistry centered around orthodontics. So I went back to school to make that cool job become a reality.
I honestly think being an orthodontist is the best job in the world. It is extremely rewarding to be a part of someones journey in improving their smile and self-confidence. I love the relationships I can build with my patients and the chance to be a positive part of their day. Orthodontics is a space where I feel I can use my time, skills, and talents to positively affect the lives around me, and I love being a part of that process at SCO.
I am so fortunate to be an orthodontist. It really is the best job in the world. I get to work with a great team and everyday we create beautiful smiles for the nicest peopleour patients. The process that we go through together, and the results we achieve, makes it difficult to say goodbye when treatment is complete. It is truly a joy to provide beautiful smiles and see my patients grow and succeed in so many ways.
I am originally from Canada, born and raised just outside Toronto, Ontario. At 17, I moved down to the Chattanooga area to attend college. It was here where I fell in love with the mountains, rivers and also my future wife, Stacey.
After spending seven years in Birmingham, Alabama, for dental school and orthodontic residency, Stacey and I were thrilled to return home to Chattanooga! (We also brought back a couple of souvenirs our children Ben and Katie Bethand have since added another, Will!)
When Im not enhancing the views of my patients, I enjoy fly fishing, camping and hiking, water and motor sports and generally just spending time outdoors, taking in all that this Scenic City has to offer!
While earning my degrees in dentistry and orthodontics, I was the recipient of several awards recognizing my commitment to excellence in the field in both academics and research. And now I take 50 hours of CE credits every two years to stay current with the scientific and technological changes occurring in the specialty of orthodontics.
Dr. Jennifer was born in McAllen, Texas, and moved to a small town in Georgia at the age of 13. She remained in Georgia through undergraduate school as well as earning her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the Dental College of Georgia. She completed her Orthodontic certification and Masters degree back in her home state of Texas. She is happy to now call Chattanooga her home. She loves to cuddle up with her two miniature schnauzers or explore the Scenic City for its best slice of pizza with her husband, Wes.

During our My Teacher Rocks campaign, SCO is excited to partner with Rock Point Church and the Junior League of Chattanooga by collecting school supplies for East Lake and Hardy Elementary schools. Teachers often sacrifice so much to ensure that the children of our community are equipped to learn and we want to help where we can! These schools greatest needs now are art supplies: markers, crayons, glue, etc.

This was the best experience I could have asked for. I had a gap the size of Texas and across by it so needless to say I definitely need a braces. I chose Invisalign. I love the experience, but the people at this location really made the whole experience for me. The doctor was amazing and the whole staff are the nicest people you'll ever meet. They also offer payment plans which was super helpful and they don't charge you interest.

There are literally no words to describe how AMAZING Dr. Prentice and his team are! From the first day we walked into their clinic, they were nothing but kind and welcoming. They walked us through the clinic, showed us around, and explained everything throughout my children's time there! They have transformed my daughters smile and I am BLOWN AWAY at the end result of her teeth! I can't wait to see my sons smiles when they are done with their braces journey! Highly highly recommend!

So upset with these people and drove 25 minutes. I took off work for them to tell me we don't take your insurance!!! They should of called on the phone before the apointment to say so. I did talk to a person to make sure they let the mom go back and to make sure the take her insurance!!

Confidence Restored. This was this best experience I have ever had with an orthodontist. From the first day I walked into SCO I was greeted with a smile and my own personal plan was laid out for me. Each visit was pleasant and I always left the office feeling closer to my goal. Today I walked out in a celebration . I could not be happier with Tyler and his staff. They are % the best around!

Couldn't recommend Scenic City Orthodontics more! The staff is very kind and attentive and Dr. Prentice is just amazing! Great professionals and even better persons. The office is really nice and they take great Covid-19 measurements, it makes me feel super safe. My Daughter had a Great experience with her treatment here!

They were very professional I never had a long wait time when I had an appointment. If I had any issues with my braces they always did their best to accommodate and work with me around my schedule. Overall I would recommend Dr. Prentice and his staff to anyone in need of braces. The staff were very friendly and courteous people. So my experience was very pleasant and I would like to reiterate how pleased I am with the results that I got from dealing with Scenic City Orthodontists. Thanks again for taking care of me and showing how a business can operate in a proper and efficient manner.

Top tier!!!! The ENTIRE scenic city staff is the epitome of phenomenal. They not only deliver great smiles they also don't mind sharing a spiritual word or two. It always felt like home!!! I hated to get my braces off today bc that almost meant our relationship was over. The team at Scenic City orthodontist has been exceptional throughout my daughter's entire process for braces. They walked us through each of the steps and answered any questions or concerns that we had. They were very kind, compassionate and always gentle. My daughter has a beautiful smile because of them and we are so grateful and appreciative for all that they have done. I highly recommend this orthodontist for children and adolescents definitely.

We love Dr Prentice and his staff!! They are all so kind and helpful!! I am a dental hygienist and have been working in the dental field for over 20 years!! I have seen what good orthodontics can do for a person. I have also seen what bad orthodontics does to a person both functionally and aesthetically. I came to know Dr Prentice for his out-reach in the community, which I was very impressed with. Once I saw how great his work was, it was a done deal--I was sending my son to him. He uses the Damon system, which is one of the best bracket systems. Because he uses the Damon bracket, you won't be in braces for years and years. He does fantastic work and goes above and beyond. He even did some contouring to help make my son's chipped front tooth look better. Chattanooga is so lucky to have such a great orthodontist and person in our community. He also does a lot of fun things that make the frequent visits enjoyable. His staff are all so friendly and great to work with too! It's pretty rare to find a dentist that mixes great dentistry with good business practices and Dr Prentice does it so well!! You will not regret choosing Scenic City Orthodontics.

If I could turn up the stars to 11 for Dr. Prentice, I would still give him 12! He is an amazing Orthodontist. Not only did my two sons get their braces with Dr. Prentice, but, after 40 years of being ashamed of my smile I decided to get braces too. It was offered to me to do the invisalign method, but I knew without having affixed braces I would not have followed through and ended up with the amazing end result that I enjoy now. I had my braces for 2 years, each appointment, every detail of the process was outlined with me, each visit I was treated like family, and I always left knowing exactly where I was. Covid slowed things down, but that was way outside of Dr. Prentice's control. I left the office yesterday after having my braces removed, I did not look in the mirror, turned on my car and was about to leave, when I glanced in my rear view mirror and nearly cried. I didn't recognize the smile that was smiling back at me. I never thought I would be proud of my smile. I had seen what he did for my boys, but I never thought mine would be so ... Well, beautiful. Thank You Dr. Prentice. Thank you for your consistent exceptional customer service, thank you for your skill, and thank you for giving me a smile to be proud of!

We LOVE Scenic City Orthodontics! This is our second round of braces (second child) and we couldn't be happier. We love the friendly staff, tasty treats and welcoming environment! Dr. Prentice and his entire staff are super knowledgeable and work to make sure all questions are answered. Highly recommend!!
