I grew up in Sioux City, Iowa. I went to Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska for my undergraduate degree followed by the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics in Iowa City. I am a member of the American Dental Association.
I enjoy long walks with my wife Sarah and our 2 dogs (a Golden Retriever named Buike (Boo-key) and a German Shepherd named Belle), being at the lakes, spending time with friends and family and I am an avid University of Kansas Jayhawks fan.
I grew up in Fargo and graduated from Fargo South High School and Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. I then went on to the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. I feel very fortunate to be back in Fargo providing general and cosmetic dentistry services and working with such a wonderful team.
I am a member of the American Dental Association, North Dakota Dental Association, am in a SPEAR Study Club, volunteer for the Red River Dental Access Project, serve on the Minnesota State Community and Technical College Hygiene Program Advisory Board and am a former President of the Southeast District Dental Society.
After 40 years of providing dental care in the Fargo, Moorhead and West Fargo area, Dr. Marvin Ugland decided it was time to retire. He sold his practice to Dr. James Johnson to continue the tradition of high-quality dentistry. Then in January of 2018, Dr. Johnson helped fellow dentist Dr. James Colbert begin his journey to retirement. With that, Fargo Family Dentistry became Saving Smiles Dentistry, and our team grew! In June of 2019, Saving Smiles Dentistry welcomed Dr. Kenneth Bartholomew to the practice as an associate. Then in late 2021, Dr. Kenny became a partner in Saving Smiles Dentistry with Dr. Johnson.
We believe in creating a relaxing environment in our practice. Our office features many amenities to keep our patients as comfortable as possible. Our team loves to interact with all our patients, and help them understand their dental health and answer any questions they have.

We recently moved to town and needed to get the family in for cleanings. I looked at reviews and called around. I contacted Saving Smiles and was able to get us all scheduled for the same time and day and they could us in that same week! The staff was wonderful and made my kids feel comfortable. My 6 year old had some work done and was a trooper. They even sent a text to check in on her! I'm really glad we found Saving Smiles!

The people who work here are incredible. I have a lot of major teeth problems and have been terrified of dentists for years, but coming here everyone is so nice and understanding and zero judgement at all! They understand what I am looking for and are very open to working with the budget I have. I had 3 extractions yesterday and the dentist working with me made sure to check the areas to make sure they were completely numb before taking them out. I plan on sticking with them until I can get my smile back. 10/10 recommend then to anyone!!

Decided to check out a new dentist and will definitely be going back! Brittney was great! So thorough, and gentle, and polite. Dr Kenny was great too! Nice new facility, clean and up with the technology in instruments! Definitely recommend!!

Had my first cleaning in years today and I'm not going to lie I was terrified. Growing up I did not have good dental experiences. I decided it was time. My cleaning went so well and I felt comfortable the whole time. My hygienist walked me through every step. The best part was the flexibility with my schedule as I work in an Orthodontist office. I look forward to seeing their new location! Plus, the first time patient goody bag was so cool! Thanks to them, I am a little less scared to go back!

I took my daughter here for her first dentist appointment today and they were all AMAZING and friendly! Walked us through every step. Ally and Dr. Johnson made her feel super at ease. The front desk personnel were also very friendly, personable and helpful. Highly recommend!!
