Alabama Medicaid is a program that pays for routine dental care for the children of Alabama under the age of 21 years, as long as the child is eligible for full Medicaid. Most children are no longer eligible after their 19th birthday unless they qualify for another category. Adults age 21 and older are not eligible for dental coverage through Medicaid.

More than a million Alabama residents each year qualify for full or partial Medicaid coverage. To qualify for Alabama Medicaid, applicants must meet and provide proof of income, meet age requirements, fill out forms correctly and turn in a completed application to the correct office or worker.

Alabama Medicaid dental services must be provided by or under the supervision of licensed dentists enrolled as Medicaid dental providers. Routine procedures involving the teeth covered* by Medicaid include:

  • Limited outpatient and inpatient hospitalization coverage for adults with dental problems exacerbating medical conditions (the dental procedures themselves are not covered, only facility and anesthesia services)
  • Orthodontic services considered medically necessary for children with cleft lip/palate and/or other severe facial and cranial abnormalities, and who are served through Childrens Rehabilitation Services
  • ALL Kids is a low-cost health care coverage program for children under age of 19 years. Benefits include regular checkups and immunizations, sick child doctor visits, prescriptions, vision and dental care, hospitalization, mental health and substance abuse services, and much more.

ALL Kids uses Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama (BCBSAL) to provide services through their preferred provider network. If your child is approved, coverage will begin on the first day of the month after the application is received.

Income eligibility determination can only be made when a complete application is received by ALL Kids. Please note, even if your income falls outside of the below guidelines, you may still be eligible for coverage the only way to know for sure is to apply.

  • The PPO network is a group of doctors, dentists, pharmacies, hospitals and outpatient facilities enrolled as BCBSAL providers to offer services to ALL Kids enrollees at special, prearranged rates. There is no deductible when you use a PPO provider. Some services may require a small copay.
  • A copay is a small fee you may have to pay up front when your child sees the providers. Depending on which coverage bracket your child qualifies for, some services may require a copay. Your copays are determined by the ALL Kids fee group your child is in. There are no copays for preventive services like regular check-ups, immunizations, dental cleanings and vision exams.
  • You can choose any doctor who is enrolled as a BCBSAL PPO provider. To find a preferred provider in Alabama, you can look in your ALL Kids Preferred Provider Directory, call the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama dedicated customer service number, 1.800.760.6851, or visit Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama.

What kind of facility doesn't allow a parent to go back with an under aged child? My children are 7 and 3. That is a scary experience for a child and what are you trying to hide? Then on top of that right when my call was answered the lady was rude and acted like she could care less. Take your children somewhere else.

Couldn't even schedule an appointment because the second lady at the front desk had a nasty attitude and obviously wanted me to do her job for her.

It's 2:30 pm. I drove an hour to get here. Today is not a holiday. The hours on the door says they should be open. Online, it says they should be open. I called before I came. The hours on the message also said THEY SHOULD BE OPEN..... No one is in there. The only sign on the door says "MASKS REQUIRED TO ENTER THANK YOU LUNCH 12PM-12:45PM"

From the front desk to the back of the house, the appt scheduling person those women are very rude with bad and nasty attitudes and this is not right at all! I miss the old employees from the old building! Out with the old in with the new this change was a bad decision! Anything considering emergency have to schedule appts months out, I see why a lot people left this practice the new management sucks! And sending 4 year olds to the back alone what a scary feeling my children will not be back at all!!! You can have an appt with multiple kids be ready to wait 3-4 hours children are very impatient, this practice has fell flat and I hate it! Hopefully new management will take over or shut it down!

I have taken my children here for about 12 years and it was always a good experience. But now something has changed and I wouldn't take my dog to these people!!! If you care about how you are treated, go somewhere else!

I was having pain for a few weeks with a tooth and finally broke down yesterday to have it seen about and possibly removed (it ended up being removed )I called around to a few place and ended up going with this one, the staff at Sarrell Dental really made me feel at ease about the whole situation. I have severe anxiety and with all the COVID-19 procedures in place my husband wasn't allowed to go to the back with me, the nurses were wonderful one even held my hand when she could tell I was uneasy. I would recommend them

(Translated by Google) My son has been treated here since his first dental checkups and I have always had excellent care from all of them, I totally agree with the security measures they are taking is for the benefit of my son (our children) but this time we did to our appointment, not without first mentioning that my son did not appear that you saw an appointment, since they themselves spoke to schedule, I arrived before 12:30 and the person who attended us told him we were leaving and he rolled his eyes at me very ugly she did not say anything offensive to me but if I felt quite uncomfortable this had never happened to me on her part I did not know it was time for them to go out to eat (Original) Mi hijo a sido tratado aqui desde sus primeros chequeos dentales y siempre he tenido excelente atencion por parte de todos ellos,yo total de acuerdo con las medidas de seguridad que estan tomando es por bien de mi hijo (nuestros ninos) pero esta vez que hacistimos a nuestra cita ,no sin antes mencionar que no aparecio mi hijo que tu viera cita ,cuanto que ellos mismo hablaron para agendar, yo llegue antes de las 12:30 y la persona que nos atendio le dije a lo ibamos y me reviro los ojos muy feo no me dijo nada ofensivo pero si la senti bastante incomoda nunca me habia pasado esto pepesimo de de su parte yo no sabia que era hora de que salian a comer

I understand that everyone is taking precautions with this Covid-19. I took my 14yr old son for an eye exam today. They checked our temps and had us go back to my truck and fill out paperwork. Ok that's understandable. But they REFUSED to allow me in because they don't consider him a minor. When they have a sign that clearly states only 1 parent per minor child. So because he can sign his name on a piece of paper at 14yrs old, they consider him grown. News flash.....he can sign all day but without my signature it's NOT a legal document. So I signed and they still refused. So they sent out I guess the office manager and said they had to follow the rules of the ADA. Excuse me that's for dental not vision. Then she proceeded to show me messages on her phone from other dentists. Again EYE EXAM!!!! At 14yrs old he can't even sign paperwork at school, get a job, get a license, join the military, vote, etc. So please tell me how my son is not considered a minor. I am his mother and I want to know what's going on with my child at ALL times. Vision, dental or anything else. Even hospitals consider a legal adult at age 19 not 14. Not only that we waited 2 hours for them just to take a look at his eyes with a machine. He got back in the truck and told me that's all they did. Exam hadn't even been done yet. I will NEVER take him back and they need to get a better system on how they see patients and also move faster. Appt was at 9:30 and at 11:30 still nothing. We left and I got better appts and guess what, I'm allowed to go back with him so the doctor can explain to me any issues that are going on.
