In 1960 Dr. Robert Thompson established the first Oral Surgery practice south of Tampa. He served on Staff at Sarasota Memorial Hospital and was one of the few founding fathers of the Florida Society of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery. Dr. Robert Thompson retired in 1989 and remained active in the community until his passing in 2011.
Dr. David A. Thompson followed in his fathers footsteps and joined the practice in 1989. He furthered his fathers reputation of delivering excellent and ethical care. Dr. Thompson served for two decades on staff at Sarasota Memorial Hospital and held numerous local and state leadership positions.
In 2010, Dr. Thompson invited Dr. Todd J. Reuter to return to his hometown and join the practice. Dr. Reuter brought unique training in advanced bone grafting, reconstruction, and dental implants as well as offering full scope oral and maxillofacial surgery. Dr. Reuter introduced state of the art technology into our practice to offer more precise treatment planning and more minimally invasive surgical options.
Dr. Thompson answered the call to serve his country in 2011 and served 4 years as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army. He was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas and was deployed to Afghanistan, caring for both our military and Afghan civilians. Dr. Thompson returned to Sarasota in 2015 and continues to serve the community.
Above all else, we strive to care for our patients like they are family. Compassion, ethics, advanced surgical training, and the most up to date technology and procedures allow us to provide exceptional oral and maxillofacial surgery and dental implants.

This practice was founded 60 years ago on a commitment to outstanding patient care with a personal touch. From our office design to treatment protocols, from a warm welcome when you arrive to our open door policy for our patients, we have developed a reputation for being open and accessible. The greatest challenge in this COVID-19 environment is the need to now balance this concierge experience with patient safety.
Our office follows infection control recommendations made by the American Dental Association (ADA), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). We closely follow these agencies and take immediate actions when indicated to ensure our infection control procedures meet and exceed these recommendations.
Dr. Todd J. Reuter is a native of Sarasota, FL and graduated from Sarasota High School. Desiring to be a Gator, Dr. Reuter attended the University of Florida for his undergraduate and graduate studies. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Zoology from the University of Florida in 2000. Dr. Reuter then continued at UF to obtain both Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) degrees. He is currently licensed to practice both medicine and dentistry in the state of Florida.
Dr. Reuter completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery, General Surgery, and Anesthesia training at University of Florida Shands Jacksonville. Having a passion for research and education, he received numerous awards for service, education, and research at academic centers and at scientific meetings. He has authored research in facial trauma, pathology, and reconstruction and is a contributing author for a resident textbook.
Dr. Reuter holds leadership positions in state and national organizations. Locally, he serves as the Section Chief of oral and maxillofacial surgery at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Dr. Reuter has always enjoyed the unique multispecialty management of cleft lip and palate patients. He is proud to care for these special patients as a member of the Sarasota Cleft Lip and Palate Team.
Dr. Reuter was honored to return to his hometown to practice oral and maxillofacial surgery. When he was young, he was a patient of Dr. Thompson and has always remembered his caring and gentle approach. Because Dr. Reuter and Dr. Thompson share the same philosophy in patient care, Dr. Thompson chose Dr. Reuter to take over the care of his patients so he could serve in the United States Army.
Dr. Reuter is supported by his wife Elena, and three children. He enjoys spending his time with family and friends enjoying many hobbies including golf, scuba diving, fishing, and biking. Dr. Reuter and his wife are proud members of the Sarasota community and support many local schools and charities.
Dr. Scott C. Roemer was born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin. He attended undergrad at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, where he majored in biology and minored in chemistry. After he completed undergrad, Dr. Roemer moved to Philadelphia to attend dental school at the University of Pennsylvania; here, he graduated at the top of his class summa cum laude and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon national honors society and earned his doctor of dental medicine degree (DMD). After he finished dental school Dr. Roemer continued his education and joined the gator nation to earn his medical degree (MD) from the University of Florida.
Dr. Roemer completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the University of Florida Jacksonville where he received extensive training and certifications in anesthesia, general surgery, and learned the newest skills and techniques in bone grafting, implants, soft tissue grafting, pathology, reconstruction, and minimally invasive TMJ management. Dr. Roemer is both a licensed dentist (DMD) and physician (MD) in the state of Florida as well as is board certified and a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery the pinnacle distinction in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Roemer has been practicing in Sarasota and Venice since completing his training. Coincidentally, Drs. Roemer and Reuter have known each other since 2012 having completed their training at the same residency. Given their shared values and philosophy on patient care, Drs. Reuter and Thompson personally selected Dr. Roemer to join the practice.
Dr. Roemer lives in Sarasota with his wife Christina and their two dogs Tucker and Macee. They are happy to be joining his family in the area and are proud to be a part of the Sarasota community. Outside of oral surgery Dr. Roemer enjoys fishing, golfing, tennis, supporting the Gators, spending time with his family and friends around the pool, and exploring all the different restaurants that Sarasota has to offer.

I am so glad that I found Dr. Roemer and his staff. I had a wisdom teeth infection, my whole face was swollen. I called them on a Friday and by Monday I had a consultation appointment, and by Tuesday morning I had the surgery as well. The surgery went super smooth and quickly. I didn't feel any pain and the staff was very helpful. After 6 hours of my surgery I was able to talk again. I got all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed. I would like to thank Dr. Roemer and his staff again the professional job that they did!!!

I'll Start with the good. Seem to be a professional business with knowledgeable staff and good reviews. Bad news. Watch out for fees of services! Super expensive!! After finding out I had a serious problem and wanting to get the correct treatment I called and talked to the receptionist and booked an appointment for a consultation that I thought was going to cost $100 and give me the second opinion I was looking for. Seemed reasonable however next thing I knew I was whisked off to a room for a 45 second 3D scan and now my consultation turned into $375. I know they probably needed a bit more information but let's be reasonable! The price was not. Completely felt like someone stole $275 from me. The only thing I learned was an expensive lesson! I felt sick to my stomach when I left and I still have a toothache.

Excellent place, very professional, comfortable space. The staff was awesome, friendly and they did a great job of putting me at ease. They gave me a pamphlet with thorough information and the communication both between and during appointments was great. Very impressed by Dr. Reuter. Also impressed by the very little wait time.

My last two dental removals was done by gentle dental & aspen dental....if I woulda known they were terrible I wouldn't of went! This place tho in and out no extra waiting around 15 mins for a really bad tooth extraction 10/10 would recommend sarsota oral & implant surgery! The dr and the assistants knocked it outa the park with their bedside manners. And seriously any one reading this 10/10 recommended to go here I just don't give out these 5 stars they are earned

Recently moved from Philadelphia to Venice. I had a broken tooth, previous tooth and cap. It needed to be extracted, and I was very concerned, for it was causing a great deal of discomfort. After many many calls to what I perceived to be less than ethical dental offices, through the web I came upon this practice. The website was so well written and informative, I thought this is the dental office for me. I called the office on Saturday, expecting to just leave a number and then get a call back on Monday. I received a call back within 30 minutes, and was scheduled to be seen by Dr. Scott Roemer on Monday at 7:45 AM. From Audrey who chatted with me initially, to Dr. Roemer and the two medical technicians who were with me the entire time I was in the chair (which allow me to say, total time under an hour), I felt like I was the only one they had on their mind. During the afternoon, at home, I received a follow-up call from Ashley just to make sure I was okay; and, in the evening a personal call from Dr. Roemer himself. I was (and am) beyond impressed. Two other contacts have been initiated by the office to check up on me. I am a member of a hospital board in Philadelphia, so I have seen many medical practices at work - Sarasota Oral & Implant Surgery, and each member of the office is how a practice should operate - incredible! Let me also share that the cost was less than I expected. Seriously, if you have a dental issue, do not think twice about contracting this practice and ask be seen by Dr. Roemer.

Dr.Reuter and his staff are professional, courteous and respectful. Dr. Reuter came highly recommended and I was very impressed by the care that was provided by his support staff. He completed work on my dental implants and I was very grateful that he agreed to take my case. He is a highly skilled oral surgeon and made every effort to educate and explain the procedure, and worked to improve the outcome. I greatly appreciated that he took the time to offer individualized care and reassurance that made me feel confident about the outcome. Dr Todd Reuter is truly amazing...the best...had to have emergency surgery 3 teeth extracted...Dr Reuter did an amazing job...would highly recommend this facility and wonderful staff and Dr Reuter himself...still have some more work to go....but after this surgery not nearly as anxious as I was ...thank you all so much
