Traditional silver fillings are made of a gray metallic material called amalgam. Amalgam used to be the go-to filling material. Now, thanks to advancements in dentistry, we use tooth-colored composite resin fillings that blend in with your natural tooth shade.

Amalgam silver fillings most times shift and leak throughout their life span. This can create hairline fractures in the tooth, weakening the tooth structure, or form small gaps between the surface of the tooth and the edge of the filling, which may lead to decay. At Santa Teresa Smiles, we replace defective silver amalgam fillings with a more aesthetically-pleasing, biocompatible alternative, utilizing the Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique (SMART) put in place by the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology.

Dental professionals who remove amalgam fillings must complete an advanced course and become SMART certified before they can safely remove silver fillings. A graduate from the University of California San Francisco with honors, Dr. Oushy is a compassionate, kind, and artistic dentist who believes in whole body health care approach to dentistry. Dr. Oushy is a Certified Biological dentist with the IABDM and also just completed her accreditation with the IAOMT, she also holds a Masters in Public Health from New Mexico State University. Dr. Oushy is very passionate about taking continuing education courses to keep up with advancements in dentistry and also the important connection between our oral health and overall wellbeing, Dr.Oushy is always attending numerous continuing education courses in the field of Biological dentistry, laser therapy, Airway- centered dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, implant dentistry and Invisalign

Dr. Oushy is proudly the only dentist in El Paso and southern New Mexico to be SMART (Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique) certified by the IAOMT, Accredited as a Biological dentist by the IAOMT and certified with the IABDM. She always seeks the safest and least toxic ways to take care of her patients. When she is not with patients, Dr. Oushy is probably spending time with her husband and her twin daughters. She loves to cook, travel and do fun projects with her girls.

Vanessa stems from a family of dentists and has been in the field herself for almost 5 years. She is often the first face you see in our office as you walk in. Vanessa loves helping our patients feel welcomed and attend to any questions or concerns they have. Vanessa speaks English and Spanish fluently and would love to learn Mandarin one day.

She lives in El Paso with her husband and two beautiful children. When shes not in the office she is tending to her family. She loves to cook and cherishes the time spent helping her kiddos with their school projects. Her ultimate joy comes from seeing a smile on those around her.

Rikkie Jean has been in the dental field for nearly 10 years. She is amazing at helping our patients find dental wellness through our biological approach and her ability to help patients navigate through their dental benefits is such a gift. Rikkies ultimate joy is being able to help make dental wellness a reality for all of our patients.

Rikkie lives in El Paso with her husband and 5 growing boys! In her spare time, she enjoys being in the outdoors with family and friends, game nights, climbing the nearest 14ner, and catching up on her favorite podcasts whilst catering to her personal jungle at home.

Yvette has worked in the dental field for about 6 years. She enjoys working with patients and thrives for them to have a positive experience in the dental chair. She loves educating patients on oral health and its connection with their overall health and wellbeing. Yvette is extremely gentle and caring and all her patients always rave about how amazing their experience with her has been!

Arturo has been a Registered Dental Hygienist for over 10 years. He earned his Dental Hygiene degree at EPCC and also holds a Bachelor and Masters degree in Biology from UTEP. He then furthered his education by attending Boston University where he studied graduate coursework in oral health sciences. Arturo is passionate about airway dentistry and its role in sleep disordered breathing and whole health which led to his training in myofunctional therapy. He strongly believes that education is a key determinant of patient health.

Diana has been in the dental field for over 8 years and is passionate about her work, her patients, and providing the highest quality of care. She loves to make her patients feel comfortable and confident in the care she and Dr. Oushy are providing during dental treatment. Diana is proud of being born and raised in Colombia. In her spare time Diana likes to spend quality time with her family, read, and travel the world.

Cindy graduated from New Mexico State graduate, from the dental assistant program last year and is always eager to learn. She is very passionate about our biological, whole health approach to dentistry and enjoys talking to patients. Her goal is to make them feel greeted and always has patient comfort in mind to perform high quality care.
