Santa Monica Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was founded in 1975 and we are the oldest OMS practice in West Los Angeles. For over 40 years, our outpatient practice has resided in Santa Monica and our hospital privileges at Providence St. Johns Health Center. Over the years, it has been our pleasure to treat patients with issues ranging from pathology of the jaws with subsequent reconstructive surgery, temporomandibular joint disease, dentoalveolar surgery, and of course, orthognathic surgery.
Our founding partners were Drs. Rick Rutkowski and Bruce Sanders. A few years later Dr. John Given joined to make it a three surgeon practice. Together, they branded our practice, Santa Monica Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. In 1985, Dr. Ralph Buoncristiani joined, followed by Dr. Howard Park in 1999. In 2009, Dr. Richard Ting joined, followed by Dr. Gil Ivry in 2016. In July of 2018, Drs. Park, Ting and Ivry decided to add a fourth partner for the first time in the history of our practice, Dr. Jeffrey Tanner.
Today, we are known as Santa Monica Center for Oral Surgery and Dental Implants. Different brand, same level of exceptional care. We are committed to providing an exceedingly positive experience for our patients, community and fellow healthcare professionals that exhibits integrity, compassion, honesty and teamwork.
We are proud to serve residents from Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Brentwood, Westwood, Marina Del Rey, Playa Del Rey, Playa Vista, Westchester, Culver City, West Los Angeles, Venice, Century City and the San Fernando Valley.
We make every effort to stay on schedule and minimize your wait time. However, Santa Monica Center for Oral Surgery and Dental Implants provides many types of surgical services and various circumstances may lengthen the time allocated for a procedure. Emergency cases may also arise and cause delays. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

I need to extract the tooth because root was cracked and was infected. Dr. Ivry extract tooth quickly and without any pain. When I come home I had minimum swelling and almost no pain. Dr. Ivry did a great job. I highly recommend him to anyone who needs dental service.

Very bad experience so far. I didn't know my surgeon was the newest to the team and I have never had dental procedures fail until now. I've had a horrible infection for over a month, multiple surgeries at Santa Monica oral surgery and have been out of work for weeks. This has been an absolute nightmare. My stress and anxiety have put me into such a depression from all the pain. Post surgery no one ever checked in on me either time and I kept calling telling them something was wrong until I fainted due to the infection after a week of calling. They were very rude and said "we'll do you want to come in". I've had implants, root canals and never have had a problem. They don't seem to care and don't seem to have the knowledge to carry out the procedures and I felt like a Guinea pig. So much trauma and stress and the procedure failed. If you go here thoroughly investigate your doctor and don't blindly trust this surgery center. I hope the infection clears but it hasn't yet. Fingers crossed they haven't created permanent damage. Devastating!

I was incredibly nervous getting my wisdom teeth removed and had put my extraction off for a long time. When I finally came into the office, I was met with kind staff members that immediately put me at ease. Dr. Ivry explained the procedure to me prior and went through all the steps and what was to be expected after the procedure. The procedure was quick and I barely had any swelling, which just reinforces Dr. Ivry's expertise. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, which I never thought I would say about getting my wisdom teeth extracted.

I had my wisdom teeth removed here and it was a great experience! Dr. Tanner was great and the staff were all so friendly. I got all my questions answered, my nerves were soothed, and the whole process was smooth and easy. Would 10/10 recommend!

The Santa Monica Center for Oral Surgery has been such a great dental office to visit. This is our second visit and each time has been excellent. Usually everyone is nervous or anxious to have any dental work done. The office and exam rooms are elegant and make you feel at home. The technology used is far advanced which makes you feel more at ease! The staff is absolutely amazing. Anything I could compliment the staff on is such an understatement. Everyone here is so so so lovely. I 100% recommend this dental center to anyone!

I am a week into my post-wisdom teeth removal and I couldn't be happier with how it went! The actual surgery was quick and easy, the recovery was just as smooth! I had my first extraction done here and I couldn't have been more satisfied. All the assistants there are so friendly and they really helped me calm my nerves. I was prepped by Jackie and Steph, then the team that was part of my procedure was Dr. Ting, Lorena, Karen, Jessie, and Sonia. When they numb the area, they tap on your shoulder to help distract you and also tap around your mouth so you're not really sure when the shots are actually happening, hahaha. I liked that tactic. They offered me a blanket, which was extremely comforting for me. Dr. Ting spoke in what I can only describe as a yoga instructor's voice; it's very soothing and nurturing. The extraction process took no more than 15mins and they called my prescription into my preferred pharmacy for me. The whole experience was unforgettable. I can finally leave behind my childhood dental traumas and replace it with a positive memory. I sent them donuts once I got to my car because I appreciated the experience they gave me! Thank you, everyone at SMOMS!

Super great experience overall. I was referred over by 2 different practices. I went in and had to have my wisdom teeth and two additional teeth removed. My entire care team, Dr. Tanner, Jackie, Jessie, Ed, Sunny and Helen were all was super awesome and made me feel very comfortable with the process. I appreciated not only how professional they were, but also the bedside manner as well. I am someone who likes to joke, so always appreciate good sports to play along with the process and calm my nerves. I went in today for a follow-up and was in and out within 15 minutes of my appointment. Would recommend this place for anyone in the area.

I had a wisdom tooth with a complex extraction. Dr Ivry did a fantastic job. I developed dry socket - which is just my sort of luck, but I called and they immediately had me come in and Dr Park treated me / no extra charge - amazing - I would recommend them to anyone!

Upon referral from a dentist I've trusted for over the past ten years, I was seen by Dr. Ting to have an impacted wisdom tooth extracted. The office itself is gorgeous, spacious and covid restrictions are in place. In the original consultation I was impressed by Dr. Tings medical knowledge, specifically knowing the basic needs of my genetic disorder that is commonly unknown. I was also very happy as he was understanding and willing to do the process under local anesthesia rather than general as I absolutely abhor being fully put under. The surgical process itself took less then an hour total, was relatively painless (considering), and he talked me through everything the entire time. I was amazed to have a full team to assist, so very grateful to them all, and at one point towards the end, right when it was the worst before it got better (I think I was crying a little) someone offered to hold my hand! The stitches healed beautifully, my mouth is already more comfortable, and if the need for major work ever arises again, I know who I'll be coming back to. Thank you to everyone on staff, but a big shout out to Dr. Richard Ting and his team that day!!

I haven't been to the dentist for a couple years because of the pandemic. My wisdom teeth starting hurting and got recommended to come here. I found this location convenient because it is so close to my home. The staff was very welcoming and was very clear on how the procedure goes. Today I got four of them extracted. I was sedated during the surgery which was a good recommendation from Dr.Vajda. Besides the soreness I did not have a experience. I forgot the lady's name who helped me to get my car. She was very kind and explained post-OP protocol. Thanks again!

It doesn't get better than this. I am super-sensitive to pain & terrified of needles but Dr. Ting & the staff are terrific at calming me down & keeping me comfortable cDr. Ting just finished putting in a screw for my implant & the whole time he was working on me all I could think was "I love this guy. This place is wonderful. " I couldn't believe that I walked out without being traumatized as usual.
