My 6-year-old is neurodivergent and can get extremely anxious and agitated at the dentist. They were very patient and accommodating of his needs, including allowing him to sit in my lap and take breaks as needed. Sam and Dr. Trahan did their best to make sure his initial visit was a positive experience, so that hopefully he will be more at ease for future visits. The office is quiet, clean and calm, with interesting decor to distract and entertain kids.

Faux pediatric friendly. This was my son's very first dental visit as he recently turned two. I believe the prime importance of this visit is to establish trust and to have a positive experience at the dentist. I even called ahead to ensure this and the office assured me that this was absolutely the case and that they gauge the child's comfort level and do as much or little based on this. Reception was very friendly, and we waited about 20 minutes. Hygienist brought us back to the exam room, did not bother to acknowledge my son or even introduce himself to him. He told me to sit in the chair with my son on my lap. As my son began to get comfortable and look around I described what we were doing. The hygienist interrupted me and told me he was going to start the cleaning. I had to tell him that my newly two year old son had never seen any of the equipment before and would need a little intro (I should not have to express the obvious). The hygienist replied, 'Ok then, I will just brush the prophy onto his teeth instead,' and approached my son's mouth with the toothbrush without any interaction with him whatsoever, let alone warning. (Where's the introduction to Mr. Slurpy, etc!?) My son started to cry, and the hygienist very impatiently told me, 'You're just going to have to lay him over your knees and hold him down.' Excuse me? For an intro dental visit/brush his teeth? No, I will not be doing that. So I politely declined to do this and he jammed the toothbrush in anyway and scrubbed my screaming toddler's teeth. He was fast and aggressive. My son barely caught his breath before I was told it would be best to do the fluoride treatment now, before the dentist came in. I am reasonable and I know my son would benefit from the fluoride, so I agreed, but asked for a little more patience and compassion for the child patient. Nope. Same scenario with the fluoride. As my son was still crying, we were told we needed to go back to the waiting room and wait for the dentist to see us. We walked out to a packed house with no sitting room. We stood awkwardly in the middle of the room and waited about 15 minutes. When the dentist was ready to see us, same hygienist brought us back to the room in his signature annoyed and rushed manner, but this time into an anteroom and we sat on a floor cushion. Dentist arrived, loupes on, headlight shining in my son's face, ready to go, all business. She did introduce herself to my son, but we were both just blinded by the light. Hygienist again told me to hold him down so she could examine his teeth. He cried, I let her look in his mouth. I held him in my arms but did not 'restrain' him. She spent about 10 minutes with us. The worst part for my son was that he was told he could choose a toy from the prize box. Nope. Hygienist chose one for him and my son didn't want it because he was still crying, so hygienist chose again and brought him a ball. Honestly we were over all of it so we took the light up bouncy ball and left. We will not be returning. No child needs to be restrained at age two for a introductory dental visit. If you're going to market yourself as a 'pediatric' specialist of any kind, I expect that you and your staff specialize in and are invested in (maybe even enjoy) THE CARE OF CHILDREN.

The hygienist, I believe his name was Edwin, oh my gosh, he was a genius!!! His approach was such an incredible combination of enthusiasm and friendliness, it was seriously inspirational for me as a parent. I don't think I have ever seen a medical professional, teacher, babysitter, you name it, who was so incredibly gifted with young children. Everything else about the visit was great, but Edwin was unforgettable. Seriously! I would pay him large sums of money to teach me how to better encourage my kids to Cooperate with difficult tasks.

This was our first visit and it went very well. My wife filled the pre-visit paperwork and gave all our insurance info. I did not have to do anything at the receptionist counter after the appointment. Get there very early because parking spaces in downtown Santa Barbara are scarce.

My daughter fell at the playground and hit her mouth above her front teeth. They got me in right away and let me sit on the chair with her on my lap because she was so upset. They were so good with her and made her feel comfortable and at ease. Very grateful for the service.

We have only had good experiences with Dr. Ruby and his staff. My daughters are now 15 and 17 and we have been going to him since they were 5 and 7. I have appreciated their professionalism, promptness and efficiency. After reading some of the responses below, I'd like to say that they have always billed our insurance and they haven't asked for payment until after the insurance has paid. However, I have heard they are pricey, but I've always been confident in knowing that they were in good hands.

Prior to today's appointment for my four year old son, my wife and I had heard of bad experiences from other parents with Dr Rochon. My son was obviously uncomfortable and in pain during the Novocain injection. They continued to press on, at which point I said "he is only four, he is trying his best". I was met with a snarky response from what should be a professional of "and I am trying my best, Dad". At that moment, the stories we had heard were corroborated. One would hope a dentist or staff in this situation would do their level best to comfort both the patient and parent. We ended the appointment right then, and I was told by the staff not to worry because this happens all the time. I thought what happens all the time? The snarky comment from your dentist, or kids being uncomfortable in your chairs. Needless to say, neither of my kids will be going back to that office. Night and day compared to other dentists my kids have seen like Dr Kaslow in SYV, and Dr De Fonseca in SB. Priority should be put on comfort, not money.

Dr. Ruby is such a wonderful dentist and person. He's great with the little ones and very personable. He takes excellent care of my 2.5 year old son. Both hygienists we've had clean my son's teeth have been very patient, gentle, and kind. The staff at the office are really sweet as well.

They are very expensive. They don't seem to bill insurance, or at least it's not their first priority. They seem to want to recommend the most expensive procedures, such as full sedation with an anesthesiologist who costs $850 per 90 minutes. They are quite frank with telling you that insurance will not cover hardly anything. Many of their procedures cost thousands of dollars. They do not offer payment plans. I recommend that parents shop around for other pediatric dentists in SB and SLO Counties. There are some excellent ones out there, who are not only professional and kid-friendly, but also bill insurance and are much more affordable.

So caring and personable! My daughter always asks when she can go to the dentist again! This was not my experience as a child and I am thrilled to have changed the narrative.

I've been taking my son to Ruby & Rochon for 5 years now and at every visit we have had a good experience. All of the staff are so kind, caring, and helpful. The hygienists teach my son about how to brush his teeth and make the visit really fun so he looks forward to going back. He often asks me when his next appointment is! We trust Dr. Rochon and her years of experience. I definitely recommend them if you are in search of a new dentist.
