Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that I would be in my mid-career thoroughly fulfilled with what I do for my work. I enjoy dentistry because it affords me the ability to be an artist within the health care model. It is an art and a science. I also enjoy the people that I get to know along the way. Having spent years learning with the most intelligent dental professionals in the world, I find enjoyment sharing my knowledge with other dentists seeking to improve their skills.

Dentistry is fun because I enjoy helping people solve a problem. I believe that most dentists feel fulfilled when they can help someone smile. This sense of fulfillment can only happen when dental procedures are predictable, and the result creates happiness for my patients. Healthcare as I have come to know it, can be a problem focused profession that treats the specific problem while often the cause of that problem remains unresolved. My passion for creating sustainable smiles adapted into an integrative dental model over the past few years. Following many years of post-graduate training, while collaborating, when needed, with the medical community, I now get satisfaction helping my patients design and maintain their healthy smiles. Technology has become a commodity in healthcare and in dentistry. My goal is to introduce my patients to the latest technological advances while spending the necessary time to help them choose a pathway to health centered dental care. I have come to know that the learning never ends. I am honored to be part of a profession that has an ability to elevate the human spirit. I believe smiles change lives.

Cosmetic dentistry in my practice utilizes a digital scan of your teeth and same day fabrication of your dental restoration with CEREC technology. This is the age of 3-D printing with unmatched accuracy, with more accuracy than the use of impression materials. Through an educational process called co-diagnosis, patients become the decision-maker and artist as I guide them through a smile design process. We often learn that there was an unknown cause to their worn or broken teeth. When we discover this, my patient often chooses the most predictable and esthetic treatment which may include improving their health as well as creating a smile that they will enjoy forever! I am part of a team that includes our staff, a periodontist, orthodontist, otolaryngologist, myo-functional therapist, oral surgeon, endodontist and a sleep physician. My patients include children and teachers, mothers and fathers, retirees and satisfied professionals that show their trust by referring their extended families, co-workers and friends to Sandy Point Dental.

I graduated from Loyola University Dental School. Initially, my practice focused on pain management and restorative dental techniques. Following the creation of Sandy Point Dental with John McNerney DDS, optimizing the patient experience became our focus. This has required us to participate in an average of 150 continuing education hours per year. This includes completion of the continuum and membership with the Faculty Club at Spear Education, the most renowned post graduate dental education platform in the world. I am a credentialed fellow at the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD).

Completed the Breathe Course, a Sleep and Breathing course including a functional approach to frenuloplasty workshop with the Breathe Institute. The Breathe Institute is the global pioneer in bringing airway support to sleep and breathing related healthcare and education. We help great providers offer whole health for the whole family. Our team is focused on the precision diagnosis and comprehensive treatment of nasal obstruction, snoring, obstructive sleep apnea, breathing disorders, and its multidisciplinary approach is at the forefront of airway management. The Breathe Institute is proud to be advancing the standards of care through top-tier clinical education programs, pathfinding research endeavors, and most importantly, superior patient care.

I am a Qualified Dentist with the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. The AADSM is a chosen institution by the AMA integrating the dental profession into the treatment and care of flow limited breathing issues. We believe that this has reached epidemic proportions; dentistry is strategically positioned to help patients that suffer from sleep breathing issues. I am experiencing that this affects children as well as adults and sometimes whole families. It is our new passion to help our patients and families find a resolution to the devastating effects of oral-breathing and flow limited breathing.

I am a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. The AACD is the credentialing institution for the cosmetic dental specialty. This affiliation is a good fit with providing the best that dentistry has to offer to my cosmetically orientated patients. The pursuit of oral-facial esthetics is diagnostic as well as pleasing to the eye. This is a subjective discussion where I learn as much as a patient learns about their options. This is a creative endeavor that fits well with my passion for the artistic and precise elements in cosmetic dental restoration.

I have completed extensive training within the Airway Prosthodontic Training Program at Spear Education. This programs goal is to develop a comprehensive approach evaluating the use of oral appliances and their possible relationship to the management of Upper Airway Resistance chronic inflammation, functional somatic syndrome, oxidative stress, and metabolic disorders. Dentists are uniquely positioned to observe these biomarkers, sometimes, before they are known by the patient! I have helped create a team of Medical and Dental specialists in an interdisciplinary effort to help people through this confusing labyrinth of care.

I am committed to the treatment of TMD and oral and facial pain. My training and experience is extensive, having completed the inter-disciplinary workshops and symposiums in coursework not limited to Temporal Mandibular Disorders, Occlusion, The Worn Dentition, Complex Treatment Planning, and Anterior Restorative Design at the prestigious Spear Education. My outcomes have been most successful when a plan is understood by all parties involved in the clinical care of my patients.

Dr. McNerney grew up in a family of 6 in Oak Park, Illinois and attended OPRFHS. After high school he attended Triton college, the University of Illinois at Chicago and then went on to Northwestern University Dental School, with the aid of an academic grant. Dr. McNerney utilized the grant all four years. He graduated at the top of his dental school class and was awarded the Louis A. Hobson Memorial Award from the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery for Exemplary Performance in Educational Pursuits and Patient Care. He then was accepted into, and completed, a General Practice Residency at the Great Lake Naval Base and the North Chicago VA. The residency focused on advanced training in oral surgery, periodontal surgery and prosthodontics.

In 1995, Dr. Sam Calabrese and Dr. John McNerney opened the doors to Sandy Point Dental, PC in Lake Zurich. It has been a fun and amazingly successful venture. Dr. McNerney could not have asked for a better community to serve all off these years.

Dr. McNerney enjoys running, reading and photography. His favorite hobbies include going on walks, hanging out and vacationing with Tina, his wife of 30 years. He has 2 grown children who are both CPAs and work in the Chicago area.

I have been a dental hygienist for Sandy Point Dental since 2006. In high school, I became a dental assistant which made me want to further my education in dentistry and become a dental hygienist. I have been a registered dental hygienist since 2004. As a hygienist, it is very rewarding to see the transformations that occur when my patients become active in their oral health and well-being. Our hygiene team always goes the extra mile to make sure our patients receive the best experience. We offer the best techniques to aid in the removal of biofilm. From the air polisher, to our cancer screening Velscope, you truly have a one of a kind hygiene appt.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Jared, daughter Payton and son, Braden. Sandy Point Dental is the dental office for you! Whether its the warm smile that greets in person or the energetic voice over the phone, you will feel right at home from your very first visit.

I have worked as a dental hygienist for over 10 years. Working with the public is the highlight of my job. I enjoy getting to know each and every one of our patients and thrive on giving the highest quality of care. I treat every patient like family. I graduated Harper College in 2009 and have been enthusiastic in furthering my knowledge in order to give our patients a pleasurable and painless dental experience.

Outside of work, I enjoy running and oil painting. I spend most of my free time enjoying my wonderful family. My daughter, Rachel, keeps my husband, Jon, and I very busy but whatever time we can enjoy at home is spent with our loving dogs, Lulu and Butchie.

The most influential product I recommend is the Oral B electric toothbrush. I have seen the most improvement from switching from a manual tooth to an electric. I like the Oral B electric because it takes most of the work out of brushing, but you get a better result.

I graduated from William Rainey Harper College in Palatine with a degree in Dental Hygiene. I chose to pursue a career in dentistry because I love working in a fast paced and ever-changing field. I also enjoy the privilege of making long lasting relationships with many different people and helping them achieve optimal oral health. As a hygienist, I strive to create the most comfortable experience possible all while providing quality care. What I enjoy most about Sandy Point Dental is how passionate every member of the team is and how we all, as a team strive to provide the very best and highest quality dentistry. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, trying new food, and riding horses. Ive been a life-long horse lover and am currently focusing my time in the saddle practicing hunter/jumpers.

I have worked in the dental field since 2000, and joined the team at Sandy Point Dental in 2007. While working in the dental field I have worked at the front desk and as a dental assistant, and working at Sandy Point Dental has allowed me to use all the skills I have obtained throughout the years. I enjoy working with patients and helping to educate them on maintaining good oral health. Our office carries a wide variety of products to choose from but my favorite is the Sonicare Toothbrush. When not at work I spend most of my time with my friends and family. I also enjoy relaxing and spending time with my husband and son.

I have always believed in service with a smile and there is no better place to offer up my smile than Sandy Point Dental. In 2007 I was welcomed into this office with open arms and I am happy to exchange the same gesture to everyone that comes through our door. I have always been dedicated to teaching and learning. After earning my Bachelors Degree in English from Northern Illinois University, I decided to test myself in the dental world. This field allows me to experience new things everyday and it lets me share those experiences with my teammates and patients. My life outside the exciting world of dentistry consists of reading, writing, playing tennis and spending time with my friends and family.

The experiences I have shared in this office have been truly educational. One product our office carries that happens to be a personal favorite of mine is the Woven Floss. This product gives my mouth a clean and refreshing feeling that I havent found from any other floss. It even has fluoride in it! My position here at Sandy Point Dental allows me to do what I love most ... SMILE!!

I have been working with Dr. John McNerney at Sandy Point Dental since July of 2013. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and my dog. Our Cerec machine is just one of the many things I love about Sandy Point Dental. This machine allows us to offer same day crowns/restorations which minimizes the patients time in our office and creates a crown of exceptional quality.

Starting off as a Nursing assistant, I made the decision to branch off into the dental field where I have worked for 3 years as an assistant, one of those being at Sandy Point Dental. The office has been more than welcoming and Ive been able to educate myself in so many new things in the amount of time Ive spent at Sandy Point.
