Over a period of time, the jawbone associated with missing teeth atrophies is reabsorbed. This often leaves a condition in which there is poor quality and quantity of bone suitable for placement of dental implants. In these situations, most patients are not candidates for placement of dental implants.

With bone grafting, we now have the opportunity to not only replace bone where it is missing, but also the ability to promote new bone growth in that location! This not only gives us the opportunity to place implants of proper length and width, it also gives us a chance to restore functionality and esthetic appearance.

Autogenous bone grafts, also known as autografts, are made from your own bone, taken from somewhere else in the body. The bone is typically harvested from the chin, jaw, lower leg bone, hip, or the skull. Autogenous bone grafts are advantageous in that the graft material is live bone, meaning it contains living cellular elements that enhance bone growth.

However, one downside to the autograft is that it requires a second procedure to harvest bone from elsewhere in the body. Depending on your condition, a second procedure may not be in your best interest.

Allogenic bone, or allograft, is dead bone harvested from a cadaver, then processed using a freeze-dry method to extract the water via a vacuum. Unlike autogenous bone, allogenic bone cannot produce new bone on it's own. Rather, it serves as a framework or scaffold over which bone from the surrounding bony walls can grow to fill the defect or void.

Xenogenic bone is derived from non-living bone of another species, usually a cow. The bone is processed at very high temperatures to avoid the potential for immune rejection and contamination. Like allogenic grafts, xenogenic grafts serve as a framework for bone from the surrounding area to grow and fill the void.

Both allogenic and xenogenic bone grafting are advantageous in that they do not require a second procedure to harvest your own bone, as with autografts. However, because these options lack autograft's bone-forming properties, bone regeneration may take longer than with autografts, with a less predictable outcome.

This product is processed allograft bone, containing collagen, proteins, and growth factors that are extracted from the allograft bone. It is available in the form of powder, putty, chips, or as a gel that can be injected through a syringe.

Graft composites consist of other bone graft materials and growth factors to achieve the benefits of a variety of substances. Some combinations may include: collagen/ceramic composite, which closely resembles the composition of natural bone, DBM combined with bone marrow cells, which aid in the growth of new bone, or a collagen/ceramic/autograft composite.

Synthetic materials also have the advantage of not requiring a second procedure to harvest bone, reducing risk and pain. Each bone grafting option has its own risks and benefits. Dr. Vergara will determine which type of bone graft material is right for you.

Your just a number as most of these others medical providers around here. it's all about the money. Even with good dental and medical coverage they want to find ways to make you pay. Office staff short and a bit rude. I've got an infection and abscess with severe pain. Trying to keep it from getting worse and all there concern about is the money. I called my insurance and they asked me why they were charging me for a consultation that my insurance cover's. I ask the rude person who answered the phone and he responded they will credit me and put it towards the surgery. Well what if I decided to go else where cause there rude and money hungry. Where do you credit me there.

I'm late to make my review. Couldn't find where to. Last implant I had done was with Dr Graves in Ardmore. I remembered, pain & nausea. Just some. I did take the pain tablets prescribed. Well, this time, I took my little pill 1 hour before the procedure was scheduled and next thing I knew I was waking up & going home. No pain until 3 days later that an occasional tyenol & ibuprofen took care of. I had a tooth extraction and bone implanted. And the only discomfort I felt was the liquid diet. I learned to liquified oatmeal cereal. I've healed now so looking forward to having my implant done. Best experience ever!! Thank you, everyone!!

I had A kiddo that had some wisdom teeth come in fast and cause a lot of pain. We live out of the metroplex so it's a drive to get anywhere. When I called they were so accommodating and understanding of the situation and got us in quickly and were able to get him in for surgery within 2 days! Dr Vergara and staff ~ esp Jerry Lynn were amazing and sweet!

When you go to Dr. Vergara you are going to a friend. Her staff especially Ashley go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable. I was scared to death when I walked in the first time and now I feel like I am treated like family. I would recomend her for all my friends and family.

I have been a patient of Dr Vergara's for over 5 years. She has done multiple extractions and 3 implants. I have had extractions done other places, and I can promise you that, if you follow her instructions, you will have very little bruising and no significant swelling or pain. She's the most careful surgeon I have met. I have had the opportunity to read the other reviews. I know she has had problems with her staff since I have been a patient. Those things happen and are very annoying to have to deal with as a patient. But, Dr Vergara's talents and skills as a surgeon and her bedside manner are beyond reproach. Over the years I have referred many patients to her and have NEVER regretted it; all have had great experiences.

Tried to ignore the poor communication skills on the phone & being hung up on twice! Still gave it a chance. The young lady at the desk seemed aggressive & gave me no attempt to provide info. Wouldn't trust my life with this "Drs office"

I had a terrible infection in my jaw for months and could not get it terminated from other dental professionals (more than one). My heart doctor referred me to Dr. Vergara. Dr. Vergara investigated with an infectious disease doctor as well as my personal physicians. As a result the infection was terminated. I had to have oral surgery on two of my lower jaw teeth. Dr. Vergara did the surgery and installed two implants. I have enjoyed eating ever since. Dr. Vergara and her staff are truly professionals! Up dated July 14, 2021. I have now completed my third successful treatment with Dr. Vergara. By the way you will enjoy working with her staff, Ashley, Diana, and Megan. I continue to highly recommend Dr. Vergara and her staff for successful treatment solutions!

This office is unorganized. They ran treatment through insurance when they were told not to (insurance already told pt they would not cover implants). Their charting is unacceptable. They are missing paperwork that should be in the pt file. The dr states for the warranty to be valid, pt must go in every year for a checkup. The manufacturer said this is incorrect. Manufacturer said you could never go in and it would be covered under warranty. This office unethical and not truthful. Spend your money at Dr. Urbanek's office.
