I feel very fortunate to have gained expert training to become a pediatric specialist and to spend each day at work with kids. It is fulfilling to see my patients have enjoyable experiences at the dentist office which lead to a lifetime of healthy habits.
I grew up in a small town in south eastern Utah. I completed my undergraduate degree at The University of Utah in Salt Lake City. I received my Doctorate of Dental Surgery from The Ohio State University and spent an additional three years earning a PhD in Oral Biology. I went on to complete a pediatric dental residency at top ranked Cincinnati Childrens Hospital, where I served as the chief resident my final year.
During my pediatric specialty training, I gained extensive experience in sedation dentistry, emergency and trauma care, and the latest advancements in pediatric dental care while serving a diverse population of infants, children, adolescents, and patients with special needs.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family while exploring the outdoors, hiking, water skiing, playing soccer, and cycling. My favorite place to vacation is Lake Powell, where I grew up spending a lot of my summer time andmade many good memories. Its great to be back near my home state and create new memories with my own family.
I am passionate about pediatric dentistry as well as continuing education and training. I am a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, as well as a Diplomat of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. I maintain hospital privileges at Presbyterian Hospital and Lovelace Hospital.
There are many areas of prevention and care that are unique to children which a Pediatric Dentist is specifically trained to identify, treat, and prevent. That is why many parents wisely choose a Pediatric Dentist for their childs dental needs, just as they choose a Pediatrician for their medical needs.
Children are our only patients, and all of our training is devoted to meeting their specialized needs. A Pediatric Dentist has two to three additional years of training beyond undergraduate and dental education.
As a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist, the American Board of Pediatric Dentists (ABPD) certifies that the dental carewhich Dr.Sjostrom provides is based on standards of excellence that lead to high quality oral health care for infants, children, adolescents and patients with special health care needs. Certification by the ABPDguarantees that a Pediatric Dentist has successfully completed accredited training and a voluntary examination process designed to continually validate the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to the delivery of quality patient care.
Dr. Sjostrom is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD), afellow of the American Association of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), and a member of the American Dental Association (ADA). He maintains privileges at Presbyterian Hospital and Lovelace Hospital for children requiring treatment under general anesthesia.

I called and asked if they're excepting new patients and she said yes in a very positive attitude and once I asked if they excepted Medicaid suddenly they were booked I guess people with Medicaid get treated differently at this establishment very sad

I love this pediatric dentistry office! Dr Sjostrom is wonderful with the kids and the staff is helpful and friendly. The kids LOVE going to the dentist now! Big smiles all around.

Very disappointed and disheartened. Upon trying to schedule an appointment for my child I was informed that Dr. Sjostrom is no longer accepting Medicaid insurance and we could be put on a waitlist. As I asked further questions I was told that this new policy is because the doctor is the only provider in that office. I then asked "if I had another type of insurance could my child be seen immediately?" The answer was "yes." Wow. I have concluded that I was lied to about the reasoning for this policy change. It in fact was not about the lack of additional providers but was solely due to the fact that I have the less desirable insurance. The number of providers at this office would not miraculously change if I had a different insurance. I am so disappointed and disheartened that Dr. Sjostrom would do this to his patients and their families. We put a lot of trust and faith in him and he let us down. It would've been nice if we were informed of this policy change prior and if we weren't lied to.

Best pediatric dentist in Albuquerque! Dr Sjostrom is thorough, patient, gentle, and does meticulous work. The staff is so good with my kids and always make them feel calm and comfortable. The office is so clean and a fun atmosphere. We love Dr. Sjostrom and all his staff. Could not ask for a better dentist.

I have 4 children! my oldest who is now 13 had the worst experience at Adventure Dental which left her traumatized attending dental visits in the future. She would literally cry and beg to skip her dental visits. I was eventually referred to Sandia Pediatric Dentistry and we are forever grateful. Dr. Sjostrom along with the staff are always very welcoming, patient, kind and efficient! My children now look forward to their dental visits and that puts this mamas gitters at ease! Sandia Pediatric Dentistry is the best hands down! Thank you for making these dental visits enjoyable not only for the kiddos but for parents like myself who tag along as well! Keep being awesome!!

I found Sandia Pediatric Dentistry through a whole bunch of moms on Facebook recommending them. I was not disappointed at all. My daughter (2yr old) is VERY shy, but the lady she had clean her teeth made her feel so comfortable she did not cry one time! The staff is so amazing & nice! It takes a lot of patience to work with children and they make it seem so easy. I left with the biggest smile. Thank you!!

This is a great place to go take care of your kids teeth. The team was very friendly , helpful and professional examining , providing with solutions by priority. The dentist dr.Sjostrom was honest, straight forward and gave me the options for the treatment plan, I would highly recommend Sandia Pediatric dentistry to everyone.

Sandia Pediatric Dentistry is, hands down, the best. Dr. Sjostrom and his entire staff are amazing. I have 5 kids and they always get excited when I tell them they're going into the dentist. All of my questions are always answered, the staff know my kids by name (and have known one of them since before he was born), and they are always flexible if something comes up. I cannot recommend Sandia Pediatric Dentistry enough. We've been through it all over the course of the years. When we first became patients, two of my kids needed teeth pulled. It was horrifying for me, but there was no judgment. We just left and all 5 of my kids were cavity free. I credit the change to the excellent job Dr. Sjostrom and his staff have done at educating my kids and making dental health a fun but important part of my kids' lives. Thank you so much, you guys are the best!

I had to schedule 6 months out for my daughters cavities. We arrived for her appointment at 10:30 AM, the dentist didn't come into the room until 11:30 am. By that point my daughter was antsy and nervous. The dentist was in the room for maybe two minutes, he was incredibly impatient and my daughter was terrified of him as he was practically yelling. He made no effort to be kind or gentle so she never made it back into the chair. He snapped his gloves off and walked off saying something about rescheduling. Not likely...

We love Dr. Sjostrom's clinic. Every time we visit, the clinic is VERY clean, staff is helpful and always willing to answer questions, and the appointments are VERY efficient. We love Dr. Sjostrom and his staff, they are great with my daughter. I would definitely recommend this dentist to others - I wish he saw adults too!

This place is a joke .... they scheduled me and then didn't remember when I confirmed they had me scheduled it's a 6 hr drive for stupidity so now I found a 5 star review in lubbock 1 hr away even better...good luck that's all I have ro say ...

Dr. Sjostrom's office is bright and welcoming and he has the staff to match. My kids always have a pleasant experience going to the dentist, even if they have to have a procedure. I grew up afraid of the dentist, so it's a relief that my kids don't hate going. I really appreciate Dr. Sjostrom, the staff, and the environment!
