Paulo Cortes, DMD, is a board-certified dentist who serves Mira Mesa in the greater San Diego, California, community. At San Diego Smile Center, Dr. Cortes and his team offer services associated with general and cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Cortes graduated from Castle Park high school in Chula Vista. After graduating high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force, went on to work for large telecommunication companies, and then decided to return to school to pursue his passion to serve and help others. He returned to school, receiving his first degree in Biology from the University of San Diego. He then decided to focus his study on dentistry and received his doctorate from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
He eventually completed externships in Oral Surgery at Banner Good Samaritan Hospital (located in Phoenix, Arizona) and Highland Hospital (Oakland, California). To maintain his credentials, Dr. Cortes attends continuing education classes each year to ensure his patients have access to the latest technological advancements.
Dr. Cortes and his wife, Anaissa, met at the University of San Diego. They have two young daughters together, Valentina and Paulina. As a family, they enjoy cooking, traveling, and enjoying the beautiful San Diego weather together.

Nothing personal but I find going to the dentist as appealing as, well, going to the dentist. I found myself with an infected loose tooth, no insurance, and no dentist. A true friend recommended Dr Paulo Cortez. I submitted a request for an appointment an hour and a half from creating that request through their website. I figured no way would that request be granted but the pain was getting worse and had nothing to lose. Annanis called, said she could squeeze me in between patients, and I flew over to their office. The first time visit check in process handled through text was easy and efficient. The procedure itself was quick and painless. Dr. Cortez sensed I was nervous and with a mellow voice and comforting pat on my shoulder worked his magic and I was out of there in half an hour. Since I do not have insurance I was concerned about the cost. Annanis explained all aspects of the bill prior to the examination and I was pleasantly surprised at the reasonableness of the total. I love Dentist Dr Paulo F Cortes, his wife Anaissa and Staff. They are friendly group and they ensure their patient's oral hygiene, is done right. I had a previous Dentist that used old material, which caused my fillings to fall out frequently. Dr Cortez uses current dental care products ensuring lasting dental restorations for temporary and permanent fillings that stay in, thus protecting the teeth from further decay and improving overall health. And REDUCING FINANCIAL COST. THIS PRODUCES more smiles for their patients. WE ALL NEED MORES SMILES!!!

Awesome dental office for whole family. They have flexible hours and All the staffs go way beyond to help you out including scheduling the appointments, taking care of the dental hygiene. I truly recommend this place for your overall dental care.

The whole staff is amazing! From check in to check out they had my questions answered. Bree is amazing and the the best hygienist I've had to date she's caring and asks you if your having any discomfort during the cleaning, she stops to check on you and she's funny. Dr is great he has always taken care of me and I trust him with anything he tells me because he's tht good. Check them out you won't be disappointed!

Been going to Smile Center for years now. Always great and prompt service. Most recently I had to go in to get a chipped tooth looked at, they were able to fit me in the same morning I called in, and get me in and out in no time. Their service is wonderful, and are great at explaining the reason for the work they need to do.

I've had several bad dental experiences in the past that led to a lifetime of dental phobias. I met Dr. Cortes and his amazing team for the first time in December of 2020 after an embarrassing incident with my one of veneers. With no questions, he and his staff came to the rescue (over the holiday none the less!), repairing my veneer, and then shortly after completely replacing the set. In their wonderful hands, I feel confident about my smile and even more confident that I have the best dental care possible. I am so grateful for them!

My experience at the San Diego Smile Center has been great. Dr. Cortes is amazing at what he does. I can't say enough good things about San Diego Smile Center. I've moved 2 times since first becoming a patient and I continue to make the drive to come to them. I'm generally a nervous dental patient but every time I come in, I'm treated like family. The entire staff is amazing and they always make accommodations for my TMJ. If you're looking for a dentist, stop looking and go here! I cannot recommend this office more!

I highly recommend San Diego Smile Center for many years! They are transparent and honest, and actually show you on the X-ray where the issue is, which I highly value. Dr Cortes and his staff are caring and professional, and deliver on the smilies :)
