Throughout the course of my life, I have always done my very best to exude decorum and respect to others; in a very real manner, we all long to feel as if we are in possession of value and worthy of respect. It saddens me to say that I have not found that here in the least; in fact, I have been made to feel completely devoid of value as a result of all I have endured at the hands of a physician who quite simply lacks the prerequisite skill set to be a competent physician. On 5/11/22, a root canal was performed on tooth number fifteen via Osterhoudt; shortly after this procedure came to fruition, I experienced profound pain that manifested quite incessantly. It took a duration of weeks before Dr. Osterhoudt admitted to creating an iatrogenic error that manifested in the form of a ledge during this root canal, which prevented one of the canals to be filled to the apex, while another canal was missed altogether, ultimately equating to a failure of this procedure. I was referred to a colleague of Dr. Ostrhoudt, an Endodontist, to retreat the tooth that was so badly compromised by this physician's vast ineptitude as a practitioner. I failed to seek legal action at the time as Dr. Osterhoudt offered to pay for the retreatment of this tooth in conjunction with the money I invested in sedation. Because this tooth was so badly compromised via Dr. Osterhoudt, I am still in incredible pain as even a retreatment failed to rectify the incredible damage imposed upon this tooth. Upon requesting an implant to replace the tooth I shall ultimately lose as a result of this practitioner's innate lack of ability, I was told via Osterhoudt that because of the "Pride" he has in his work, he needn't have even offered to pay for a retreat via an Endodontist as though this physician did not engage in malpractice; as though he did me a favor after he destroyed my tooth and failed to convey that fact for weeks after the fact. Once a tooth is lost, resorption of the bone at the site of extraction equates to a disfigurement of one's countenance. I am a relatively young man; to endure the loss of a tooth in conjunction with the disfigurement that shall manifest as a result of this man's innate lack of ability is heartbreaking. I have stayed silent about this until now and kept a post up that praised this practice BEFORE this malpractice came to fruition, however, it would be quite unconscionable if I didn't warn others before God-forbid a child, or another adult endures the same fate. Some people lack the ability to be a physician, Dr. Osterhoudt is one of them. I shall seek legal remedies to be made whole, I implore you to seek care elsewhere before this man disfigures you as well.

Excellent Doctor and Staff. There was not a long wait time. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Dr. Osterhoudt is the best. I've been going to his office for 20 years.

I love this office! I switched dentists about 3 years ago and have been so glad I switched. The dentist and his team are seriously so kind. I never feel judged or anything they make me feel so comfortable!

I can't say enough good things about Dr. O and his staff. I have been going to him for a few years now but prior to that didn't go to the dentist for years due to previous trauma and having a huge fear. He and his staff are so amazingly friendly, and always make me feel comfortable. He had performed root canals as well as tooth extractions on me with literally no pain during my appointment, anytime I've had a problem they are always quick so to get me in and take care of me. I will be a patient for life. Thank you all for everything you do.

This dental office is terrible please don't ever go here. I'm a dental professional and my sister had a broken tooth and they took her insurance so I went with her to the appointment and first off the staff was very uneducated and quite honestly rude when they found out what I did for a living my sister has has a root canal done here and looking at the X-ray that was taken there were huge air pockets in her build up then when they looked at the broken tooth they didn't even get the correct tooth in the X-ray the doctor took a look at it for a quick second and said just wait tell it hurts you. So they are just waiting tell she needs another root canal to then make more off of it or they are just extremely negligent. When I asked for a copy of her X-rays so we can go to a new dentist they told me they would have to charge me a fee if I wanted them and then to top it all off when they said they would not be doing treatment the doctor looked at the assistant and said " We can go to Starbucks now" then left the room. This dentist was extremely unprofessional and the staff was not helpful or kind don't waste your time or money coming here

The impetus of this brief narrative is to memorialize in written form my unfathomable appreciation for the kindness bestowed by Megan, Cara, Dr. Osterhoudt and the rest of the staff at Salt Lake Smiles alike. I have always stated that kindness is nothing less than an anomaly in this world; it is for that reason that it is imperative that kindness is indeed recognized whenever it does come to fruition. Throughout the course of my life, I have suffered with an incredibly profound fear of dentistry; although I am quite cognizant of the fact that pain can be easily be mitigated through modern medical interventions, my trepidation about receiving dental care pertained to a severe gag flex that historically had always infringed upon my ability to receive care. Intellectually, I understood that neglecting my dental health would have a deleterious effect not merely on the integrity of the structure of my teeth, but on my overall sense of confidence as well. Upon scheduling my appointment, I initially spoke to Megan who exuded a kind of empathy that is quite rare. It was quite embarrassing to verbalize how my issue with a severe gag reflex has impeded upon my treatment for such a copious amount of time and how my teeth are now so compromised as a result; however, I felt no judgment in the equation; instead, I was relieved to learn that IV sedation would indeed be an option available to me that would allow the issues with my dental health to finally be rectified. Upon arriving for my appointment, Cara exuded kindness and patience. It was apparent that she was doing everything in her power to take X-rays without triggering the gag reflex I have spoken of previously. She was quite adept at her job and made the process nothing to fear. Although I was incredibly anxious, Cara displayed patience and understanding throughout the entirety of the process; a process that is quite benign and rudimentary to most, yet made nearly impossible by a physiological response that renders dental treatment nearly impossible for both practitioner and patient alike. Dr. Osterhoudt spent a significant amount of time addressing the current state of my teeth and the various options that will allow my issues to be rectified. It is rare a physician is willing to invest so much time in a patient in the midst of addressing a myriad of responsibilities simultaneously at any given time. I find it surreal that very soon I shall no longer be in such profound pain; that soon my confidence shall be restored. For so long, I've allowed crippling fear and anxiety to jeopardize my teeth and cause me to live in a state of incessant pain. I very much believe in God's providence; because God is omniscient, he was cognizant of my suffering; I am convinced He led me here. After speaking to Megan, I never consulted another dentist for I knew I was led here. Her knowledge base as it pertains to the nuances of various insurance plans and what they entail was impressive, but what impressed me the most was her heart and the heart of the rest of the staff of Salt Lake Smiles. From the deepest recesses of my heart, please know how grateful I am for your kindness and for allowing me to finally address what I have feared for so very long.

Nearly a year later will have not gotten my teeth, first set they made where the ugliest pair of buck teeth that didn't fit me at all, now still waiting for my teeth worst experience ever, I wouldn't recommend these hours to anyone about the only thing is they were polite but I guess I would be too if I'm playing with someone's life, other then a polite coffee the service sucks I would not send anyone here sorry. But it's truth and these reviews need truth, it may have taken a long time, but finally got my teeth and they look great my only issue is the bottom ones but at least finally I have a pair that fits my old smile. Thank you

Best dentist ever and best staff. My teeth were so poor and now they have 21 crowns and I'm getting partials for one upper left side smile tooth pulled and one upper right back and my pulled 4 back teeth on the bottom and my insurance covered everything. I feel so lucky. I never thought this was possible to even want to brush my teeth are smile. It is hard learning to smile all the time. Dr O made this possible Thank you so extremely much Salt Lake Smiles West Jordan well oiled team you have there oh also one very easy root canal. I just zoned myself out and let them do their work every appointment, never needed anything for nerves, but it was offered. It was like the Christmas tooth fairy came every appointment and gave me a few new teeth at a time and they look natural to me

I love our dentist and I have been going there for over 20 years now, my daughter has been going for 17 years. I was very disappointed recently with the girl answering the phones. She wasn't very customer friendly. She was quick to cancel both of our appointments and hang up the phone when I told her that we have Medicaid. She did offer me a package, but it was quite pricy. My daughter and I have been going to the dentist every 6 months for years, and now we can't even afford to go. Frustrating!

I went here because of the reviews and was disappointed. The office personnel are inattentive and the dental technicians are only taught to up-sell. They spent ten minutes telling me how important sealants were for my daughter's teeth, and then did three of them on my daughter's premolars in five minutes and charged me $87. I later found out that sealants are only necessary on molars, which is probably why insurance companies don't pay for them on other teeth. When I was hesitant about paying $29 a tooth for sealants since my daughter's orthodontist bills are already so high, not one person told me that her three fillings that day would probably cost me almost a couple hundred dollars, because I would have declined the "recommended" sealants completely. Dr. Osterhoudt said that my daughter wouldn't need anesthesia for her fillings, so he started drilling away and she had to stop him and tell him that she was in a lot of pain. He admitted that the cavity was deeper than he'd thought, but he must have decided to just drill until she complained...:/ The tech kept commenting on how much my daughter "gleaked," which made her feel really uncomfortable and embarrassed. Then, I was billed over $200 for the work done that day, and I have insurance! Keeping the patient/customer informed and keeping hurtful comments to yourself is key to any business. They are unfeeling and unprofessional. Go somewhere else.
