I grew up in Sandy, Utah where I cultivated a love for camping, hiking, skiing and spending time with family and friends. I graduated from the University of Utah in 1998 with a degree in medical biology and an amazing girlfriend. Soon after, Melissa Mitchell agreed to become my wife, and accompanied me to Richmond, Virginia where I attended dental school, and she finished her biology degree at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Through my studies, I acquired a love for the art and science of dentistry that I now nurture every day by giving patients beautiful, healthy smiles. I constantly marvel at Mother Natures work, and when I restore teeth, I try to follow the laws of nature to replicate her genius.
I partner with extremely talented ceramists who shares my passion for cosmetic and rehabilitative dentistry, and a deep knowledge of the guiding principles of dental aesthetics. These qualities allow us to achieve beautiful, natural looking results.
Our staff is the best! We have an amazing team of highly trained and skilled professionals. They have all been hand-selected by Dr. Barnhisel because they share his passion for taking great care of patients.
Our team includes scheduling and billing specialists who work to accommodate your schedule, inform on fees, make financial arrangements, process insurance claims and maximize your benefits. My husband and I would recommend Dr. B and his staff to everyone. The front office is relaxed and friendly. There is never a wait time and we never feel rushed. Dr. B is committed to excellent work. He cares about and takes time to listen to our concerns and communicates procedures well. He is professional, thorough, and meticulous. We trust him with our Oral Health. He is up to date on all the newest dental procedures and uses the latest technology.

I absolutely love Salt Lake Smile Design. Dr. Barnhisel is a true master of his craft and clearly loves what he does. He also happens to be one of the nicest people you'll ever meet! He was really gentle and made my visit painless! 10/10

I've been going to them for about 20 years. The staff is fabulous and Dr B. is amazing. I recommend them to everyone. Why? Here's one example..... Two root canals in literally zero pain ( without gas and being awake:). If you live along the Wasatch front make the drive.

Went in for a teeth cleaning and ended up with over a $500 bill. There never asked if I wanted services other than teeth cleaning, was only suppose to be $150.
