Dr. Mark Mangelson specializes in diagnosing periodontal (gum) disease and the treatment of periodontal disease using both non-surgical and surgical techniques. He has over 20 years of experience as an implant surgeon, placing thousands of dental implants. He is a Board Certified periodontist and a diplomate of the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP).
After completing four years of dental school at Creighton University, Dr. Mangelson continued his studies in a three-year postgraduate periodontal program at the University of Oklahoma. He continued to pursue board certification by following periodontal patient case studies and masterfully presenting his findings to a nationally elected board of periodontists. Not only is Dr. Mangelson a dental specialist and Board Certified periodontist, but he is also an active diplomate of the American Academy of Periodontics, which requires ongoing continuing education and recertification.
Mark Mangelson, DDS, MS has served as a Utah Dental Association delegate and as the president of the Intermountain Society of Periodontists. He is also an active member of the American Dental Association (ADA), the Utah Dental Association (UDA), the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the International College of Dentists and the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP). He is currently an associate professor at the U of U dental residency program.

I've been going to Dr. Mark Mangelson for many years. He is very professional. His hygienist, Becky, does a thorough job and is very friendly. The staff is also very friendly and helpful. The exam areas and office are always clean.

I can't imagine a better place for making sure your teeth stay healthy. Dr M made pulling a wisdom tooth a walk in the park and a casual conversation with him reveals he is a real tooth scientist...come to find out he spent years on the national board! Meanwhile, Becky somehow makes my teeth look clean despite my best efforts at neglect with a lovely and sincere candor and deft hand. Professional, nationally recognized, reassuring and friendly, with great ambience, I rest easy in their care. Highest recommendation.

Felt very safe with Covid anxiety. They all wore masks and were very aware of keeping things sanitized. My hygienist is always so cute and friendly and thorough in my teeth cleaning. Dr. M always has a smile. He is kind and not in a rush. Totally trust him for all my periodontist needs! Another visit------- I trust Dr. Mangelson so much! I thought I had a deep pocket problem , however, he found a crown that was seeping and needed attention that my Dentist did find! Way to go Dr.M. So glad that I have someone I can trust that tells me what is going on in my mouth!

Dr. Mangelson made me feel safe and validated when I went to get a second opinion with him. I'm now going to continue to see him! Everyone in the office was affirming, empathetic and welcoming. I was the only patient in the office that I could tell, and was thoroughly impressed by their Covid precautions. Love their hours, friendliness and accessibility. I also appreciated having Dr. Mangelson talk to me every step of the appointment, answer my questions, provide me with handouts, and gave me alternative options that I felt comfortable with. Highly recommend this practice and Dr. Mangelson. I will be a continuing patient.

I was referred to Dr. Mangelson by my orthodontist as it was noted as a result of the orthodontic work and/or double jaw surgery I had experienced some gum recession. Dr. Mangelson used some gum tissue from the left side of my palate and covered the area in question complete with stitches and without issue. I was all healed up within a week or two and follow-up appointments were quick and easy. Office staff is very friendly. From what I recall, I had the initial valuation and procedure in one visit and was there in the chair for less than a couple hours, the procedure itself did not seem very long at all. For some, having a gum draft may seem a bit daunting but since I had just recently had double jaw surgery 7 months earlier it made the gum draft experience seem like a cake walk. If I was in need of any additional periodontal work, I would not hesitate to return to Dr. Mangelson.
