D. Gordon Rye, DDS has more than 40 years of experience in providing Exceptional Dentistry to residents of the metropolitan DC region as well as people who travel from all over the world. As a cosmetic dentist, he ensures that each patients smile is as beautiful as it can be for many years to come. Dr. Rye is a devoted husband and father of three.
Dr. Joseph Khawand, aka Dr. K, was born in Washington D.C., and grew up in the northern Virginia area. During his mid-teens, he began shadowing his family dentist and appreciated how the profession allowed him to work with his hands, help patients, and revealed a wide scope of practice. After shadowing practitioners in various offices and diverse specialties, Dr. Khawand decided dentistry was what he wanted to dedicate his life to.
Milena has been part of our exceptional team since September 2017. She received her Bachelors in Dental Hygiene from Baylor College of Dentistry in 2005. She is also certified in Cardiac Life Support. Milena keeps her skills and knowledge up to date by completing many continuing education courses each year. She has been a wonderful hygienist for over ten years. []
After completing his undergraduate education at Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota, Dr. Rye received his dental training at the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Rye completed a two-year general practice residency at the University of Virginia Hospital before opening his practice in Fairfax. Since then Dr. Rye has trained with some of the worlds most prominent cosmetic dental specialists.
Dr. Rye was selected by Dr. Garg, the founder of the American Dental Implant Association (ADIA) to teach aesthetics across the nation. Dr. Rye is also a regular clinical instructor at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI).
The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) selected Dr.Rye in 2012 to receive the AGDS Lifelong Learning and Service Recognition (LLSR). Earning this prestigious recognition from the AGD symbolizes Dr. Ryes dedication to dentistry and the fulfillment of his professional responsibility to give back to the dental profession and his community through his volunteer efforts. By embracing these core beliefs of the AGD throughout his career, he has set an example all general dentists are encouraged to emulate. Less than 200 members of the AGD have earned the LLSR. Dr. Ryes commitment to the practice of dentistry and quality patient care, his volunteer efforts and his continuing pursuit of education after attaining Mastership is something of which he, his team and his family are extremely proud.
Dr Rye earned the title of Fellow of the American Dental Implant Association in 2010. Subsequently in 2011 he earned the title of Master of the American Dental Implant Association (MADI). Both distinctions are the result of expert training and leadership through Implant Seminars, Inc., under the direction the world renowned and respected leader in the implant industry, Dr. Arun Garg.
Dr. Rye has been awarded the status of Master of the prestigious Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI). LVI dentists are trained to evaluate each patients unique concerns and desires to create their perfect smile. At his Fairfax County practice, Dr. Rye is devoted to dentistry that combines personalized care with art, science, skill, and technology. Dr. Rye spends extra time getting to know his patients and listening to their goals for cosmetic dentistry, so that he can create a plan to achieve the smile they desire.

Immediately after graduating from MCV Dental School Dr Rye began his continuing education journey in one of the most prestigious training programs in the United States, the University of Virginia Hospital General Practice Residency. During his two years at the University of Virginia he received advanced training in multiple fields of Dentistry. Dr Rye worked one-on-one with some of the best educators and dental clinicians in the world. He still considers these two years of his professional training to be the most beneficial of all his continuing education. His educators instilled him with the confidence he needed to provide exceptional dentistry for his patients. They emphasized the importance of advanced training, and they were directly responsible for inspiring him to seek quality continuing education for the rest of his professional life.
Through the years, Dr. Rye has emphasized the advancement of his dental education, completing thousands of hours of continuing education courses with a focus on cosmetics, TMJ treatment, and complex dental reconstruction. patient care. He has also earned the status of Master of the Academy of General Dentistry (MAGD) for completing a set of rigorous requirements in a comprehensive range of dental disciplines.

After graduating from George Mason University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Dr. Khawand completed an accelerated Master of Biomedical Sciences program at Barry University in Miami, FL. Dr. Khawand also understands the value of research alongside clinical acumen and worked for one year at the National Institutes of Health in Maryland prior to beginning dental school. While in dental school at Howard University, Dr. Khawand developed a deep interest and passion for esthetic dentistry. For one of his final cases as a dental student, Dr. Khawand transformed a patients smile, and received an award from the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry. Always a believer in advancing ones training and education, Dr. Khawand attended a one-year General Practice Residency in Brooklyns Previously Lutheran (currently NYU Langone) program. He advanced his training in emergency care, surgical procedures including third molar impacted teeth and implants, Invisalign, cosmetic, and comprehensive full scope general dentistry.
After returning to the DMV area, Dr. Khawand looks forward to bringing the skills he has acquired to provide his patients with the best care possible. Because dentistry is a continuously evolving profession, Dr. Khawand has committed to continuing education to keep himself up to date on the latest innovations in the field.
Outside of work, Dr. Khawand has a very active lifestyle. He enjoys weight training and martial arts and is an avid Ultimate Fighting Championship fan. Other hobbies and pastimes include traveling, spending time with his family and friends, and experiencing the newest restaurants and lounges.
