Dr. Sobia Carter is a board-certified pediatric dentist who strives to create a positive dental experience for every child she treats. Dr. Carter was born and raised in Roanoke, Virginia. She attended the University of Virginia as an Echols Scholar and graduated with a B.A. degree in Cognitive Science. Dr. Carter first moved to Richmond, Virginia to complete a Certificate program in Genetics at the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University. She went on to attend dental school at Virginia Commonwealth University and earned her D.D.S. degree in 2001.

Dr. Carters passion for providing quality dental care to children inspired her to pursue specialty training in pediatric dentistry. At the Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia/University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Carter completed a fellowship in pediatric dentistry. She then moved to Cleveland, Ohio to complete a residency in pediatric dentistry at Rainbow Babies and Childrens Hospital. In 2004, she earned her specialty Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from the Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine. Through her specialty training programs, Dr. Carter received extensive experience in all aspects of pediatric dentistry with a particular emphasis on sedation dentistry and dental care under general anesthesia.

Dr. Carter met her husband, Dr. R.T. Carter, during their first year of dental school. They enjoyed Richmond so much that they moved back after Dr. Carter finished her residency in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Carter worked as an associate at Childrens Dentistry of Richmond for a number of years while her husband, a general dentist, works at a practice nearby. Dr. Carter has three children, Thomas, Carson and Sara, who keep her hopping from one activity to another. When she is not chauffeuring her children around and cheering at childrens sports events, she enjoys reading, cooking and spending quality time with family and friends.

First time at this location. I drove 35 mins so that my child could receive services. Customer service sucks! There are ways to address situation in a respectful and confidential manner. I hope the services that were provided accounts for their customer services. Would not recommend nor will return for future services.

Our daughter has been going to Dr. Carter for a few years now and the experiences have been wonderful every time! We just experienced a dental emergency with our daughter and Dr. Carter was a saint! She was beyond helpful, kind, and informative. Additionally, she met us at her office (way) after hours to provide necessary services. Her demeanor and disposition are unmatched, certainly in such a heightened/traumatic situation. We will continue to visit her practice until we can't!

Wish there was a no star option don't be a pediatric dentist if you get frustrated when a small child is scared or nervous about the dentist

I was welcomed with smiling eyes due to masks being worn. The environment was clean and bright. Nice open waiting area for my active 2 year old. I was a little leary about making an appointment for my 3 children due to not being able to have more than 2 children seen at a time at a different dentistry but I was able to set an appointment for all three. Fast forward to appointment date... We were seen on time, all at once, and the service, care and speed were amazing. They were sent home with care bags with hygiene supplies and age appropriate toys. I rebooked immediately. Best dentist in town.

This place was so nice, everyone who worked with my kids were super gentle and nice! Even my kids loved them, and they also gave a little goodie bag after there appointment with a toothbrush and some little toys ! My kids kept on saying that this place was better than the old one, I'd recommend this place to anyone and everyone!

This practice lied about the medication they were administering to my 6 year pld daughter and then went against our family's parenting practices and forcibly held my daughter down. I would not recommend them to anyone.

Dr. Carter and her staff are beyond patient! My son has chronic health issues and he is very leery of medical offices. But he loves Dr Carter!!! Moreover, he is a difficult case, in that, his permanent molars are in jeopardy of being lost... and Dr Carter has gone above and beyond to try and save his teeth. We experienced unnecessary and expensive extractions from our previous pediatric dentist. Dr Carter does not perform unnecessary procedures/sedation, but only suggests a procedure when absolutely necessary. She gave me all the options and thoughtfully explained what we should expect. She provided me with verbal and written information explaining everything. We are thankful that we found her.

Dr. Carter is hands down the very best in her field if she took adults i would def be in her seat. She is so good with kids and listens to them and shes so passionate and caring. She has done 2 dental procesures for my son and always calls the same day a couple hours later to see how hes doing. Will never go anywhere else. Love her like family. And Bekki too!
