Dr. Rowan graduated from Brigham Young University in 1979 with a B.S. degree in Zoology. He then moved with his family to St. Louis, Missouri for four years where he attended, and graduated from Washington University's School of Dental Medicine in 1983 with a DMD (Doctor of Dental Medicine) degree.
Dr. Rowan thenreceivedfour years of specialized training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at University Hospitalsof Cleveland/Case Western ReserveUniversity School of Dentistry from 1983-1987. While there he was trained in all aspects of oral and maxillofacial surgery, including exodontia (teeth extractions), dental implants, orthognathic surgery (upper and lower jaw surgeries), pathology, trauma, etc.
Dr. Rowan elected to return home to Merced with his family in 1987. He has a wife, five children and four grandchildren. He is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Sugery, the California Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, and the Yosemite Dental Society, where he served as president for two years (1990-1992).
Dr. Mark Rowan was raised in Merced and attended Hoover Junior High and Golden Valley High School. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree and graduated Cum Laude from Brigham Young University. He then attended the UCLA School of Dentistry where he met his wife, Laura. Following their time at UCLA they moved to Boston, Massachusetts where Dr. Mark completed a six year oral & maxillofacial surgery residency at Massachusetts General Hospital. During his time as a resident he also graduated from Harvard Medical School, earning his MD in 2017.
His interests and training include in office IV sedation, wisdom tooth surgery, dental implants, cosmetic chin surgery, corrective jaw surgery, trauma and reconstructive surgery, pediatric surgery, and obstructive sleep apnea. He is on staff at Mercy Medical Center in Merced. He is fluent in Spanish and loves serving the Hispanic community in the Merced area.
Dr. Mark was actively involved in dental implant research during his training. He has authored or coauthored articles in the Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology, and Retrovirology.
As a family, Mark and Laura enjoy traveling, golf, soccer, exploring the outdoors, and visiting new restaurants. Dr. Mark is also actively involved in the G3 Foundation, a humanitarian organization that treats the underserved in the Dominican Republic. They have two children (Callum and Lillian) and an energetic dog named Maverick.

Dr. Rowan is so awesome! You guys, he is so great. The office is clean and comfortable, the staff is incredibly efficient, and Dr. Rowan acted as though he had all the time in the world for me. The staff were friendly, and Dr Rowan was very helpful by taking the time to explain everything in detail. No procedure was necessary, however I would have felt very confident in Dr Rowan should one have been warranted.

Dr. Rowan is a genius surgent, I had three of my broken teeth extracted yesterday as easy as extracting one tooth each time in previous two vists years ago. Was a very smooth experience, I did not believe he was done when he said that's it. Thank you Dr. Rowan.

My daughter had to have surgery before application of braces. Everything went smoothly. Dr. Rowan came out and updated us after surgery. Then wheeled her out to the car, and followed up that evening with a call. Of course we had an issue at pharmacy. Dr. Rowan promptly called them and her prescription was ready within 15 minutes. I appreciated how smooth everything was with the entire team. I am glad I chose this office for my daughter's care.

Thanks for the best dental experience I've ever had! I had a tooth removed and had no pain. Dr Rowan and his team were very professional and friendly and he even personally called me in the evening to check in. Will definitely recommend and use him for any future dental work.
