Dr. Ian R. Dickinson was born in Dallas, Texas, but was raised in the rolling hills of the rural Napa Valley, California. He would often visit family and friends in the Pacific Northwest over the years which lead to him falling in love with the land and its people. He is now grateful to call Portland, Oregon his home. When he is not trying to visit every National Park, he can be found cooking or biking with Pedalpalooza PDX.
His undergraduate studies focused on English and Geology at Washington and Lee University in Virginia, and he received his Doctorate in Dental Medicine degree from Tufts University in Boston, MA. While there he co-founded and acted as secretary and then president for the Tufts Chapter of the Student Professionalism and Ethics association (SPEA). He attended a 1 year Advanced Education in General Dentistry program at University of the Pacific in San Francisco, CA focusing on Special Needs and Hospital dentistry.
Dr. Seth Huish attended high school in Park City, Utah, and received his undergraduate degree at Brigham Young University-Hawaii on the island of Oahu. Dr. Huish completed his dental training at the Oregon Health & Science University and furthered his dental education with post-graduate studies in implantology. He also received continuing education in endodontics, cosmetic dentistry, and orthodontics.
Tiffany is a born and raised native Portlander. Outside of the dental office you can usually find Tiffany attending outdoor concerts or you can often find her meditating to help reground herself. If you were to ask Tiffany what her favorite part about being a Hygienist is she would say,
Heather is the Office Administrator at Roots Dental-Powell. Heather grew up in California and Oregon and is a fundamental part of her team. She assists in billing, insurance, treatment coordination and more! She can usually be found cheerily greeting patients and responding to phone calls. With her dental background experience, she is a great asset to our team and the experience of our patients. Heather has a wonderful way of showing patients how valuable they are to the ever-growing Roots Dental family. If Heather isn't seen at the front desk, she most likely has her nose in a book studying or exploring the great Pacific Northwest.
Alex grew up in Alaska and later on relocated to Oregon. She hopes to return to Alaska one day to enjoy it the way it was meant to be experienced- In nature. Not only is Alex an amazing dental assistant, but she is also an outstanding mother to her wonderful son. Outside of dentistry, you can find Alex doing one of her many hobbies: Baking, cooking, camping, hiking, relaxing and spending time with her family. Alex decided to be a dental assistant to help make everyones experience at the dentist a pleasant one. As a child, she remembers it being intimating. Her main focus is to make every visit to the dentist, a positive one.Her goal is to eventually go back to school to become a dental hygienist.
Tanesha is a local native to Portland. Having been born here she has always wanted to be able to give back to her community, but her number one goal is being an amazing role model for her son and daughter. Taneshas passion is being able to help others and her personality makes everyone feel like they belong. With these amazing skills, she can put all patients at ease knowing that they are in good hands at Roots Dental.

Dr. Kate Cardullo was born and raised in West Virginia, and attended West Virginia University for her undergraduate degree. Wanting to try something new, she moved to Portland to attend dental school at Oregon Health & Science University, where she served as president of the Delta Sigma Delta fraternity and vice president of the Student Patient Assistance Program, a student-lead organization that focused on awarding funding to patients in need. In her free time, she can be found enjoying live music at a concert or curled up on the couch with a good book and her three cats.
Kaycee was born and raised in Oregon, spending her early years in a small farming communityin Eastern Oregon. Her familyeventually relocated to the Portland area when she was 13. Kaycee is very family oriented and spends a lot of her free time with her Mom, sister andnephew.
Kaycee also has a love for children. She serves in the children's ministry at the church she attends and has been doing that for 9 years. Kaycee has a variety of hobbies and interests and is very passionate about learning. Her favorite subject to study is anything historyrelated. Kaycee also has a very playful personality and loves to make people laugh and smile.
Leilaniwas born and raised in Gresham, Oregon, and she currently lives there with her husband, her son, and her three Chihuahuas Rowan, Maven, and Quinton. She loves all things pink, glitter, chihuahuas, and house plants. When she is not working, she can be found enjoying time with her family playing video games, spending time at the Oregon Coast, or volunteering.

Keisha was born and raised in San Jose, California. She moved to Vancouver, Washington when she was 16. She has a daughter and 3 dogs. Graduated from Elite Dental Assisting Academy. She enjoys riding her motorcycle on nice days and enjoys going on hikes.
Baley was born and raised in the Portland area and has lived here her whole life. She was a part of the second graduating class of Mountainside High School. Two weeks later, beginning her career path in dental assisting with the goal of one day becoming a dental hygienist. Outside of work she enjoys sitting in the window of her local Kava shop playing chess.
Growing up in the desert heat of Las Vegas, Nevada, Dr. Hale was looking for a change of climate and scenery. Its not hard to understand why he and his wife, Alisha, fell in love with Oregons forests and diverse landscapes. Relocating here has been a refreshing experience for both of them.In their free time, Dr. Hale and his wife, Alisha, love to camp and explore wherever they find themselves.
Dr. Hale graduated from UNLV School of Dental Medicine after earning his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Brigham Young University. During dental school, he served as Class Vice President and received the Delta Dental Student Leadership Award.
Dr. Hale went on to complete a General Practice Residency at the Baltimore, Maryland Veteran Affairs Medical Center. Through this additional training, Dr. Hale devoted much of his time to root canals, tooth extractions, dental implants, fillings, crowns, and veneers.
It has been a pleasure to fill in for Dr. Steven Miller during the transition following his retirement. We are excited to honor what Dr. Miller has built this practice into and continue to serve the Hollywood District with the highest level of personalized care they deserve.
Dr. Miller received his undergraduate degree from UCLA and thereafter went on to study dentistry at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. After graduating from Tufts, he completed his General Practice Residency at the University of Vermont Medical Center.
In 2018 Dr. Miller made the difficult and emotional decision to retire from the profession that gave him so much. The relationships he made both personally and professionally with patients, staff, colleagues, and members of the Hollywood community will carry on long after his dental career and he hopes to see you at Roots Dental where he is now a patient.

Dr. Jacob Kaufman grew up in Newberg, Oregon. He spent a year in Minnesota where he wrestled for the Golden Gophers before returning home to finish his undergraduate education at Oregon State University. After OSU, Dr. Kaufman earned his DMD at Oregon Health and Science University, where he served as class president. Dr. Kaufman is passionate about making patients feel comfortable in the dental office. His focus is to create a dental home for his patients where they can accomplish their dental goals.
Dr. Kaufman lives near the Roots Dental Office with his Partner Jan, and their two dogs Dillard (after Damian Lillard) & Olive. He loves to get outdoors backpacking and camping. On the weekends youll likely find him at a concert listening to live music in Portland.
Dr. Kaufman enjoys the variety of general dentistry, helping patients achieve oral health, and improving smiles. He is devoted to honing his craft through continuing education and regularly takes CE courses as member of Spear Education. Dr. Kaufman loves providing high quality dental care to his local community.
Aye was born in Thailand and moved to Oregon when she was 13 years old. She is from a large family with 8 siblings. She loves to go on vacation, enjoy the amazing food in Portland and spending time with family and friends. She is very passionate about helping patients achieve their hygiene and overall oral health goals. And being supportive with patients to overcome dental fears or concerns. A quote that Aye likes to go by 'Nothing you wear is more important than your smile'.
Angela was born and raised mostly in Oregon spending a little bit of her childhood in California. Angela is a mother to 4 children that are amazing and her pride and joy. She loves to go hiking and enjoy the outdoors. Angela has a passion for Latin dancing, especially with her husband. She loves to help people and a big believer that self-care is important and everyone deserves to feel good about themselves inside and out.
Melissa was born and raised in St.Helens Oregon. She relocated to central Oregon where she has lived for the past 23 years. She became a mother of 3 fabulous children. She also has a granddaughter who calls her 'Gigi'. Outside of the dental office you can find Malisa cheering for her kids from the sidelines at their sporting events, baking, cooking, shopping, camping and scrapbooking/crafting. Melissa is passionate about dentistry and makes it a priority to make every patient comfortable and have the best dental experience.
Ruben was born and raised in Portland Oregon. He is the second oldest to 3 siblings, two brothers and one sister. Ruben outside of the dental office likes to play soccer and play video games. He got into dentistry and attended Carrington with his cousin as they both became dental assistants. He is excited to grow his knowledge and skills with Dr.Kaufman at Roots Dental.
