ROOT was established in 2013 by Dr. Amit M Patel and now has 7 locations in Dallas/Fort Worth. ROOT is a privately owned, multi practice, dental surgery company. At every location we have a periodontist, which is a dentist who specializes in treating diseases that affect the bones and gums that surround your teeth. Dr. Amit M. Patel, Steven Alspach, Pooria Fallah, Asfia Husain and Kim Sheppard work as a collaborative team with other dental providers in Texas to deliver the highest level of care for patients.
Procedural philosophy - We have a conservative treatment approach and use minimally invasive techniques to save teeth. If we are not able to save your teeth, our periodontists specialize in dental implants that can replace one or multiple teeth. We do this in an anxiety free environment and offer many options for pain management. We have IV sedation, oral sedation and conscious sedation options available.
Technology approach - Our goal is to stay abreast of new technology and we utilize the newest tools and modalities for diagnosis and treatment. Some things you may see during your visit include: CBCT 3-Dimensional imaging system, dental lasers, X-navigation guided implant surgery, dental impression scanners, PRFm, intraoral cameras, and digital xrays for reduced radiation.
The training that Dr. Patel has received has given him a wide range of experience in treating advanced periodontal disease, complicated extractions of teeth, placement of dental implants, bone regenerative procedures, as well as in periodontal plastic surgery/cosmetic procedures.
Dr. Husain is proficient in dental surgical procedures involving bone and soft tissue grafting, dental implant placement, minimally invasive LANAP and other laser procedures, and treating chronic periodontal diseases.
Dr. Fallah received his DDS degree in 2009 and subsequently completed his residency program in Periodontics at New York University College of Dentistry in 2015. He became a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontics in 2016 and has been practicing periodontics in private practice in Dallas since 2015.
Dr. Sheppard has been in private practice since 2004. She takes pride in providing her patients with the highest quality care using the latest technology and using a patient centered approach. In 2005, she co-founded The Northwest Society of Women Dentists, an organization for women who were often also business owners.
Dr. Alspach has received specialized training in treatment of the soft tissues and bone around teeth, as well as placing dental implants. His commitment to excellence has never wavered during the 30+ years hes served the Denton community.
Dr. Fallah received his DDS degree in 2009 and subsequently completed his residency program in Periodontics at New York University College of Dentistry in 2015. He became a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontics in 2016 and has been practicing periodontics in private practice in Dallas since 2015. Dr. Fallah is particularly active in postgraduate education, patient care in private practice, and clinical research in the field of Periodontics. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with friends and family.
Dr. Alspach is a periodontist, a dentist who has received specialized training in treatment of the soft tissues and bone around teeth, as well as placing dental implants. His commitment to excellence in providing periodontal and implant care has never wavered during the 30+ years hes served the Denton community and surrounding areas. Keeping current with the latest advancements in this rapidly changing specialty of dentistry and surrounding himself with superbly capable individuals enable Dr. Alspach to continue this commitment.
Dr. Alspach grew up in North Dallas and attended Austin College in Sherman, Texas where he received his Bachelors degree. He then attended Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas (now Texas A&M dental school) where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. Dr. Alspach then attended the University of Michigan for specialty training in periodontics, where he worked as a clinical instructor for undergraduate dental students and received a Master's degree in Periodontics. His Master's thesis was published in the International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry.
While at Baylor College of Dentistry he received the American Academy of Periodontology student award for excellence. Dr. Alspachs pursuit of excellence led him to become a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. A Diplomate is a periodontist who has made significant achievements beyond the mandatory educational requirements of the specialty and who is certified by the American Board of Periodontology through a rigorous examination process.
Dr. Alspach grew up in North Dallas and has called Denton his home for the past 35 years. He and his wife, Susan, have raised 4 children. In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf, cycling, hiking, and skiing.
Dr. Asfia Husain is a Board Certified periodontist and a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. A Diplomate is a periodontist who has made significant achievements beyond the mandatory educational requirements of the specialty and who is certified by the American Board of Periodontology through a rigorous examination process. Dr. Husain earned her specialty certificate in Periodontics and her Master of Science in Dentistry (MSD) from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, where she was also a part time clinical instructor in the pre-doctoral clinics.
Dr. Husain is proficient in dental surgical procedures involving bone and soft tissue grafting, dental implant placement, minimally invasive LANAP and other laser procedures, and treating chronic periodontal diseases. She also received training in minimally invasive soft tissue grafting techniques and phlebotomy for the use of platelet rich fibrin to incorporate into procedures for enhanced wound healing. Dr. Husain is certified in sedation dentistry allowing her to provide a variety of options to help patients feel relaxed during their visits, including nitrous, oral and IV sedation. She is also LANAP/LAPIP Certified (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure/Laser Assisted Peri-Implantitis Procedure). Asfia is passionate about saving teeth and providing patients with a comfortable experience. Her goal is to always provide the best quality of care and provide patients with options that best suit them!
Dr. Husains passion and research focuses on improving oral health to decrease clinical signs of gingivitis, or gum inflammation, as well as looking at associations between periodontal disease and other systemic medical conditions. She has presented her research nationally. She has also presented several posters on clinical cases involving ridge augmentation, full arch rehabilitation, and soft tissue grafting.
Dr. Husain is a member of several local and national dental societies, including the Southwest Society of Periodontics, Fort Worth Academy of General Dentists, American Academy of Periodontology, Academy of Osseointegration, and Texas Dental Association.
Dr. Husain was born in Fort Worth, TX and is excited to be returning to her hometown after spending several years away from home. She currently lives in DFW. In her free time she enjoys painting (acrylic on canvas), calligraphy, running, traveling, exploring new restaurants, and trying new cuisines!

I was referred to Root Periodontal and had the amazing good fortune to be seen by Dr. Louie. The work that I needed to have done was pretty significant and I went there with a great deal of trepidation. The evaluation and information that I received from Dr. Louie at our initial visit really helped to calm a lot of my concerns. That same quality of care continued during my extensive procedure and follow-up. I can't say enough good things regarding him and the entire team at Root. Everything was first-rate and very patient-centric. If you're in need of periodontal treatment, you won't go wrong by going to Root!

I have been a patient of Dr. Patel's for over 4 years now. I have since moved from the area but still drive in just to have him and his incredible staff maintain my cleanings and maintenance. He has a conservative approach which I appreciate. His bedside manner is compassionate and patient. I recommend him hands down. I was originally referred to another periodontist but didn't think it was a fit. I am so grateful I didn't go with first choice and found Dr. Patel as well as the entire staff at Root.

What can I say? We don't put "go to the dentist," on our bucket list. Ha. I'm not saying put a visit to Root Peridontal on your list, but if you have to hanit just doesn't get better than Root. Everyone there is so cheerful, professional, and efficient. Dr. Sheppard is very gentle and sweet, and her work has been the best in my 64 years of dental visits. In fact I grew up in a family of doctors and dentists in Tennessee. My second cousin was like an Uncle and a great dentist in growing up, and another an orthodontist. So I feel like I'm a pretty good judge. I would give 10 stars if I could.

This is not merely to submit a review, but also to publicly thank Dr. Patel for his skill and compassion. I was referred to him when my regular dentist discovered a problem that she said was really difficult and therefore she wanted me to go specifically to him. Dr. Patel not only enjoys a challenge, but delights in his ability to use his skills to help others. In addition, he does everything he can to discuss options and provide the most effective and financially reasonable solution to all issues. His partnering with my dentist showed a sincere effort (on both their parts) to provide the best possible care for me. His entire staff is most pleasant and helpful. Therefore, I not only strongly recommend Dr. Patel, I wish also to publicly thank him for how he has treated me.

Dr. Patel & staff (especially Marisol & Kim) are amazing. They are professional, friendly, patient and caring. They always give you the time you need without rushing you through. I was so comfortable with all the dental work he performed on me. My daughter had a very pleasant experience with her wisdom teeth surgery too. I highly recommend Dr. Patel!

Dr Patel and his staff are the friendliest group of people and I love coming to my appointments just to see their smiling faces. Not to mention that I had my first implant done on a front tooth right on my smile line and I had heard horror story's from friends so I was just a tad nervous but Dr Patel was so gentle and very informative of all he was going to do. The day of my procedure was so easy! There was no pain during or after the implant was placed. The after care has been wonderful and I would highly recommend Dr Patel to anyone who's needing a Periodontist. It's so refreshing to come to an office full of people that love their jobs!

Dr Patel is amazing! The entire office staff has been very supportive. I was told by another dentist that implants would be almost impossible due to my jaw opening being so restricted. Dr Patel took on the challenge and was able to place two implants giving me great chewing motion again.

I am so thankful for Dr. Patel. His expertise, professionalism and caring ensures you are in good hands. His staff is very friendly and helpful. I was very nervous and scared with my crown lengthening procedure. The procedure was totally pain free and stress free. I never felt any pain even during healing time. I absolutely recommend Dr. Patel to everyone!

Dr. Patel and his entire team are BEYOND Amazing. I was referred to Root by my dentist. My first visit there, at a dental office, was really wonderful. From the welcoming on the board, to all the staff, to the intake forms, which includes actually getting to know you as a person. Not just a "which tooth, and what needs to be done to fix it". I can't say enough wonderful things about every single person at this office. They are all so genuine, welcoming and caring. I was so impressed, and Dr. Patel really is comforting, willing to answer any and all questions, and takes his time with every patient. If there was a way to give a higher than 5 review, I would have 100% given it. I highly recommend Root, without question.
