ROOT was established in 2013 by Dr. Amit M Patel and now has 7 locations in Dallas/Fort Worth. ROOT is a privately owned, multi practice, dental surgery company. At every location we have a periodontist, which is a dentist who specializes in treating diseases that affect the bones and gums that surround your teeth. Dr. Amit M. Patel, Steven Alspach, Pooria Fallah, Asfia Husain and Kim Sheppard work as a collaborative team with other dental providers in Texas to deliver the highest level of care for patients.
Procedural philosophy - We have a conservative treatment approach and use minimally invasive techniques to save teeth. If we are not able to save your teeth, our periodontists specialize in dental implants that can replace one or multiple teeth. We do this in an anxiety free environment and offer many options for pain management. We have IV sedation, oral sedation and conscious sedation options available.
Technology approach - Our goal is to stay abreast of new technology and we utilize the newest tools and modalities for diagnosis and treatment. Some things you may see during your visit include: CBCT 3-Dimensional imaging system, dental lasers, X-navigation guided implant surgery, dental impression scanners, PRFm, intraoral cameras, and digital xrays for reduced radiation.
The training that Dr. Patel has received has given him a wide range of experience in treating advanced periodontal disease, complicated extractions of teeth, placement of dental implants, bone regenerative procedures, as well as in periodontal plastic surgery/cosmetic procedures.
Dr. Husain is proficient in dental surgical procedures involving bone and soft tissue grafting, dental implant placement, minimally invasive LANAP and other laser procedures, and treating chronic periodontal diseases.
Dr. Fallah received his DDS degree in 2009 and subsequently completed his residency program in Periodontics at New York University College of Dentistry in 2015. He became a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontics in 2016 and has been practicing periodontics in private practice in Dallas since 2015.
Dr. Sheppard has been in private practice since 2004. She takes pride in providing her patients with the highest quality care using the latest technology and using a patient centered approach. In 2005, she co-founded The Northwest Society of Women Dentists, an organization for women who were often also business owners.

Dr. Fallah received his DDS degree in 2009 and subsequently completed his residency program in Periodontics at New York University College of Dentistry in 2015. He became a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontics in 2016 and has been practicing periodontics in private practice in Dallas since 2015. Dr. Fallah is particularly active in postgraduate education, patient care in private practice, and clinical research in the field of Periodontics. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with friends and family.
Dr. Alspach is a periodontist, a dentist who has received specialized training in treatment of the soft tissues and bone around teeth, as well as placing dental implants. His commitment to excellence in providing periodontal and implant care has never wavered during the 30+ years hes served the Denton community and surrounding areas. Keeping current with the latest advancements in this rapidly changing specialty of dentistry and surrounding himself with superbly capable individuals enable Dr. Alspach to continue this commitment.
Dr. Alspach grew up in North Dallas and attended Austin College in Sherman, Texas where he received his Bachelors degree. He then attended Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas (now Texas A&M dental school) where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. Dr. Alspach then attended the University of Michigan for specialty training in periodontics, where he worked as a clinical instructor for undergraduate dental students and received a Master's degree in Periodontics. His Master's thesis was published in the International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry.
While at Baylor College of Dentistry he received the American Academy of Periodontology student award for excellence. Dr. Alspachs pursuit of excellence led him to become a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. A Diplomate is a periodontist who has made significant achievements beyond the mandatory educational requirements of the specialty and who is certified by the American Board of Periodontology through a rigorous examination process.
Dr. Alspach grew up in North Dallas and has called Denton his home for the past 35 years. He and his wife, Susan, have raised 4 children. In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf, cycling, hiking, and skiing.
Dr. Asfia Husain is a Board Certified periodontist and a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. A Diplomate is a periodontist who has made significant achievements beyond the mandatory educational requirements of the specialty and who is certified by the American Board of Periodontology through a rigorous examination process. Dr. Husain earned her specialty certificate in Periodontics and her Master of Science in Dentistry (MSD) from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, where she was also a part time clinical instructor in the pre-doctoral clinics.
Dr. Husain is proficient in dental surgical procedures involving bone and soft tissue grafting, dental implant placement, minimally invasive LANAP and other laser procedures, and treating chronic periodontal diseases. She also received training in minimally invasive soft tissue grafting techniques and phlebotomy for the use of platelet rich fibrin to incorporate into procedures for enhanced wound healing. Dr. Husain is certified in sedation dentistry allowing her to provide a variety of options to help patients feel relaxed during their visits, including nitrous, oral and IV sedation. She is also LANAP/LAPIP Certified (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure/Laser Assisted Peri-Implantitis Procedure). Asfia is passionate about saving teeth and providing patients with a comfortable experience. Her goal is to always provide the best quality of care and provide patients with options that best suit them!
Dr. Husains passion and research focuses on improving oral health to decrease clinical signs of gingivitis, or gum inflammation, as well as looking at associations between periodontal disease and other systemic medical conditions. She has presented her research nationally. She has also presented several posters on clinical cases involving ridge augmentation, full arch rehabilitation, and soft tissue grafting.
Dr. Husain is a member of several local and national dental societies, including the Southwest Society of Periodontics, Fort Worth Academy of General Dentists, American Academy of Periodontology, Academy of Osseointegration, and Texas Dental Association.
Dr. Husain was born in Fort Worth, TX and is excited to be returning to her hometown after spending several years away from home. She currently lives in DFW. In her free time she enjoys painting (acrylic on canvas), calligraphy, running, traveling, exploring new restaurants, and trying new cuisines!
