Born and raised in Ohio, Dr. Root says he has always loved the biological sciences and enjoys working with people, so choosing dentistry was natural for him. By the time he was in high school, playing football and baseball, Dr. Root was already in the journey to pursue his career in dental sciences.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and then moved to Florida, where he worked as a research assistant and high school science teacher before pursuing his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry at the University of Florida. During this time, his wife stayed in Vero Beach and worked to support him, and when he graduated in 1989, he returned to Vero Beach to be with her and start his dental practice. Since then, he has actively pursued continuing post-doctoral education, mastering the newest methods and technologies in the field of cosmetic dentistry. He is a graduate of four levels of advanced dental education at the Pankey Institute in Key Biscayne, and he has also studied reconstructive dentistry at Spear Education, the University of Florida, and Gordon Christensen seminars.

Dr. Root is a professional member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Academy of General Dentistry, American Dental Association, Florida Dental Association, and Treasure Coast Dental Society. He is also a member of the Christian Dental Society, whose mission is to offer dental relief to those in need around the world.

Every member of our team of hand-picked professionals shares a deep commitment to strive for excellence in each and every thing that we do, with every single patient, every single day, says Dr. Root. Our treatment philosophy is the core of what we do, and when you experience this level of engagement with every team member, its really an inspiration.

Meeting so many wonderful people from so many interesting and varied backgrounds has been such a benefit to me in my profession, he continues. I have learned that developing a relationship with my patients has been the key to our practices success. It is so rewarding when you have the sense of trust between patient and doctor that we have developed. This allows me to give my patients beautiful smiles, comfortable chewing, and function that will last for years.

We believe in preventative dentistry, and we educate our patient on the causes of and solutions to their dental problems. Our hygienists are gentle, friendly, and experienced professionals. We feel strongly about the fact that periodontal health, or the health of the gums, is as important as tooth health, and our patient education and treatment planning reflect that.

Whenever possible, Dr. Root says, I try to develop a treatment plan to preserve the patients natural teeth. I offer treatment choices and educate my patients, so they can then make a treatment choice that fits them best personally. Until a sense of trust has been developed, there really is no doctor/patient relationship. Once our patients realize that we are in it for them and that we offer treatment plans that are in their best interest, we have a relationship where we can work as a team and truly improve their oral health.

We feel that aesthetics is a personal issue, said Dr. Root. We help our patients achieve any level of dental aesthetics that they choose. We work with some of the best dental labs in the country and strive for excellence in every procedure.

In addition, function in dentistry is essential. I have had extensive training in occlusion, or how the teeth fit together in the bite, at the Pankey Institute and the University of Florida. I also work with specialists who are my colleagues, and we use interdisciplinary dentistry to rehabilitate the chewing function. In many cases, patients who have suffered dysfunctional chewing and pain for years are able to experience comfortable function again.

Dr. Root has been happily married since 1977, and his wife is a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator. Their daughter is a recent graduate of the University of Alabama College of Law. They are a close family and enjoy spending time together with their Great Dane, their three kitties, and their friends.

When talking about his Vero Beach home, Dr. Root said, My wife and I have lived in Vero Beach since we married. Our daughter was born and raised and went to school here, graduating from Vero Beach High School. We love the community. It is friendly and safe, and there is a lot to do. Its a small enough town that you see people you know just about anywhere you go. There is a true sense of community spirit here in Vero Beach. We like to think this sense of family is also reflected in the way we treat patients here at Root Dental.

Dedicated to staying active and being of service, Dr. Root helps the community and international service projects through Rotary Club. He also works locally, helping to choose scholarship recipients for our Rotary Club and working with our island cleanup and our Oyster Bed/Sea Grass reclamation project, called RISSA, for the Indian River Lagoon. He was also one of the founders of the major fundraiser for Rotary Club, which has now become a major, annual event in Vero Beach, called the Florida Craft Brew and Wingfest.

In addition, Dr. Root is a past president, active member, and current Director of International Services for the Rotary Club of Vero Beach Sunrise. He is also an immediate past board member of the Vero Beach Hundred Club, an organization that financially supports the families of police officers and firefighters in times of need.

On the international level, Dr. Root leads a group of Rotarian dentists down to the Dominican Republic every fall to treat impoverished Dominicans. In the spring he also leads a group from Rotary Club to the Dominican Republic to help build aqueducts and work on literacy programs for the children.

Joli pronounced Yoli is the first generation in her family to be raised in the United States. Her parents immigrated here from Poland and were thrilled to have them here. She and her husband moved to Florida and Joli joined the Root Dental team in 1998. She began her career with us as a certified dental assistant and is now the chief office administrator. One of the most satisfying parts of her job is finding solutions for patients. She also holds a BS in Special Education and dedicates time to mentoring children in the community. When shes not working, Joli and her husband enjoy nature and travel, taking day trips to the beach, area springs, and state parks. For longer vacations, they love going to the Carolinas, Utah, and seeing extended family in Chicago. Joli and her husband are enjoying their empty nest years and all the activities they now get to do.

Tina was born in Vero Beach but was raised on the gulf coast of Mississippi. She returned to Indian River County as a young adult. She has served Dr. Root and his patients since she became a Certified Dental Assistant in 2003. When asked what she loves about her job, Tina said, The older we get, the quality of our living revolves around fellowshipping with others over meals. Helping people restore their chewing function is important to me. I like to create a comfortable experience when a patient is in a dental chair. Her areas of certification include dental radiography, expanded functions, biomedical waste control, and CPR. As Dr. Roots lead assistant, Tina manages clinical functions: she reviews and authenticates dental charts for optimal patient care, tracks lab cases, and orders supplies. She loves the bond that develops with patients and looks forward to caring for you and your specific needs. As the proud mother of two adopted children, she enjoys giving back to the community whenever she can. In her free time, she loves driving her 4 wheel drive side by side in the woods with her children, sunbathing on her stand up paddle board, and service work with her friends.

Nicole is a Registered Dental Hygienist and has been with Root Dental since 2012. She is also a wife, mother of three, certified stand-up paddle board instructor, Special Olympics surf and SUP coach, and certified yoga instructor with a passion for working with people (Whew!) Originally from New Jersey, she has lived in Florida for more than 14 years. I have been fortunate to be a member of the Root Dental Team since 2012. I thoroughly enjoy caring for people and helping them find ways to care for themselves. Within this practice, I have been able to build many personal and professional relationships with my patients and coworkers. Because of this, I am one of those people who can say I love my job!

Nancy is our dental hygienist. She has been working as a hygienist for the past 31 years and has proven her proficiency in the role. She grew up in Vero Beach, Florida. When she is off duty, Nancy loves to crochet and refinish furniture. She also loves to spend time with her grandchildren when she is free.

Jessica has been working as our Dental Assistant since 2008. She has lived in Sebastian, FL, all her life. Although she has years of experience, she considers Root Dental her favorite office to work at. Besides her career interests, she loves to exercise, go to the beach, and watch movies with her daughter.

Sharlene is our Business Administrator. She established her presence for the last 34 years in the dental field, finance, and insurance with proven records. She moved to Florida in January 2020 from New Jersey. Sharlene is a massage therapist as well. She has three sons, and when she is off duty, she likes to enjoy swimming at the beach and being with her family.

I'm new to the area and had some heavy duty tooth pain. Root Dental got me in right away and quickly arranged my next step with the Specialist. Very friendly, accommodating staff. Dr. Root and his dental assistant clearly explained everything that was going on and what my options would likely be. I would highly recommend this office!

I've been to lots of dentists in my 60+ years. This dentist and office are superior. The exam was extensive and complete. I have not yet had a cleaning, but the first visit was 5 stars!!! Update - cleanings have been outstanding. This is the best dentist And hygienist I've been to in 40+ years.

Dr. Root has been my dentist for over 15 years. I have never had a dental emergency because I have had such great dental care! Dr. Root lets me know if we should take care of an issue immediately or just watch an area for possible problems in the future! My hygienist, Nicole, is the best! She helps me with my home hygiene. She lets me know if I start missing a specific area. I love going to the dentist at Dr Root's office. Everyone is so friendly. It is like visiting your best friend!

Dr. Root and his Staff were great from the start of the making of the appointment. Megan, the receptionist, actually answers the phone and emails when she says she is going to email. The Service is impeccable and the Dental technician, Tina, prior to Dr. Root's examination was excellent and as friendly as everyone else. Dr. Root's examination was the most thorough I have had and he reviewed every single tooth. I am looking forward to my return next week for my cleaning and have already recommended him and his Team to two others.

Absolutely amazing! The best experience I've ever had with a dentist. Dr. Root is upfront and straight to the point, and lays out all your options. Bedside manners are flawless always checking if you are okay during a procedure, and above all he is very informative. His staff is just as amazing, so kind and caring. They walk you through everything step by step while also giving good information and advice on how to better your dental hygiene. As well as the lovely ladies up front, always pleasant. Everyone there really has your best interest at heart. I recommend them 1000 percent.

Very clean office but feel the office manager is very pushy and rude. I also felt like they were very quick to push me to get more work done then needed. I went and got second opinion and was much happier. Dr. Root was nice and on time but I will not go back.
