Dr. Kolodziej was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and earned his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Pittsburgh. He remained in Pittsburgh to attend the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine where he received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 1996. After receiving his D.M.D., he elected to pursue advanced education in general dentistry and served as a general practice resident at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Pittsburgh. After completing his G.P.R. he was accepted as a graduate resident in the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. His orthodontic research was in the field of craniofacial growth and the manuscript from that work was published in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. Prior to practicing at his current locations, Dr. Kolodziej maintained orthodontic offices in Johnstown and Altoona, Pennsylvania. He moved to Lakewood, Ohio in 2001 to provide braces, Invisalign and other orthodontic treatmentsto the residents of his new hometown as well asRocky River, Westlake, Cleveland, Brooklyn, Parma, Seven Hills and other nearby communities.
Currently, Dr. Kolodziej is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics (Board Certified), a distinction only achieved by approximately 1 in 3 orthodontists. Additionally, he is an active member of the American Association of Orthodontists, Great Lakes Association of Orthodontists and the Ohio Dental Association. He has lectured at numerous venues and has presented several continuing education courses for other doctors through the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. For many years he has served as a volunteer provider for Ohio Dental Options and Smiles Change Lives which are programs designed to facilitate necessary dental care for underprivileged individuals.
In addition to conventional orthodontic treatment, Dr. Kolodziej offers treatment using the Invisalign appliance system, and is certified as an Invisalign orthodontist. As alternatives to stainless steel braces, he offers gold and ceramic appliances as well. Other orthodontic services such as treatments combined with orthognathic surgery (jaw surgery), laser procedures and Botox injection are offered when indicated. Early treatment (Phase 1) is routinely provided in those cases where early interception is needed to prevent complications, but whenever possible he prefers to defer treatment until most of the permanent teeth are erupted.
The doctor is often asked how to pronounce his name. For those who might be curious, it is pronounced Ko-L-Gee, which is a Polish name meaning maker of wheels. Outside of the office Dr. Kolodziej also works as a consultant to a major insurance company and has authored a comprehensive insurance policy that was implemented to comply with the Affordable Care Act. He and his wife live in Lakewood and enjoy boating on Lake Erie and visits to the Lake Erie Islands. Some little known facts about the doctor: he has been the captain of a rec-league volleyball team since 2009, he loves to sing and play piano and sang live on a pregame show for Superbowl XXX in Pittsburgh, he ran his first marathon in 2014 and is always juggling several DIY projects at home and in the office.

UPDATE 9/15/2022 I received braces and care from Dr. Kolodziej and his staff. I had an injury that affected my jaw and Dr. Kolodziej recommended braces for me. The process was not as bad as I thought it would be and they came off faster than expected. Your mileage may vary. I am happy to say that my injury has gotten to the point where I am no longer in pain and this is directly as a result from the braces. The offices, Lakewood and Brooklyn, are clean and up to date. I have nothing negative to report and have recommended Dr. Kolodziej to friends and family. Dr. Kolodziej and his staff were beyond professional. He was patient, and understanding regarding my sons complex problem with his teeth. He listened intently to the issues my son was having and quickly came up with a plan to solve the problem. My son was nervous at first, but soon at ease due to Dr Kolodziej's tact, kindness, and manner. Very clean and updated facility. See you next time! Thanks!

Hi I have not been yet my daughter is 4 and she needs work done she has a tooth that is badly decayed and we went to a place and they made me feel absolutely horrible and I know I'm her mother I already feel bad enough that it has gotten this far but with my mental health and with COVID my agoraphobia came back and it's my fault she has this problem and I don't want to hurt her any further I am terrified but I am trying to put aside my own fears I just wanted to know if possible do you deal with this situation would you be able to help her and make her feel safe and comfortable the other guy we went to was so rough and just mean to us and kept calling her fat and that I was failing at being a mom can you help us

I am writing this review to share great praise for Dr. Kolodziej and his staff, and to express that I am absolutely thrilled with the results achieved with my braces! Throughout the entire treatment plan, I felt that Dr. Kolodziej and his staff were supportive, informative and reassuring. As a mature adult, I spent several years thinking over what - for me- was a big decision. My consult with Dr. Kolodziej was realistic and inspiring; it all felt right. I greatly appreciate that during each appointment, Dr. Kolodziej took time to address any concerns and provided encouraging updates. I was amazed by the technology behind the braces I wore and pleased by the look of my new smile! There is an old saying: "When you smile at the world, the world smiles back" - and yes, I find myself smiling a lot.... I highly recommend Dr. Kolodziej and his staff; they will be there for you each step of the way.

Dr. Kolodziej has treated all three of my kids over the past 10 years for both braces and reconstruction needed after my daughter's bike accident. He is an amazing Orthodontist and his staff is excellent to work with, always friendly and accommodating. Both offices offer a clean, modern environment and their availability and locations make it very convenient to schedule appointments where & when we need them. I really appreciate all he has done for us over the years and highly recommend him!

Dr. Kolodziej did my braces for me when I was in high school and I had the best dental experience with him and his staff! Everyone was very kind and comforting, as well as communicated everything to me perfectly. I went back 7 years later to shadow Dr. Kolodziej and he and his staff were just as kind and positive as I remembered! I highly recommend Dr. Kolodziej; his practice is so welcoming and positive, and I've truly never had a better experience in any medical setting!

God bless our doctors!! i called dr kolodziej at 630 pm on a friday night Because my nine-year-old daughter was in tears from a headache, He said to bring her in right then and there I was shocked that a doctor would be willing to see a patient at 7 PM on a Friday night!! He took care of the problem and my daughters head didn't hurt again after that!! And this was the second week of kovit19 pandemic, To just say thank you it's simply not enough he was by all means mine and my daughters hero that day...

I've had many years to research and pick out the right Orthodontist. I cannot be more pleased with my choice of Dr. Kolodziej and his staff. As a 35-year-old, I've wanted braces for decades but kept dragging my feet. I read Dr. Kolodziej's reviews and decided to setup a consultation. From the first visit to his office and meeting his staff, I knew I was in good hands. His staff made me feel very welcome and provided answers to all my questions. Dr. Kolodziej reviewed my treatment options with me and made all decisions with my full awareness and approval. I appreciated his openness and giving me different options that I would be comfortable with. Sitting in the office, I was able to observe how his staff worked with many of the kids that come in for treatment and I can say, without a doubt, that if my daughter ever needs treatment, I will 100% take her to Dr. Kolodziej and his staff. My braces were taken off last week and I cannot be more pleased!

I went to Dr. Kolodziej for Botox and I could not have had a better experience!! The office was so clean, and the staff was exceptionally professional. This was my second time having botox injections, and I will definitely be sticking with Dr. K for my future appointments. He thoroughly examined the muscles in my face during a consultation and made sure that I was receiving the correct amount for my personal needs. (my previous doctor did not do any prior examination or provide me with the accurate information regarding the units I had receive). Afterwards, Dr. Kolodziej followed up with me to make sure I was happy with my results and that everything was settling in just fine! 6 months later I still am so happy with the outcome. If my kids ever needs braces, I will 100% be coming to Dr. K!!! I highly recommend him for all orthodontist care and facial procedures! Thank you so much Dr!!!!
