I have been a practicing dentist for 46amazing years. My goal throughout the years has always been to make people feel good about themselves. I love dentistry and feel that it is the perfect fit for me professionally. I am detail-orientated and love the ability to incorporate the many sciences that are required to provide phenomenal dental care. I would use my favorite acronym to represent my dedication: it is ASK, which stands for Always Seeking Knowledge. I love to learn! My passion, both professionally and personally, is knowledge. In dentistry, my dedication to continuing education allows me to provide the best treatments possible. I have also been accused of perfectionism. Perfect is hard to achieve; however excellence is always the goal. So the only perfect person to ever live was Jesus Christ.

My studies have always taken a priority. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in the double majors of Biology and Chemistry from the University of Tennessee in 1973. I next went to the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry, where I received my Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1976. Through it all, I found myself continually excited by the idea of providing excellent dental care.

I feel that in many ways my education picked up when I finished my formal schooling. I have put over 5000 hours into my continuing education. I am known as a Continuing Education Junkie. If I can learn something to provide a higher level of care, I am on board. I have been trained in-depth across all disciplines of dentistry. I have also been honored with the Tennessee Dental Association ACE Award and am a Masterof the Academy of General Dentistry.

My goal is to provide comprehensive dental care while paying special attention to each individual's needs. I try toalways be on the cutting edge of the newest technologies and techniques, and I consider myself an early adapter. My office has been equipped with electric handpieces since 1997 and digital radiography since 2000. I have provided incredible care by using cutting-edge technology to all of my patients and even multiple generations in some families.

We now have the Planmeca extraoral panoramic digital 3D Xray system. We have recently incorporated Itero to be able to take impressions digitally. that means no goop, gag, bad taste; just better all the way around.

I believe that this has happened because I value the patient beyond the teeth and jawline. I am always happy to have a conversation while sharing and listening to all that my patients have to say. I value their opinions and work to make them each feel valued as the important person they are. That is also what makes dentistry such a great field. It makes people feel more self-worth. Through my work, I can help people feel listened to in the office, and when they leave, they are brimming with confidence from the new smile we have achieved together.

The Selmer community is phenomenal. I am so thankful to them for allowing me to do what I love professionally. I look forward to every opportunity I have to give back and am involved in numerous social organizations, including:

I grew up in Middle Tennessee, in what we called the Country Suburbs of Nashville. I met my beautiful wife during my sophomore year of college, and we are now celebrating 48 years and counting of married bliss. She has been my rock. During dental school, I joined the Air Force, and we were blessed with our first son, Rob. I left the military to be closer to home and have lived in the same house since 1979. During that time, we had another child, Jon. Both our sons are happily married, and we have five incredible grandchildren. You can find their photographs decorating my office.

I am big on bicycle riding, gardening, music, photography, and my church. I am known for my bicycle, and I'm sometimes referred to as that crazy bicycle rider. I love biking to work. I also have a green thumb. Some of my houseplants are 35 years old. One of my points of pride at the office is our awesome Japanese Maple Tree, which is a true, four-season sensation. I have been a serious amateur photographer since I was eight. I helped a great group start a rockabilly festival, called Rockabilly Revival. I am the proud father of two sons, Rob and Jon. Rob has worked his way up the corporate ladder through several corporations, he is currently a product manager for Autozone at the corporate headquarters in Memphis, Tennessee. Jon attended seminary at Southeastern Theological Baptist Seminary in Wake Forest, NC. He is now associate pastor in Rock Hill South Carolina. He also has a couple of gold records with his name on their covers, from his time with Josh Turner on the road.Jon is married to Lacey and they are happily living in South Carolina.with their little girl. he also has started a podcast called Through the word which you can access on Apple Podcast or through their church media.http://www.eastviewonline.org

Rob and our daughter in law, Angela, have 4 children, Maddie, Jackson, Natalie, and Mallory. We enjoy spendng a lot of time with our precious grandchildren! Rob is Proud to work for Corporate Autozone in Memphis, TN.

Ashley is happily married. She has two wonderful children, a Weimaraner, and a English Springer Spaniel. Ashley loves spending as much time as possible with her family. She is also very active in her church and enjoys boating and vacationing.

Kyle has been in the field of emergency medicine and medical documentation for 5 years. He is very excited to start his career in dentistry. Kyles passion for serving and helping others has led him to a position here at Selmer Smiles. He enjoys spending time with friends and family. Kyle also likes to vacation and travel and is an avid sports fan. Patients receive bonus points from Kyle if they support the Volunteers, Grizzlies and Yankees. He looks forward to serving and assisting his hometown of Selmer, TN.

Julie first discovered her love for dentistry in 1992 while she was a student at McNairy County High School. She was given the great opportunity to shadow at Dr. Bells office and did so well that we gladly hired her full-time assistant in 1994. Julie has great personal skills and works very hard to make each patient feel comfortable and at ease. She is currently a Registered Dental Assistant, holding a state of Tennessee License in Radiology, Coronal Polishing, Nitrous Monitoring, and Expanded Functions. Julie assists Dr. Bell at chairside and is known as the lab queen around the office. She is a real team player and can even be found up in the front office helping out at times.

Julie enjoys spending her free time with her family. She has three children, 2 grandchildren, and cat named Roadie. She also likes to go antiquing, especially when there are old cars, such as her 1957 Ford Fairlane, are found.

Tammy was hooked on dentistry from her first day at Dr. Bells office, when she was still a student at McNairy County High School. She began working part-time in 1981, while attending school to become a dental hygienist, and gladly joined our team full-time in 1989. She is responsible for providing comprehensive oral hygiene care and educating patients to make good progress during treatments. Tammy understands all about the anxieties people bring with them to the dentist. She takes great care to relax and comfort each patient by providing gentle and thorough cleanings. Patients find no reason to fear Tammys work; in fact, they often come to enjoy and look forward to their visits.

Shandal has been a Registered Dental Hygienist for 16 years. She is also certified in the administration of Nitrous Oxide. Shandals smiling face and bubbly personality helps her patients feel comfortable so that their experience with dental treatment is an enjoyable one. Children always seem to gravitate toward her. Pink is her all time favorite color and by the time you leave her operatory it will also be yours. she is also a big Tennessee Vols Fan.and her favorite color is orange.

Amanda has been a Registered Dental Hygienist for 30 years. She is also certified in Local Anesthesia and administration of Nitrous Oxide. Helping her patients connect their Dental Health with Total Body Health is her passion. Making her patients feel comfortable and at ease is one of her specialties.

My favorite dentist by far.. He fixed a cavity in the front of a tooth, I had very little spare money at the time, he told me it might last 6 weeks, 6 months would be amazing. It gave me time to get my money together.. The filling lasted for about 10 years before chipping bad enough to have to fix again... same case.. and root canal would be needed.. Second one is still holding many years later.. I'll go nowhere else until I have no choice..

I love the entire staff at Dr.Bells office. They are all sweet, caring and they don't make me feel like an idiot when I ask stupid questions. I always feel right at home. One visit is all it took for me to become a dedicated patient. Thank you all so much for caring.

I've been going to this dentist office since I can remember. I moved away in 2001 and still make the trip. My most recent trip was for a grind/snore guard. I am happy to say that my snoring has completely stopped (Wife Verified!) The team at Selmer Smiles is very friendly and attentive to my needs. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for dental care in the area and abroad.
