Originally established in 1989 by Dr. James H. Hudson R., Rome Smiles has been a part of the dental community in Rome, Georgia for over 30 years! Our practice operates on the principle that everyone we see is treated like family. From how we speak to you and how long you wait on us to what options are available to meet your needs, we treat you as we would want to be treated. We treat you like family.
Dr. Scott Scharnhorst, DDS received his dental degree with honors graduating Cum Laude from The Ohio State College of Dentistry in 2012. Originally from Idaho, he found his way to Rome, GA through his wife, Carol, who was born and raised in Chattanooga, TN.
Dr. Scharnhorst, DDS strives to be a dentist who listens, is gentle, and provide the best dental care possible. His favorite procedures include cosmetic bonding, endodontics (root canals), crowns & bridges, extractions, and more. He has made it a point to learn specialty procedures through continuing education which allows him to offer you a wide range of dental procedures, right here in our office.
When he is not at the office Dr. Scharnhorst is likely spending time with his family, which he considers his greatest accomplishment. He and his wife, Carol, are the parents of five wonderful children. He also enjoys woodworking.

Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. Hats off to Carlee the hygienist and Dr.Scott. Both made me feel at ease and explained every little detail to me. Never did I feel rush. I totally recommend this office to anyone.

I started going to Dr. Hudson when I was in college from my PawPaw's recommendation. And now that he is mostly retired I usually see Dr. Scharnhorst who does a great job of checking out my teeth. I love going to the dentist so much and I think the people are the reason! I look forward to seeing Amy, my hygienist, who does a great job of cleaning my teeth, but I also enjoy hearing about her recent travels. I have referred several of my coworkers to the office. They think it's so funny that I enjoy going to the dentist so much.

I tried before two of the best rated Dental providers in Rome and none of them met my expectations. I then switched to Rome Smiles, and from all the angles they are the best Dental practice in Rome. If you hate going to the dentist then you are going to the wrong dentist. Nobody likes to get drilled and filled but Dr. Hudson and Dr. Sharnhorst are both gentle, calm, and very professional. Whether you are getting your teeth cleaned by or getting something more extensive you will be pleased with your treatment. The front office staff is warm and welcoming and start putting you at ease as soon as you walk in the front door. My wife and I have going to this office since we moved here 4 years ago and we are extremely happy we picked this practice. Always top notch treatment and service. Update 9/16/2021: I have been going to Rome Smiles for 6 years now since we moved here from Maryland. Sadly, Dr. Hudson had to retire but he has left the practice in excellent hands and you may still see him around the office if he needs to fill in while one of the current doctors needs to be off. The service and care offered are still all outstanding. Many innovations have been made over the past 6 years to really bring it into the cutting edge of dentistry. X-rays are electronic and are able to be immediately viewed. If you need a crown, they now have a scanner that scans you tooth in 3D and even captures the color of the tooth so a crown can be tooled on-site while you wait. After your tooth is contoured, the tooth is rescanned, so the tooling shapes both the exterior of the crown as well as the stub it will mount to for a perfect fit. No more of those uncomfortable dental impressions. A new dentist and additional staff have been added. This insures that they can not only accommodate more patients but avoid wait times (which I have never experienced in all the time I have been using this practice). I met the new dentist this week during a routine cleaning and she is energetic and attentive. Both doctors are are both excellent. The entire staff are all friendly, competent, and provide amazing support to patients.
