We welcome you with open arms to our practice and look forward to caring for you.

Rocklin (Rocky) Alling, DDS, has literally spent his entire life in the world of oral surgery. He was born at US Army Hospital in Stuttgart, West Germany, where his father, a world-renowned oral surgeon, was stationed. Like many service families, Dr. Alling lived all over the United States before entering Indiana University and then the Indiana School of Dentistry. Before deciding upon dentistry and ultimately on oral surgery, Dr. Alling considered attending law school. However, those formative years shadowing his father on trauma calls to hospitals, and even on adventures to Alcatraz island to treat prisoners there, were so full of positive energy, gratification, and appeal that he had no choice but to embrace the dynamic but familiar path of his father. To this day, Dr. Alling truly believes that his job is the very best job, that he is blessed to serve his patients, and that if you make your career your hobby, you never have to work a day in your life!

Dr. Alling served his country by practicing oral surgery in the US Army, stationed for three years in Germany. After his tour of duty, he went into private practice for many years with his beloved father. During that time, Dr. Alling wrote many professional articles published in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Oral and Maxillofacial Clinics of North America. Additionally, he co-edited the textbook, Impacted Teeth, that covers the etiology, pathology, anatomy, and physiology of the diagnosis and repair of impacted teeth.

Dr. Alling is thrilled and honored to have merged his long-standing practice with Dr. David Roden. They have operated together for several years and have the same philosophy of quality patient care. Dr. Alling would like his patients to know that at Roden Oral Surgery, we treat each patient like we would like to be treated, for the very best experience every time.

Dr. Alling attended the Indiana School of Dentistry. Following a VA general practice residency in Birmingham, he trained at the University of Louisville oral and maxillofacial residency program. Upon completion, Dr. Alling volunteered and joined the US Army, where he was stationed at Landstuhl, West Germany, near the hospital where he was born.

Dr. Alling has been active and a leader in both the Birmingham District Dental Society and the Alabama State Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He also has been a consultant for the US Army Dental Corps.

Dr. Alling has been married for over 44 years to Pam, and they both have been blessed with a large family of three sons, three beautiful daughters-in-law, and eight amazing grandchildren. The Allings are active members of their church and are actively involved with a prison ministry. When he is not traveling, Dr. Alling enjoys art and strives to become a better painter. One of his favorite jokes is that the practice of oral surgery is a great way to pay for his paint!

Office seating area is beautiful. I went in with anxiety of 100%. I'm not a big fan of dentist or oral surgeons. His staff made me feel at ease (I was still nervous) and Dr. Roden talked with me and told me the whole procedure. Then, I was put out like a light and had my surgery. I didn't even know I went to sleep. It's not a procedure I would want to do every week, but if I need another procedure with my teeth, Dr. Roden is my surgeon.

From the receptionist, to the nurses, to the doctor this was an exceptional experience. Out of all the surgeries I've had, which have been a few, the staff was very nice and very knowledgeable. What really impressed me was, the doctor himself called me later that night after office hours to check on me!

Michelle was so wonderful on the phone before we even stepped foot in the door! All of the nurses were great & Dr. Roden was very impressive! My son had to get 4 baby teeth pulled for orthodontia & it was 100% better than I anticipated!

Dr. Alling and his staff were absolutely amazing. I have a dentist phobia and they treated me like a queen. every aspect of my care at the office was perfect, they are very caring and made sure I was comfortable, there was no pain and my recovery has been uneventful. I would certainly go to this office again and recommend it to others

The surgery process was very easy and relaxing to commit to, and I didn't feel any pain! I did feel quite sore and lethargic for a few days afterwards, but that's to be expected.

First visit went extremely well. Very nice staff that make you at ease. My original appointment was with another facility in Alabaster. I am so glad I changed. I highly recommend Dr Roden and I only wished he was closer to my area.
