My career in dentistry began shortly after graduating from High School in 1978. I started as a Certified Dental Assistant graduating from Virginia Western Community College in 1979. After working as a CDA for 7 years, I retired to raise our 2 children as a stay home mom. After my youngest started kindergarten, I went back to school to further my education.

There was always a calling to go back to dentistry. In 1998, I enrolled at UNC Chapel Hill in the dental hygiene program where I completed my certificate in Dental Hygiene in 2000. During this process, I realized how much I actually missed performing dental procedures. While completing the hygiene program, I applied for dental school. In February 2000, I was accepted at UNC Chapel Hill in the DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) program, which was completed in May 2004.

I was introduced to dentistry during high school while working as a sterilization assistant at a local dental office. Originally from Massachusetts, I moved to North Carolina to explore new territory, as well as to complete a certificate in dental assisting from UNC Chapel Hill. From this unique and enriching experience, my interest in dentistry continued to grow. With a desire to gain acceptance to dental school, I attended Barton College in Wilson, NC where I earned a degree in biology. After working as a pediatric dental assistant for a few years after graduation, I was fortunate and ecstatic to be chosen as a member of the inaugural class at East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine.

I am honored and appreciative to be given the opportunity to serve the Rocky Mount community while fulfilling ECUs mission of providing dental care to the underserved region of Eastern North Carolina. It is important to me to provide the most quality dentistry possible, while staying current on advances in dental medicine. It is my privilege to treat our patients with the gentleness, kindness, care and respect that I would expect for myself.

Courtney was born and raised in Eastern North Carolina. She graduated from Halifax Community College in 2012 with a registered Hygiene Degree. She has been with Rocky Mount Smilemakers since her graduation. We are glad to have her as a team member. She cares about the comfort of each and every patient and likes to form a special bond with everyone she sees. Trust is very important to her.We are proud to have her as a team member.

Susan obtained her DA I certification in 1988.She believes all patients need to be treated the way she would want to be treated. This makes for an extremely caring individual that is gentle with patients.

Janna has worked in the dental field since 2001. She was an Office Manager at a local dentist until he retired in 2011. She was born in Richmond, Virginia and although she has lived in Rocky Mount since she was 8 years old she still has a great fondness for her Cavalier Brethren. She worked for several years as an office representative at a Local State Farm Insurance office and was a licensed P&C, Life and Health and Medicare Supplemental Agent. Janna has a great love of animals and considers her Pomeranian her four legged child. She loves dentistry and being able to help people. It is pleasure for her to work at Rocky Mount Smilemakers since she feels that she not only has a wonderful job, but works with people who have created a friendly, family like atmosphere.

Arian has been in the dental field since 1987. She started as a dental assistant and then attended East Carolina University where she received a BS degree in education. (GO PIRATES!). Due to her passion for dentistry, she continued working as a dental assistant until 1998 when she began the dental hygiene program at Fayetteville Technical Community College. She graduated in 2000 as valedictorian of her class. Arian also received the Henry Schein Scaler Award for excellence in clinical skills. Born and raised, Rocky Mount is where Arian calls home. She has three beautiful and very active children that keep her young. According to Arian a Smile is the best gift you can give to anyone. It can turn a bad day into a good one and is priceless.

Kira attended a dental assistant program in 2012 straight out high school. She loves to maintain a one on one connection with her patients to create a comfortable dental visit every time. Kira believes it should not only be just any dental visit it should be more like seeing family. My mission is to make your dental visit great!

Kristina is from the Coopers Community in Nash County. She started working in the dental field 1982 for 4 years before moving to Okinawa Japan. Upon returning to the States, she worked for an Orthodontist in San Antonio, Texas. Finally returning home to Nash County, she worked in Spring Hope for a medical practice for 27 years. She is happy to be working in dentistry again with a great staff here at RockyMountSmilemakers. She believes, a smile is a simple gift that can brighten someones day.

In 2008, the hazards of work and her scoliosis doctors recommended her to have back surgery. In October 2008 she resigned from her position in New Bern NC and had the surgery. In April of 2008, still healing she decided to start contracting all over the eastern NC as a temporary hygienist.

In 2015, she was asked to fill in at this wonderful office in Rocky Mount NC. She immediately fell in love with staff and the technology. In October of 2017, Dr Debra Zombek asked Jen to become part of the family

Penny is our therapy canine. She was born November 2017. She loves people and loves to make them smile. She loves it when you rub her back or belly. We know that coming to the dentist is not most peoples favorite thing to do, but if Penny can put a smile on your facethats a good thing.

Dr. Zombek is an exceptional dentist. She is patient, caring and very thorough. I would recommend her to anyone for their dental needs. She repaired a broken denture for me that was attached to implants. The procedure turned out to be more complicated than I anticipated, but she took care of the problem expeditiously and I am very satisfied with the results. Thank you to Dr. Zombek and her excellent staff.
