Philosophy of CareThe team at Rockville Smile Design believe in the importance of preventative care. We focus on keeping patients in good oral health so that they can live a full, healthy, and enjoyable life that is free from oral pain. This starts by educating our patients on what they can do to stay healthy at home. In our family dentist office we recommend that patients eat a healthy diet that consists of green leafy vegetables, lean protein, nuts, dairy products, and crunchy fruits and veggies. Eating these foods along with drinking water can help to keep teeth healthy and make them stronger. By simultaneously reducing sugar intake, patients can also reduce their risk of cavities.

It is also important to brush and floss throughout the day. Instead of waiting for bedtime to brush teeth, carry a small toothbrush and use it after meals and snacks. This makes it possible to remove sugar and bacteria from the teeth and gums before it has the opportunity to turn into acid that can attack the teeth. This preventative step can greatly reduce a persons risk of getting a cavity or gum disease. We understand the importance of taking these steps at home and will spend the time necessary to educate and inform patients so that they can stay healthy overall. Education, after all, is essential for living a long and healthy life.

Understanding the importance of these regular dental exams, the staff at Rockville Smile Design work to make each patient extremely comfortable. This includes being welcoming and kind while performing dental treatments in a way that is painless and relaxing. Patients visit our dentist office because they trust us to do just that take care of their teeth and gums, gently. The majority of our patients are local and come from the greater Rockville area, we also see patients that are looking for gentle dental care.

Seniors, on the other hand, often struggle with gum disease and oral infections. As people age, their teeth can become weaker and infected more easily. Bone loss is incredibly common with seniors and by conducting regular dental exams, the team at Rockville Smile Design can help seniors to have strong teeth and reduce the risk of them falling out. Since over seventy percent of U.S. adults suffer from tooth loss, preventative care is important.

Q: Are baby teeth really that important to my child?A: Primary, or baby, teeth are important for many reasons. Not only do they help children speak clearly and chew naturally, they also aid in forming a path that permanent teeth can follow when they are ready to come in.

Q: What should I do if my child has a toothache?A: First, rinse the irritated area with warm salt water and place a cold compress on the face if it is swollen. Give the child acetaminophen for any pain, rather than placing aspirin on the teeth or gums. Finally, see a dentist as soon as possible.

Q: How do dental sealants work?A: Sealants work by filling in the crevasses on the chewing surfaces of the teeth. This shuts out food particles that could get caught in the teeth, causing cavities. The application is fast and comfortable and can effectively protect teeth for many years.

Q: How do I know if my child is getting enough fluoride?A: Have your family dentist evaluate the fluoride level of your childs primary source of drinking water. If your child is not getting enough fluoride internally through water (especially if the fluoride level is deficient or if your child drinks bottled water without fluoride), then we may prescribe fluoride supplements.

Q: What can I do to protect my teeth during sporting events?A: Soft plastic mouthguards can be used to protect teeth, lips, cheeks and gums from sport related injuries. A custom-fitted mouthguard will protect your teeth from injuries and even provide protection from severe injuries to the head.

Q: How safe are dental X-rays?A: There is very little risk in dental X-rays. Family dentists are especially careful to limit the amount of radiation to which you and your family are exposed. Lead aprons and high-speed film are used to ensure safety and minimize the amount of radiation. Digital x-rays provide an even greater level of protection by using up to 90 percent less radiation.

I am a general dentist who has shadowed Dr. Mahajan when I first got out of school. She is great managing patients with dental anxiety and does an excellent job explaining treatment plans to them.

I've known Dr. Dipty Mahajan for 20 years now, and have referred patients to her, and received patient referrals from her. Her ability as a restorative dentist are in the top echelon of skill. She is thorough, meticulous and artistic. Her kindness and generosity are really what sets her apart from the rest. I've seen her so many times help people who could not afford the dental care they required to achieve proper health, function and esthetics. I saw how she was subjected to an unfair review, and just had to write an honest rebut to that. Dr. Mahajan and her staff are committed to excellence and truly practice by the Golden Rule, to treat all others as they would like to be treated.

One of the best experiences I've had at this office. The staff is very polite and nice. Had some treatment to get done and they were very accommodating and did the best to fit with my schedule will definitely keep coming here.

Me and my husband have worst experience with Dr. Mahajan's treatment. We just went for normal check ups and cleaning, no pain nothing. After checking she suggested me to do the filling for my three tooth and replace my well going bridge. I did the filling for 3 tooth and after that all these tooth became sensitive. I don't know what she did. So refrained myself for the bridge replacement. Also my husband did some filling and a part of it came out. Another worst thing is waiting time goes more than 1 Hours :(

Dr. Mahajan and her staff and highly professional and dedicated. My two daughters and I have been in her care for 15 years. She is very mindful of my situation and will work with me in terms of scheduling but also understands my high anxiety, low pain tolerance and high tolerance to anesthetics. She listens to you!

Horrible experience after the doctor recommended my dad to have 6-7 teeth extracted due to infection and decay. After the dentist removed all 6-7 of my dad's teeth, he was fitted for dentures. At this time my dad has only about maybe 10 teeth left in his mouth. Office told us it takes roughly 14 days for the impressions to get back from the lab. The office staff (Lily) would call on the 14th day and stated that the lab is taking longer than expected and they have to reschedule my dad's appointment because the lab messed up. I had to call the lab myself to see what the reasoning for them not getting the dentures sent back and got the lab to send it the next day. That was the first instance, fast forward a couple more weeks to have the dentures completed and send back to the office, the office (Lily) again called day of my dad's appointment roughly 45 mins before his appointment to tell us that the lab messed up again. Never giving me a reason, always just saying the lab is taking too long and they won't give us a reason. The office will never take responsibility for their mistakes and they constantly blame the lab for delays in getting patient's dentures. I again had to call the lab and was told that the original delivery date for the final case was always August 1, which meant that someone in their office scheduled my dad's appointment a week early and the office blamed the lab for the mistake. Once they get your money from the teeth extractions and the money for the dentures to be fitted they do not follow up or try to make you as a patient feel needed anymore. They've received their money and will continue to blame others for their own mistakes. The office will continue to blame the lab for delays and say it's the labs fault and it's out of their hands. I had to call the lab twice myself to find out the reasoning for the delays and they accommodated the delivery of the dentures the next day. Why is it my job as a patient to call the lab, to find out about my father's dentures. The office should always call the day before to make sure that dentures/cases are delivered if you are going to have the patient scheduled to come in. It is not the patient/ patient's family to be your office administrator/ coordinate these things.

This place is the worst interm of scheduling. We have Dominion Dental insurace. I spent tons of time requesting this place to be listed on the roster. Then a day before the scheduled appointment, the place called and canceled the appointment due to 'system issues'. Within 2 weeks, the sytem issue was not fixed. Finally, you can make an appointment and they say they can't find the roster. Ridiculous. Worst of the worst.

I went here only once and I can confirm that I will never be using their services again. As a new resident, I was looking for a new dental office and this was close to home so I decided to give it a whirl. They had no availability for 2 months so into the waiting queue I went, which was fine with me. When the day came, I arrive about 10 minutes early and was asked to fill out the most in-depth, old school informational forms I've ever seen. It took 30 minutes to complete the forms and another 15 minutes of waiting until I got to the chair. I then sat in the chair for another 20 minutes. I'm now nearly an hour into my appointment time and I haven't even met Dr. Mahajan yet. Unfortunately, this was the worse part. She may've been having a rough day but that lady absolutely wrecked my mouth. I pointed out the only 2 sensitive areas I have near my gums and it's almost like she intentionally abused those areas multiple times. One time it hurt so bad that I raised out of my chair and told her to stop and that she must be careful or I'm walking out. Then we get to the flossing stage and she sliced my gums so bad and I was bleeding when I returned home. I have healthy teeth and gums and can assure you that the bleeding was not due neglecting my oral care, it's because Dr. Mahajan was rushing my appointment and didn't care.

My employers dental insurance is very selective. My only option was this practice until they updated my plan. The front office staff were very unprofessional, I was told I arrived too early for my new patient appointment and wasn't given paperwork until exactly 10am on the dot. Really long wait times, waited about 2 hours for my second appointment. Staff are disrespected by dentist in front of patients, extremely unprofessional, I feel bad for the staff! Wish it were a better experience!

I would not recommend. The treatment experience is very disappointed. I feel not comfortable during the treatment process, not gentle and not caring. My lining of the mouth is scratched. Water (that is used during the treatment) splashes a lot on my T-shirt and neck, no one cares and nobody gives me any napkin. The process is short and not professional. After the treatment, my tooth is getting worse. Tooth feel hurt and loose. Very upset.
