Chetan H. Parikh, DMD, MDS Diplomate, American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine Diplomate, American Board of Craniofacial Dental Sleep Medicine Fellow, American Academy of Craniofacial Pain Expert in Oral Appliance Therapy for Sleep Apnea/Snoring

Dr. Chetan Parikh received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, an Ivy League school, in 2001. Dr. Parikh graduated with second class rank and a GPA of 3.91. Prior to receiving his DMD, Dr. Parikh practiced dentistry in India, where he received both his Master of Dental Surgery and Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the largest and most prestigious dental school, the Government Dental College and Hospital, in Bombay, India.

Because of his extensive training as an oral medicine specialist, Dr. Parikh doesnt just look at your teeth; he looks for the whole picture and oral manifestations of systemic diseases. With his holistic approach, Dr. Parikh can help detect systemic diseases such as pemphigus, a serious skin disease, lupus, diabetes, and many others by evaluating the mouth for any signs and symptoms. This early detection can help you get the medical treatment you need earlier on to avoid any long-lasting, harmful effects.

Since establishing his practice in 2005, Dr. Parikh has been providing exceptional dental care to families in Rockville, Maryland, and the surrounding areas. In order to continue offering high-quality dental treatment to our patients, Dr. Parikh takes over 200 hours of continuing education classes each year, including classes on dental sleep apnea, dental implants, and orthodontics. He has received certification as a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine (ABDSM), a Diplomate of the American Board of Craniofacial Dental Sleep Medicine, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain. This achievement is marked by extensive continuing education, observation, rigorous examination, and presentation of actual patient cases to a board of dental sleep medicine peers. When choosing a dentist, or any medical professional, you should look for one who is board-certified. A board-certified dentist has met requirements that have been established by his or her peers on a national level. By meeting such high standards, a board-certified dentist will exceed your expectations for care and expertise, more so than a non-board-certified dentist. With this certification, Dr. Parikh can give you the healthy smile of your dreams.

Dr. Parikhs wife says that dentistry is his passion; that he lives and breathes dentistry. Dentistry runs in Dr. Parikhs blood; in fact, his grandfather graduated from the first dental school in Kolkata, India, in 1920. His grandfather was a lifelong dentist, practicing until he passed away in 1972.

Simply put, a diplomate is a person who has become board-certified in a particular dental or medical specialty. To become a diplomate, a physician must set him or herself apart to practice in a specialty by completing advanced training and practical experience in a chosen field. A doctor may only become a diplomate following an exhaustive examination that has been conducted by a national board of senior specialists. To achieve the status of diplomate, Dr. Chetan Parikh has devoted many hours to increasing his knowledge base and his skill set. By doing so he will be able to offer his patients solutions in the areas of sleep medicine and cranio-facial medicine. Once one becomes a diplomate, one still involves oneself in continuing education and further certifications. The amount of time and effort that one puts into becoming a diplomate is an indicator of that doctors dedication to the art of healing and the well-being of his or her patients.

A kid friendly dentist creates a healthy and comfortable professional environment, providing the age-appropriate dental treatment a child needs for healthy teeth. Rockville Family Dental is a kid friendly dentist office in the greater Rockville area.

As a kid friendly dentist, we strive to create a comfortable and welcoming environment to help kids have a positive experience with visiting the dentist. It is no surprise that many children, and adults, are not always fond of dental treatment. However, by creating a positive experience with the dentist at a young age, children will have a more positive view of oral hygiene as a whole.

We will also help to instill healthy oral hygiene habits the parent or guardian can continue at home, to help make brushing teeth fun for the child. Our goal is to help children maintain healthy teeth as they age so that they can continue to have healthy teeth later in life. We will customize treatment to the child's needs and help ease them into a regular dental routine.

As a parent, you naturally want what is best for your child. Many parents are unaware of how oral health and dental care plays into that. According to the Center for Disease Control, tooth decay (cavities) is the number one most commonly occurring infectious disease among children. This leads to children experiencing toothaches in high numbers, missing days from school, and experiencing overall discomfort. Tooth decay is not a trivial thing, but a condition that can create significant discomfort for your child and even make it difficult for them to eat, speak clearly, and engage in normal daily activities. If you live in the Rockville area and think that this will not happen to your child, statistically, it most likely will. Brushing and flossing at home will help, but it is not enough. You need to bring your child to our kid friendly dentist office twice a year so that we can examine and clean their teeth. By doing this, we will be able to remove the plaque and bacteria that can lead to cavities in the first place.

In addition to visiting our kid friendly dentist office, it is important that you practice good oral hygiene at home and teach your child to do the same. In our dental office, we work with a lot of children under age eight and understand how challenging it can be to get them excited about brushing teeth. Kids are busy and asking them to stop riding bikes, building Legos, or playing dress up to brush their teeth can lead to conflict fairly quickly. We get it. At Rockville Family Dental, we can work with young children and are under no illusion that they are fascinated by oral health. Our job, however, is to change their opinion of dental care and show them that it can be fun and interesting. This way they will want to brush and floss their teeth, even without being told. With that in mind, we have a few resources that we have found to be helpful and suggest that you try them at home.

Once your child is brushing correctly, it is time to turn your attention to how long they are brushing for. At Rockville Family Dental we encourage all of our patients to brush for two minutes, twice a day, regardless of how old they are. This, however, can be difficult for young children that find it hard to focus on a task or to stay still. As a kid friendly dentist, we want them to brush their teeth but staying still isn't a requirement. Try making it fun to brush teeth by playing their favorite song for two minutes and letting them dance and brush. You can also play a two-minute video clip or cartoon for them while brushing. The American Dental Association has an entire section of their website devoted to these short videos and watching them will get your child used to brushing for the full two minutes. We have worked with families throughout the Rockville area and have found that using media works far better than standing there with a stopwatch. The goal is to create positive associations between dental care and having fun so that your child will continue to brush their teeth as they grow.

As a kid friendly dentist office in Rockville, we are focused on preventative care. It is far better for your child to visit us for a regular teeth cleaning than to only see us with a toothache. Fortunately, by using preventative care methods we can help your child to avoid experiencing any dental discomfort. In addition to cleaning their teeth, one of the ways that we do so is with dental sealant. Many children have deep ridges in their teeth. When they bite down and chew food, bacteria, food particles, and plaque can become trapped in those ridges and eventually they will create tooth decay. These areas are particularly difficult to clean with a toothbrush alone, so even the most fastidious of parents may find it challenging to keep cavities at bay. By using dental sealant, a protective layer is placed onto the teeth so that nothing can become stuck in these ridges. The procedure is painless and fast since all we need to do is brush a material onto the teeth and allow it to harden. At Rockville Family Dental, we have found this to be a simple way to prevent our young patients from getting cavities.

Another tool for prevention is our regular fluoride treatments. We recommend that all children have this throughout their teenage years. If you aren't on public water, this is particularly important for preventing cavities. Statistically, if your child has a fluoride treatment in our dental office, their risk for getting cavities decreases by thirty percent. This is significant when you are considering the overall health and well-being of your child. With that in mind, we use whatever tools are at our disposal to ensure that your child is as healthy and as comfortable as possible both now and as they age. If you live in the Rockville area, we invite you to schedule a dental exam by calling (301) 575-0941.

I have been going to this Sleep dentist for over 4 yrs. I generally don't write reviews as the judgements are subjective. But I am tempted to write a 7 star review as the office of Dr. Parikh along with his staff is truly exceptional. Dr. Parikh is the smartest and most thorough dentist I have seem in all my life. He actually saved my life, and motivated me to get screened for a potential life threatening condition that is easily treated by wearing this convenient oral appliance. My primary care MD nor my previous dentist of long time ever mentioned any of things he checked me for. Thanks to Dr. Parikh, my wife can now get a restful sleep and she does not have to be bothered by my snoring and worried about gasping for air in sleep. His staff is truly great in following up and explaining treatment plan and estimate my insurance coverage so it makes things simplified. I am very pleased and blessed to have found you Dr. Parikh. I have no hesitation what so ever to any one who is looking for a Board certified Dental Sleep Medicine dentist like Dr. Parikh for all dental procedures.

I initially went to Dr. Parikh for help with Sleep Apnea because the standard practice of CPAP had produced only minimal results. Dr. Parikh fixed some other dental issues and fitted me for an appliance. Now for the first time in years I am sleeping soundly. His staff is competent and caring and he is the most patient and thorough dentist whom I have ever encountered. He is now my "Go to" guy for all my dental issues. In the several years since starting with Dr Parikh I have developed an increasing respect for the doctor's abilities and commitment. When my son was visiting from Ohio he started to experience pain in his jaw and needed immediate attention. One call to Dr Parikh and he was seen and evaluated the next day. The doctor immediately scheduled and performed a root canal which corrected my son's problem. He is now back in Ohio and very grateful for the help from Dr Parikh.

I wanted to update my last review to include more information about Dr. Parikh's recent work. In the fall, I had an infected root canal. Dr. Parikh was able to repair it. I also had a chipped tooth that Dr. Parikh was able to fix. He always does amazing work. He also did a great job checking up on my after both procedures, which I really appreciated. I have been a patient of Dr. Parikh for many years. He has always done a great job. About four years ago, Dr. Parikh expressed concern that I might have sleep apnea. He recommended me to a neurologist, who diagnosed me with severe sleep apnea. I now have a CPap machine, and it is helping me tremendously. The neurologist was also able to find me an extremely helpful medication for my migraines. Dr. Parikh also realized that a night guard could help me, as I was biting my tongue during the night. He took me through the process of getting the night guard, and it has also been so helpful. I am so grateful that Dr. Parikh guided me to get the help that I needed.

Sadly, I'm not surprised that there's no patient record for me - seems like what I'd expect from your record-keeping. My son and I came for regular cleaning appointments on 7/1/18. Someone checked the system and verified that we were assigned to your office and we proceeded with the appointment. I was told I needed to come back for a deep clean (without doing gum pocket measurements), which I've never been told by any dentist before or since. The tech who did my cleaning said, "I'm not going to do a thorough clean since you'll be back anyway." A few weeks later, I receive a bill for service and a notification that my dental office had been changed as of 6/30/18. Funny no one told me that on the day of the appointment, right?! Glad to say we've found a new dental office since.

This dentist resolved my TMJ pain. I had trouble opening my jaw, I had headaches, and neck pain. After using his appliance, doing the exercises, I have little to none TMJ. The appliance does cost $$$$, but it is worth it. Dr. Parekh changed my life. If you have clenching or grinding of your teeth, you have to see this guy. He will cure your issues as long as you do what he tells you to do.

Dr. Parikh has wasted my time. I was supposed to come for a cleansing, and I waited for three hours. Not only that, but he got to me he did a poor job and went on to the next patient. It was like he had no time for me. He is rude and impatient. Also, the price is ridiculous. Don't come here if you want rude service and a terrible experience.
