Dr. Carvalho then attended the Boston University School of Dental Medicine.In 2004, she graduated from dental school magna cum laude, and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon national honor society which recognizes the highest achievement in dental studies among top graduates.

She decided she wanted to further her knowledge and experience beyond dental school, and following graduation, Dr. Carvalho was accepted into Boston Universitys Advanced Education in General Dentistry program. This is a very competitive program with many applicants andonly twelve students are chosen to participate. This program offered an opportunity to study with dental specialists and concluded with her being awarded a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study.

Dr. Carvalho has wasted no time in seeking opportunities to contribute to members of the community by offering her skills to the less fortunate. She has participated in local Give Kids A Smile Day events and has volunteered on the Mobile Access to Care Van sponsored by the MA Dental Society helping to care for the citys underserved children.

In addition, she is volunteering her time by serving as the Secretary of the Southeast District Dental Society. This has enabled her to be part of the legislative process that governs dentistry for our state and allows her to stay abreast of present day issues while being a part of the decision-making process.

Donna is a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) who received her degree from Bristol Community College. She is our longest tenured team member having joined the practice in 1987 and has been a steady presence as the practice evolved over the years from a 'single dentist/single hygienist' practice to it 's current state. Her calm and gentle nature has garnered her a legion of faithful patients as she continuously strives to improve their dental health. Her experience over the years in general dentistry has been invaluable to her patients as she helps guide them in making good choices regarding their treatment planning decisions.

Doreen received her RDH degree in dental hygiene from Bristol Community College in 1978. She joined the practice in 1989, bringing with her several years of experience from her previous employment in a local periodontal practice. Over the years, her schedule has fluctuated from full to part time as she raised her family, but altogether she totals over 20 years as a member of our team. her keen eye, her attention to detail and her skill set makes her another invaluable asset to our practice.

Mariajoined us in March 2013. Listed officially as a part-time hygienist, she is a regular on Fridays. She graduated from Bristol Community College in 2003 as a Registered Dental Hygienist. maria has been a welcome addition to our office and has blended in seamlessly with our group. She is quite experienced in working with children and has been well received by all of our regular patients. Maria is fluent in both Portuguese and Cape Verdean Creole.

Diane, another long term employee, is our only Certified Dental Assistant. She came on board in 1986, took some time off to raise her family and returned in 1996. Trained in our office over the years, she studied hard for her CDA examination and became fully certified in dental assisting. Diane takes great pride in her work and as a result has earned the opportunity to take on added responsibilities. She is well versed in occlusion and thus makes nightguards for our patients with little supervision. Her calm demeanor and her ability to lend a caring ear is very reassuring to patients. We are all grateful that her organizational skills keep the treatment area of our office running smoothly.

Marta was initially hired to work the front desk, however, it soon became obvious that her people skills, caring demeanor and artistic talents would be better served directly with patient contact in the treatment area. Trained in office, she has demonstrated her ability to learn quickly and takes great pride in her acquired dental assisting skills. She is high energy and often in motion, but also has the innate ability to connect with patients and readily puts them at ease. She is a dedicated employee whowill assume any task required to make the office run better. Born on the island of St. Miguel, Acores, Marta is fluent in Portuguese.

Sabrina joined us as a dental assistant in 2007 when Dr. Carvalho joined the team. Sabrina has a wonderful sense of humor that helps keep the practice mood light. Her quick wit belies her serious nature when it comes to the quality of her work. Keeping her patients relaxed with easy conversation, she has a sharpfocus on the task at hand. Although trained and graduated from a dental assisting program, she plans to become fully certified in the future. The daughter or immigrant parents, Sabrina is fluent in Portuguese as well.

Justina is the newest member to our team. She had spent time at our office while still in the dental assisting program at Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School. Although she has a very quiet demeanor, we realized her capabilities and her fantastic work ethic. She joined our group soon after she graduated. Justina has been very helpful with every aspect of the dental office and jumps in wherever she is needed.

Patti was hired to assist at the front desk in 2009. Through the years Patti has been employed in various local dental offices in differing capacities. She has developed her knowledge of dentistry though her years of experience and as a result she now handles the financial side of the front desk. You will find her well versed in matters regarding insurance and billing and more than willing to take time to explain insurance benefits and deductibles. In addition, she has assumed the duty of greeting new patients as they arrive at our practice to help ease their transition to a new office.
