Dr. Wood graduated from University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry in 1997. Prior to studying at University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry, she attended Pittsburg State University. Dr. Wood has been practicing for many years. She loves caring for patients in her hometown of Pittsburg and also has patients drive from many miles around the region to see her each year. Since she began practicing dentistry, Dr. Wood has kept up to date on many continuing educational classes, ensuring that her patients receive the most comprehensive and advanced dental care.

Dr. Robin (Plumlee) Wood grew up in Pittsburg and graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1983. After high school she worked for James Pope at Lasting Impressions Dental Lab (making dental appliances) and began taking undergraduate courses at Pittsburg State University. While working at the dental lab she had the chance to work closely with several local dentists and became interested in the field.

In 1986, Dr. Wood attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois to complete a Associates Degree in Dental Technology. While attending SIU she learned the art of making many different kinds of dental appliances including crowns, bridges, dentures and partials. Dr. Wood received many academic achievement awards during her time at SIU and graduated with honors in 1987.

Dr. Wood returned to Pittsburg and married Robert L. Wood in 1988. She returned to work for Lasting Impressions Dental Lab and continued taking courses toward her undergraduate degree at Pittsburg State University. Dr. Wood received many honors while attending PSU including the Outstanding Senior Award and a scholarship for best graduating senior entering a professional school. She graduated December 1992 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.

After completing her degree and working in the dental field, Dr. Wood decided it was natural to apply for admission to dental school. She was immediately accepted at the University of Oklahoma College Of Dentistry in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and began attending in 1993. Dr. Wood was voted class president for the 1993-94 freshman year and received many awards over the four years she attended UOCOD. Some of these awards include: Singer/Pollach Scholarship, American Dental Society of Anesthesiology Certificate of Achievement, Crest Award for Excellence in Dentistry for the Elderly, Honor Student Award in Pedodontics, Academy of Dental Materials Award, Dentsply Student Clinician Award, International Congress of Oral Implantologists Award, Student Research Group Award of Distinction, National Disaster Medical System Certificate of Appreciation (Oklahoma City Bombing Recovery Effort), Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society Award, William S. Kramer Award of Excellence, American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Award, Pierre Fauchard Academy Award of Excellence. In 1996, she won the state Grand Prize for Table Clinic Research and was honored to present at the national American Dental Association Conference in Orlando, Florida.

Dr. Wood graduated with Outstanding Distinction from the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry in 1997. She was encouraged to apply for advanced study in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. She finished her advanced studies in Oral Surgery on June 2001 and began working as a part-time associate for a dentist in Kansas City, Kansas. In August 2001, Dr. Wood started seeing local patients at Dr. Russell's office in Pittsburg. Dr. Russell has been a wonderful mentor and a great influence on Dr. Wood. He was her dentist and she worked with him on many cases during her years at Lasting Impressions Dental Lab. In December 2001, Dr. Wood started the process of remodeling a dental facility located next to Lindburg Pharmacy. In February 2002 the facility was complete and ready to see patients.

Dr. Wood's practice was setup to provide the maximum in comfort, efficiency and diagnostic capability. Her patients enjoy comfortable surroundings, and great customized care from an experience team of clinicians. Dr. Wood and her husband Robert L. Wood (Imaging Expert and Office Manager) have investigated and implemented the latest in dental imaging technology into her practice. Patients can enjoy the best diagnostic systems for x-ray and intra-oral images. These systems require up to 90 percent less radiation than traditional film-based x-rays and provide instant images. Dr. Wood has setup her office to feel like home with comfortable furnishings and a relaxing atmosphere. She is currently accepting new patients and would love the opportunity to welcome you into her practice.

Bonding is a popular method to enhance the aesthetics of your smile. Bonding can be used to correct cracks or gaps in teeth, as a filling after a cavity has been removed, or to cover up stains or discolored teeth.

A composite resin is used on the affected tooth or teeth. It is molded and sculpted over an adhesive gel that is placed on the tooth. After the resin has been applied an ultraviolet light is used to harden the resin, which is then polished to give you a fresh, new smile. Bonding is an obvious improvement over unsightly silver amalgam fillings.

Over time our teeth begin to weaken and become more susceptible to problems such as decay, cracks, discoloration and others. If you feel your smile isnt what it once was, crowns can help you recover your smile. If your dentist notices that a tooth is decayed or seems weakened/cracked a crown may be necessary to make sure that there are no additional problems with the tooth. In cases like this a filling or bonding will not be sufficient.

Crowns can be made from porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, or a full gold crown. To maintain a natural look and feel a porcelain finished crown is best, as it can be matched to the shade of your other teeth. This will allow it to blend in and appear just like one of your natural teeth.

The process of installing a crown takes 2-3 visits to the dentist. On the first visit the tooth will be reshaped by filing down the enamel so that the crown can be placed over it. You will be given a local anesthetic before this part of the procedure so that you do not experience any discomfort. Once the tooth has been reshaped, a mold will be taken of that tooth and the surrounding teeth. This mold will be sent to a dental lab so that your new crown can be made so that it fits in the spot created for it and looks the same relative to the surrounding teeth. Before leaving, your dentist will fit you with a temporary crown until your permanent crown is ready.

Veneers are an excellent way to redesign and reshape your entire mouth. Veneers are a very thin ceramic shell that covers your existing tooth structure. In placing these new veneers on your teeth, you are able to fix the look of issues such as staining, cracked teeth, spaces, misaligned teeth, chipped teeth and many other issues.

In terms of the process to place veneers, it is a process that takes approximately two to three visits. In the first visit, we will discuss the new shape and look of what we are going to accomplish by placing the veneers. Once we have put a plan in place, we will carefully prepare the teeth for the placement of the new veneers. As we complete this piece of the process, the next step is to take an impression of the newly prepared teeth. This impression will be sent to our laboratory for the final product to be fabricated. We only utilize the highest standard laboratory for fabrication of all of our work. This process at the laboratory takes between 10-14 days. While the new veneers are being fabricated at the lab, we will provide you with a beautiful temporary solution to wear for this time.>

As the veneers are finalized, we will make every effort to make sure that your new veneers will feel just like your natural teeth. We will bond them into place ensuring that you can enjoy your new smile for a very long time!

Dr. Wood and her staff are simply the best dentistry experience I've had in my life. They truly care about each of their patients and do pristine dental work. They accommodate for chronic illness, disabilities, and anxiety. Dr. Wood goes above and beyond. After I got a diagnosis for my chronic illness she sat down with me to make a plan to make sure I was comfortable in the office and to prevent any episodes from happening while I get dental work done. She truly cares about her patient's entire well being - not just if they floss regularly. When she heard about chronic pain I was experiencing, she asked me how she could advocate for me and coordinate with my primary care physician. I can't recommend her enough!

Super nice staff, last time I had my teeth cleaned there they dimmed the lights and turned on a tv that was in view from my chair while leaned back. Watching how to train your dragon 2 while having my pearly whites polished was almost therapeutic.
