Dr. Sheppard first became interested in the field of pediatric dentistry as a child, when he would shadow his childhood dentist to discover what made those visits not only healthy but fun! Dr. Sheppard is committed to make every dental experience a positive one for your child, while offering the very best in patient care.
To this end, Dr. Sheppard spent years of additional study to become a specialist in the field of pediatric dentistry and completed multiple residencies as a specialist for children's dentistry and special healthcare needs dentistry. He is certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, in addition to being a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, which requires completing multiple steps in the certification process to verify higher proficiency and excellence in pediatric dentistry. Diplomate status is maintained through an annual renewal process.Dr. Sheppard is proud to be a veteran of the United States Navy. After serving as a U.S. NavyOfficer and traveling the world as a dentist on the USS Bataan (LHD-5) he returned to the Medical University of South Carolina to complete his residency training in pediatric dentistry. He has now been in practice for over a decade in Roanoke while practicing as amember of the College of Diplomates and is designated aDiplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

I provide high-quality oral healthcare to all children and maximize patient outcomes through continuous participation in the certification process.
Through his Diplomate status at the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Sheppard demonstrates annually that his knowledge is up to date and maintains the boards high standard of clinical excellence. Dr. Sheppard is also involved in continuing education through his membership and participation in the professional organizations listed above.
Dr. Sheppard grew up in Arkansas and has made Roanoke his home for the past decade.He believes Roanoke is a great place for families, and enjoys sharing all it has to offer with his wife Erin, daughters Grace and Mila, and son Levi. Their dogs Nessie and Chewy are lucky to share their home with Erin Sheppard, DVM a veterinarian!
Dr. Sheppard enjoys spending time in the outdoors, especially fishing and waterskiing on the lake. Hes involved in his community: participating in local organizations and schools and helping to coach youth sports.

We had a wonderful experience today at Roanoke Pediatric Dentistry. Staff was very friendly and patient with my one and four year old children. I'm so happy we found a pediatric dentist in our area. Highly recommend

Dr. Sheppard preformed a tongue tie revision on my 5 month old. He was very knowledgeable and gentle. Dr. Sheppard preforms this procedure with a laser and uses topical lidocaine (not all providers do this). We had plenty of one on one time with him to learn the post op stretches and for question and answers. I would highly recommend him.

Dr. Sheppard performed lip and tongue tie revisions on my 3 month old. He explains things well and makes sure all of our questions are answered before and after the procedure. I love the calm atmosphere of the private room that we were able to nurse my baby in right after the procedure. The entire staff is so nice and the facility is very clean!

Hands down, Dr. Sheppard is the best peds dentist in town. My son had cavities at age of 5-6, three of them, and Dr. Sheppard did filling on them and did one crown on a tooth that had chipped a bit. He did more than excellent job on all my son's tooth procedures and one time he sang to my 5 year old the whole time he was performing procedure. His loving and caring and professionalism really impress me. His staff are so friendly too ! so glad he moved to an independent location and much brighter office in north county, a bit of more driving for us but in the end, it's all worth it.

I have been working with Dr. Sheppard for years. It made me so happy when he decided to move his location to North County. My office serves patients that drive up to 2 hrs to see us. Being closer to our office has been wonderful. Now patients from our area have a pediatric dentist for their needs. Being a specialist means Dr. Sheppard had specialized training to work with children. This is very very very important. I work with many dentists. Because they do not have this training, they are forced to send their young patients to me so I can help them with the growth and development needs of their children. My services in this area are normally free, but Dr. Sheppard has been trained to also understand and manage the growth and development of children. He is a kind, gentle, ethical person who absolutely has his patients' best interest in mind. I would not hesitate a minute in accepting his recommendations. He is not aggressive. In fact, being a parent he treats his patients not only as a doctor but as a father. Lenk Orthodontics loves Dr. Sheppard and supports him 100%.

I am so pleased with the staff here. My daughter had a dental urgency that caused her to not want to eat or drink and was in a lot of pain. I called the office and they were all booked up. They still were able to squeeze her in and ended up pulling the troubled tooth and she was so relieved. Dr Sheppard and his staff are wonderful!

We had a great experience with Dr. Sheppard and his staff for my daughters first dental appointment and my sons first cleaning. They were so patient and kind. I highly recommend them for young children!

Ignore the bad reviews. I went today with my 3 year old for his first visit. We had the best experience. If you are lucky enough to get Rose, you will leave smiling. The dentist was also wonderful, kind, and gentle with my son's first visit. Very thankful we found the place!

I would give this office more than five stars if I could. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and Dr. Sheppard is, without a doubt, one of the kindest and most caring people you will ever meet. Every time we visit I am simply astonished at how wonderful he is with kids. My oldest daughter went in for a tooth extraction, and somehow he was able to make even that experience a positive one for her. Highly recommend this location to anyone with kids.

Would give zero if I could. They seem to be all about the money and not well being of child. If you are looking for a conservative dentist this shouldn't be your choice. I got second and third opinions and all of them told me this dentist was way too aggressive in his treatment plan. I drove over an hour to a fabulous practice to treat my child as their own.
