Dr. T. James Dix, Dr. Allen D. Bernstein and the members of our team are dedicated to serving our community with advanced treatments and comprehensive education. Recent studies have shown an intrinsic relationship between your oral, bodily, and mental health.
In his free time, you will likely find him outside. He enjoys backpacking and exploring National Parks, or competing in local half marathons. He also likes to spend his free time completing woodworking projects, like furniture-making and carving. He selected the name Riverwind Dental as a tribute to his personal and family connection to the Rappahannock River. He spent every boyhood summer along the River, and still devotes many of his weekends to oyster gardening. He and his family have improved the quality of the Chesapeake Bay by raising 25,000 oysters over the past 7 years.
He and his wife Connie have two children, six grandchildren, and a dog named Brubeck. In addition to his passion for dentistry, he enjoys spending time with his grandchildren and being at the beach. On his days off, he can be found riding his bike along the Capital Trail and other scenic areas that Richmond has to offer.

Everyone at this office was so nice and friendly. over the weekend I lost my temporary crown. The young lady that works the front desk was nice enough to squeeze me in on a Monday afternoon. When I arrived everyone was so nice. The doctor made me feel comfortable. I had a real nice visit.

On Sunday, I suffered a dental accident. Another Doctor I frequent suggested Doctor Dix & Riverwind Dental to handle my emergency repair. I called just after they opened and Dr. Dix asked me to come in to his office and he would see what could be done. A few hours later, their office called to inform me the repair was complete and ready for pickup. Same day! Before lunch, even. Wow. I needed to pick a new Dentist and it seems The Universe helped me do that. Friendly, professional, helpful. They exceeded my expectations.

Dr.Dix was very gentle and attentive while cleaning my teeth today. The office at Riverwind Dental was very cheerful and efficient. My family will be definitely around for years to come!

Such an amazing office.! I had a great experience at Riverwind Dental. Coming from someone who has extreme anxiety when it comes to dentist appointments, the entire staff made me feel welcome and eased my anxiety! I left my appointment around noon before 2 pm I referred them to three people! I highly recommend you visit Riverwind Dental!

My first experience here today went well. Dr Dix has a terrific chair-side manner, always friendly and comforting & explained my options & not just the expensive ones. So If you're looking for a dentist, there is no reason to look further.

Extremely courteous receptionists. The dental team was so knowledgeable and kind, and Dr. Ha was awesome. This office was clean, with Covid precautions and deserves a 5 star rating.

I am not much for recommendations. I am, generally speaking, more relationship oriented than I am transactional. I have never rated my online purchases of socks and underwear; that seems pointless. With Riverwind Dental and Dr. Dix, in particular, I depart from my norm. It is important to recognize excellence and service where it lives and it is alive and well at Riverwind Dental. It is an unfortunate truth that many of my friends, family, associates, employees an online followers look at picking a dentist or obtaining dental services like a choice between death or misery. That is rarely the case but it is definitely not true with Dr. Dix and his team at Riverwind Dental. I can't say for sure; I don't know it to be the case but it does seem like everyone at Riverwind Dental holds certificates in human relations, professional bedside manner, caring, compassion and service excellence on top of their medical/dental credentials. More often than not, when being asked for a recommendation for a good dentist I am speaking to someone in desperate need of care and in pain; they don't want/need to resolve their issue with added pain and stone-cold instruments. They definitely don't want/need to deal with someone who asks about their insurance coverage before calming their fears and listening to their needs. I suppose that, over the past many years, I have presented myself to Dr. Dix and his staff as more needy than most. I have a very low tolerance for pain and due to very poor dental care until I was in the U.S. Navy, have had a need for more extractions, root-canals, tooth repair, infection abatement and general dental services than most. I have always taken comfort in knowing that, with one call - day or night, I can receive the professional care and attention that I need - pain free. I have even gone so far as getting on an airplane and flying 2000 miles into Richmond to have a procedure completed and then getting back on a plane within two hours to fly back to work. I trust Dr. Dix. I believe in him and his staff. I know - actually know - that, no matter what, I will be cared for.

I have been going to this practice since moving to Richmond several years ago. I've moved frequently, and over the years have had root canals and caps, as well as routine dental care. Because of the extensive knowledge, care, and concern of Dr. Dix along with the professionalism and friendliness of staff, I continue to actually look forward to going to the dentist. Purely by coincidence, I met and married a man who also was patient of Dr. Dix, and has been equally satisfied.

My hours of work makes it difficult for a normal appointment. I came in early and I was greeted warmly. My appointment was completed by 7:45 am and I was able to start work at 8:30. Thank you for the accommodation!

I truly love Riverwind from the receptionists to Sherri & Dr.Dix . They are knowledge understanding and most importantly just genuine good humans. If you're looking for a primary dental home, 10/10 recommend them.

I have been coming to Riverwind Dental for upwards of a decade and have always had a positive experience. Sherry Whitlock is an excellent dental hygienist who makes cleanings as enjoyable as anything can be when it involves someone rooting around your mouth with metal instruments. Riverwind recently transitioned ownership smoothly, with its venerable founder, Dr. Bernstein, retiring this June and being succeeded by Dr. Dix, who made a great impression as a kind and well-qualified dentist. The office staff are also very helpful and friendly. I would recommend this practice to friends and family.
