He completed his residency and practiced general dentistry for four years in the U.S. Air Force. He then returned to the University of Texas to specialize in orthodontics.
Dr. Chaffee has practiced in Coeur dAlene since 1993. He finalized his ABO Board Certification in 2003, becoming the first board certified orthodontist in the Coeur dAlene area. He is also a member of the prestigious Northwest Component of the Edward H. Angle Society. These organizations are unique in that they require members to demonstrate their abilities in orthodontic treatment planning and finishing in front of their peers, and as a result they all push their members to be the best that they can be. In 2000 he received the C.T. Roland Award from the Texas Orthodontic Study Club, an award given to the new member with the most impressive and well-treated cases.
Dr. Chaffee strongly believes in evidence-based orthodontics and individualized treatment planning for each patient. He is one the leading experts in the United States in the area of orthodontic skeletal anchorage. He has published several recent articles, as well as a textbook chapter. He lectures both nationally and internationally, including presentations at the annual conventions of the American Association of Orthodontists and the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
He loves spending time in the outdoors, enjoys gardening, backpacking, photography, pack goats, and fishing. He and his wife Susan have two grown children (Kyle and Rachel) and one granddaughter. Since the kids are grown, Dr. Chaffee decided to take up photography and hiking with his new kids pack goats.
Im Jill, the financial and scheduling coordinator. Ive had the pleasure of working for Dr. Chaffee for over 15 years. Our staff is so fun; coming to work doesnt even feel like work. My favorite part of my job is getting to know our patients and parents throughout treatment.
I married my best friend, Buddy, in 1989. We have two children, Nikki and Nathan. Our daughter and her husband have blessed us with two amazing grandsons. We are big Gonzaga basketball fans, and I really love coming to work when our Zags beat Dr. Chaffees Aggies! In the summer, we love our garden and especially enjoy comparing with Dr. Chaffee on who has the biggest tomatoes and strawberries. (P.S. Its always me!!)
My name is Kim. I am an RDA. I decided to go back to school to get my dental assisting degree after having my youngest child. I have over 5 years of orthodontic experience. I went into ortho because I had braces as a child and as an adult! I remember how great the staff was and helped calm my nerves, and I wanted to be able to do that for someone as well. My favorite is our surgical cases, and seeing the before and after. I love our outgoing and caring staff! It never feels like work here- we are always having fun and laughing!
In my free time, I love spending time with my husband, two kids, and our two English bulldogs, Hoss and Millie. We are a sports-loving family, and are very busy with coaching and cheering our kids on every weekend. If you are a Green Bay Packers fan, then you are my new best friend! GO PACK GO!
Hello, Im Maddi! I am the treatment coordinator here at Riverstone Orthodontics. I fell in love with orthodontics when I was a patient of Dr. Chaffees, and now I have the pleasure to be working along-side him. I started cleaning instruments after school in high school, in 2017. I moved up to lab technician and assistant and now to front office. Having the knowledge from assisting is helpful to explain treatment to new patients. I love meeting every new patient that comes through the door and seeing the transformation through treatment. I hope to meet you soon!
