RiverStone Health was created in 2008 as a single identity and umbrella organization to reflect all of our services. We grew out of the Yellowstone City-County Health Department (YCCHD), which began providing public health services to our community in 1974.

In our role as the Yellowstone City-County Health Department, (YCCHD) we have led public health efforts to protect safety and well-being. But RiverStone Health is far more than simply a local public health department.

  • In our medical and dental clinics, we see 20,000 patients a year, more than half of whom are uninsured. Our clinics are part of a network of Community Health Centers, supported by federal government grants. The funding enables us to provide healthcare to all, regardless of their ability to pay. Low-income and uninsured patients rely on our sliding fee scale. In addition to our main RiverStone Health Clinic, we have satellite clinics in Bridger, Joliet, and Worden, plus a school-based health center at Orchard Elementary School in Billings, which opened in the spring of 2015.
  • Through the Montana Family Medicine Residency, we attract and train doctors to help meet Montanas shortage of family practice physicians, with nearly 70 percent of those doctors staying in Montana. We are one of the first eleven Teaching Health Centers in the country and our Family Medicine Residency was the first graduate medical education program in Montana.
  • Through our Family Health Services, with well-known services such as WIC, the supplemental nutrition program for Women, Infants and Children, and lesser known services such as Maternal Child Health and the Nurse-Family Partnership, we help families and young children improve their lives.
  • Through Hospice Services, we care for individuals with dignity at the end of their lives and are recognized for our excellence in quality compassionate care by the Community Health Accreditation Program (CHAP). We care for individuals with terminal illnesses in their own homes, but we are so committed to providing the full range of services that in 2011 we built the 12-bed RiverStone Health Hospice Home on Billings West End, which offers a level of medical care normally associated with hospitals. It is the only such facility in a nearly 200 mile radius.
  • Our Public Health efforts to prevent infectious diseases, improve health, prepare for public health emergencies and safeguard the food we eat and the air we breathe, make our whole community a safer and better place to live. We were recognized for our efforts by the Public Health Accreditation Board and became one of the first 50 health departments in the nation to be accredited.
  • We serve our communities by providing HELP Health, Education, Leadership and Protection. By actively engaging in community health initiatives, issues and concerns, we combine the strength of government with the power of vision in an entrepreneurial model that transforms how we think of public health.

At the core of the RiverStone Health staff is our leadership team, a group of individuals whose vision, innovation and passion have made RiverStone Health a quality provider of primary care and public-health services in southeastern Montana.

We accept most insurance plans and provide clinic services to anyone in need, regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay. As a federally funded Community Health Center, RiverStone Health Clinics offer a sliding fee scale that allows us to adjust charges for healthcare services based on income and family size. In addition, we accept payment from Medicare, Medicaid, Healthy Montana Kids and private health insurance plans. If you are uninsured, we can help you find health insurance coverage that fits your needs and your budget.

We provide care for the whole family, from pre-natal care, caring for infants and children to aging adults. We work with you in screening, preventing and managing chronic diseases like diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure or heart disease. We can also help you get dental care or behavioral health counseling. The RiverStone Health Pharmacy is the only pharmacy on Billings South Side, meeting the needs of our patients and community residents.

RiverStone Health Clinic is a unique model of care. We are governed by a Board of Directors, the majority of the Board members are patients of the Clinic. This governance model ensures that we are always providing the right care at the right time.

Each of the four RiverStone Health Clinics is individually recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance as a Patient-Centered Medical Home. We were the first clinics in the region to have received this national recognition. Having a medical home means we coordinate your healthcare needs. So that when you are sick, hurt, need medicine or need an exam, you see the same team of medical providers. You build a partnership with your medical team. Your providers know your health status, your medications, and your health history, which helps you get the best possible care.

Our online, secure health portal allows you to communicate with your healthcare provider and get access to your medical record. This tool helps you better manage your care and communicate with your healthcare team.

The best way to improve your health is to establish a relationship with a primary care provider before you get sick. During the visit, we can help you understand the preventative steps you can take to stay healthy.

We accept most health insurance plans, including Medicaid, Medicare, Montana HELP Plan and Healthy Montana Kids. Montana Medicaid expansion, through the Montana HELP Plan, is available to Montana residents, ages 19 through 64, who meet income guidelines.

RiverStone Health Clinic receives HHS funding and has Federal PHS status with respect to certain health or health-related claims, including medical malpractice claims for itself and its covered individuals.

The RiverStone Health Clinic Board of Directors reviews and revises healthcare policies, including the scope and availability of services and quality of care for the federally-qualified health center (Clinic) and Healthcare for the Homeless program. In conjunction with RiverStone Health, the Clinic Board also assures that the Clinic operates in compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.

Why youre committed to serving on the board: I joined the Board many years ago because I believed RiverStone Health (then the Deering Clinic) was providing very important services to a population that traditionally has difficulty accessing appropriate medical care. I am a patient of RiverStone Health and I thought my experiences as a consumer would benefit the Board. I am also a big fan of the residency program we offer. RiverStone Health is an excellent place to develop primary care skills and a large percentage of the graduating residents choose to remain in Montana serving communities as primary/family physicians. It has been my honor to serve on the RiverStone Health Clinic Board.

Why youre committed to serving on the board: Like they say, youre never too old to learn. It is nice to see what is going on in our community and with government issues on heath. I also am a sounding board for people who have a problem or questions on RiverStones operations and policies, etc. People talk to me and I have a few suggestions on better policies.

Why youre committed to serving on the board: I wish to empower, serve and support the diverse community of Billings in order to promote the availability of quality and compassionate health and wellness services.

Why youre committed to serving on the board: I am committed to serving on the RiverStone Health Clinic Board because I have always volunteered in the community and I recognize the importance of health in all aspects of humanity. As a member of a diverse population myself, and as someone who utilized the clinic in my younger years, I feel a connection to the mission of the Clinic and to the staff who so selflessly make this their lifes work. I am passionate about mental and behavioral health issues because that influences every aspect of healthcare and I see that as a future challenge. I have been impressed with the kindness and quality of care provided by the staff, as well as the professionalism and attitude of the board members with whom I serve. I have a difficult time calling it service, because it is my privilege to know and work with such outstanding people.

Why youre committed to serving on the board: I was asked and recommended by my personal physician. Im only familiar with the Worden Clinic facility, but being selfish, I appreciate not having to drive to Billings.

Career: Vice President of Accounting, WMK & Western States Steel Erection Cos Year joined board: 2020 Why youre committed to serving on the board: I believe that RiverStone Health is an avenue for individuals to create better lives for themselves, their family and their community. Not everyone has the financial wherewithal to receive healthcare, but this should not exclude them from access to care. The Foundation supports a system where one gets more than just a checkup, they get a holistic approach that includes the education needed for a better life.

I think a major issue for consumers on the horizon is healthcare costs in general. The way the healthcare system is set up, consumers are voicing their concerns on the price of healthcare, but operating a healthcare facility is not inexpensive. The United States will try to find the happy medium between cost and operation of a healthcare facility, but it will be too difficult to solve. We are already seeing independent healthcare facilities merging with major hospitals to reduce operating costs so the focus can be on the patient which should be the concern for any healthcare facility.

Why youre committed to serving on the board: It is an honor to have a part in serving on this board. We deal with a variety of subjects, all aimed at providing the best medical care to those outside of the cities. It is important to know those we are serving and those who are serving them. As board members, we deal with both. Being on the RiverStone Health Clinic Board has been a time of learning.

Why youre committed to serving on the board: Having an interest in health care for populations at risk, I served in the U.S. Public Health Service at the end of my residency training. I have been involved in community health centers in one way or another for 33 years. I continue to be convinced the community health centers provide a vital service in ways that would not otherwise happen for folks that need these services.

Why youre committed to serving on the board: Public health is a cornerstone to a healthy and productive community and is essential in maintaining access to healthcare for all constituents. As a community leader it is my duty to model the importance of caring for others, and to be a part of a solutions-based approach in meeting community needs.

In looking to the future it will be imperative we inform and support our community with the challenges surrounding mental health. My passion is to implement effective interventions beginning with our youth, and work to establish a framework of supports that allow for individuals to access quality care throughout their adult lives.

They try to help and for the most part do very good. 90% of the staff is exceptional. However there is always that one Dr that really just hates to be part of a good team. I would highly recommend them but, ask questions, get answers and don't be afraid to say no if things don't seem quite right.

Ive been here several times already. For cleanings, root canals and fillings. This clinic does not offer sedation. I had my wisdom teeth pulled at another dentist via their reccomendation. Doctors were nice and courteous at riverstone. Going here is never a bad experince. The doctors will work with you and answer questions as asked. Office staff are kind as well. Communication is key.

So I called yesterday with a bit of an emergency needing my chipped tooth(that they had fixed previously) fixed again and the lady on the phone gives me 3 numbers for other dentists. Doesn't offer me an appointment at all. Thanks so much for 'caring'.

Went in with my little brother because he cracked a tooth and exposed a nerve. Hes been in non-stop pain for 3 days now and not to mention there appointments are no earlier the 2 months out. So we go in at 7am in the morning hoping to fill in somewhere. So they take us back and do some X-rays and all we are trying to do is get the tooth pulled. So the "dentist" and his "help" start talking and she tells him he has almost 2 hours before his next appointment and he replies with "i just don't want to be late for my next appointment.." and tells us we have to reschedule for another time which is 2 months away and take Tylenol.... This dentist obviously doesn't understand the pain of an exposed nerve medication isn't the answer my brother needed his help and we got turned away because he was being lazy... loser

My wife went in today for a exam filling and cleaning. My wife was pregnant she just had our son . They will not work on a pregnant woman she has been waiting .The lady she made the appointment with told her ther appointment was for all three. Also all three could be done in one visit.cleaning exam and filling She came In thinking these procedures was going to happen . They did her exam then told her to schedule for cleaning and filling . My wife said I came today for 3 procedures not just exam . She then told my wife she had another appointment can she stay for her cleaning till 330 . They did the cleaning then made her wait all they way till October when she has been waiting 9 months since being pregnant for fillings . It was her initial reason for calling bad customer service no one is on the same page . Stop blaming everything on the pandemic you just was rude and didn't even apologize for the mix up
