Tamar is originally from Portland. She enjoys helping patients achieve the smile of their dreams. She has experience working with patients of all ages and has training in the latest technologies. For Tamar, she does not just clean teeth. It is a whole-health approach focusing on the patients overall health.
Tamie is a native Oregonian who began working in the dental field in high school. She loves getting to know her patients and seeing happy smiles. She works with a wonderful team, including Dr. Tran, and believes that their caring treatment of their patients is proof.
In addition to the dental field, Tamie loves spending time with her three grown children, her husband, and her Goldendoodle, Bentley. She also enjoys camping in their RV, traveling, music and curling up with a good book.
She has a passion for teeth and helping others. She loves getting to know each patient on a personal level. For Jessica, working in the dental field is rewarding. It is about being a part of a team and making someone feel comfortable to smile.
Dr. Tran considers himself a native Oregonian, coming from Vietnam when he was just 4 years old. After graduating from Sunset High School, he moved to Corvallis Oregon to attend Oregon State University where he earned his undergraduate degree in Biology. He continued his studies at OHSU School of Dentistry and received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree (DMD). Dr. Tran practiced general dentistry for many years until he decided to further his education, specializing in Periodontics. He continued advancing his skills through intensive surgical, periodontal, and implant training with top professionals in the field.
Dr. Tran enjoys attending and speaking at study groups around the Portland area. His desire to give meaningful information and care extends not only to those who practice dentistry, but also to those who seek his service. Dr. Tran has a genuine love for his work and is committed to providing quality care while making each patient feels part of the family at Riverplace Periodontics.
Dr. Tran and his wife Melodee have three children, two girls and a boy. Their eldest daughter is currently pursuing a career in nursing, their middle daughter is working at earning her undergrad degree, majoring in business and their youngest son is finishing high school with plans to follow in his fathers footsteps. The entire family shares a love for road trips that often lead to visiting friends and family in Canada and to the happiest place on earth, Disneyland!
Dr. Nguyen was born and raised in the Portland area and her journey into dentistry began at Pacific Lutheran University where she played soccer and tennis and also met her husband, Tuan. After graduating cum laude with two degrees, she went on to attend Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) where she received her four-year Army Health Professional Scholarship. During her active-duty assignment in Kaiserslautern, Germany, she discovered her interest in dental surgery while participating in a one-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency.
Dr. Nguyen continued to strengthen her dental expertise during the next three years as one of the only general dentists in a large specialty clinic. After serving in the military and exploring Europe with her husband and dogs, Dr. Nguyen returned to OHSU for a three year periodontal residency in 2008.
She is now a board-certified periodontist, and is the recent president of the Oregon Society of Periodontics. Since completing her residency, she has developed a passion for nutrition and has a blog called nutritionfororalhealth.com. She is committed to providing individualized treatments with a caring touch in the greater Portland area and looks forward to many years of serving patients with skillful and compassionate care. When not at the office she enjoys playing sports and being outdoors in the company of her husband, three young children, three dogs, and a number of chickens.
Dr. Lowen grew up locally in Damascus, Oregon. She graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in Biomedical Engineering. She went on to attend dental school at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio where she graduated with honors. She completed her residency training in periodontics with a masters degree from the University of Washington. During her residency she focused on advanced periodontal surgical techniques, implant dentistry, microsurgery and sedation dentistry.
Dr. Lowen returned home to Portland after her residency and practiced periodontics in the Portland metropolitan area for nearly 10 years before joining the team at Riverplace Periodontics. She spent the last 7 years working at Kaiser Permanente where she focused on complex multi-disciplinary cases and implant dentistry. She enjoys attending and speaking at study groups and staying on top of new advances in the field. She strives to provide the highest quality care in a relaxing and comfortable environment. She enjoys working with kids and adults and takes into consideration the person as a whole while focusing on oral health.
Dr. Lowen and her husband Chris met in Sydney, Australia during college. They have two young daughters, Reese & Rorie. They enjoy spending time outdoors in the Pacific NW (snow skiing, biking, and swimming are family favorites) and traveling to Australia to visit family and friends.

After I read the disclosure form they asked me to sign about no holding them accountable for a myriad of things that could go wrong, I was VERY apprehensive about continuing and almost walked out. My conversation with Dr. Tran didn't do a whole lot to ease my anxiety, but I understand he couldn't make guarantees. I actually prayed about what to do and had a feeling of peace and calm, so I went ahead with the procedure. It turns out I had nothing to be concerned about. Dr. Tran is very skilled and fast and has a marvelous "chair side" manner. I was extremely pleased with the procedure and one day later I have absolutely no pain from the two tooth extractions. His assistant, Megan was a delight and the front office gal is amazing! I am no longer apprehensive!!!

Dr. Tran and his team were amazing from the start. Each of his techs and receptionists are incredibly friendly and helpful! Dr. Tran completed a gum graft for me, and it turned out AMAZING. He was very kind and helpful, and explained the procedures, aftercare, etc. in a comprehensive way. I 100% recommend him to anyone who may need periodontal work!

A small, homey practice where receptionists, assistants and dentists alike treat you like family - even on your first visit. They greet you as if they've known you forever - even on your first visit, and then move you through every interview, Xray and exam with complete ease. Dr. Lowen is a sweetie - and she explains everything so clearly. They make every accommodation to get you an appointment as soon as possible. They explain financial concerns completely. It's like going to your family dentist.... but they have very special and fabulous skills!!! Thank you to the entire staff.

Everyone is amazing. Although procedures can be painful, the quality of work is outstanding and he explains what he's doing during a procedure. Work staff is very helpful and personal. Great work everyone!

From the moment I walked into Riverplace Periodontics the entire staff was welcoming, kind, and caring. That especially includes Dr. Tran who is fantastic! He is not only extremely knowledgeable and skillful, he is also very empathetic. He made it a point to keep me informed of exactly what we were working on every step of the way to make sure I had a good understanding of everything which I found extremely comforting and helpful. I highly recommend this place. Dr. Tran is an amazing doctor - he has an excellent patience to take time to talk to iPad to translate for me because I am deaf. He explains the process so clear that makes me feel more comfortable. His service and staff are so friendly and so welcome. Thank you Dr Tran for a great job on soft tissue graft on my lower teeth. It looks so healthy now.

Love this place and Dr. Tran. I've had gum grafting before from a different place and was told at the time that synthetic grafting was not a good option, so I went through the worst experience in my entire life. Three years later and I've had two gum grafting surgeries so far with Dr. Tran and literally the only awful part is the local anesthetic shots. I'm so happy with the synthetic grafts and the healing process with them. Dr. Tran is super nice and polite, as are his assistants. If you've ever sort of experienced a drowning sensation with a build-uo of your own saliva at a dentist before, you don't have to worry about that with his assistants.

Dr. Tran and his entire team were very professional, knowledgeable, and courteous from the time I was first introduced to them. They made me feel very much at ease and all my questions and concerns were answered. The procedure went very smoothly with very little discomfort. Over the course of several years, I had 4 gum graft surgeries at Riverplace. My insurance refused to cover the last surgery, citing a consulting doctor's opinion that it was unnecessary. Now, an insurance company refusing to cover a procedure is pretty par for the course in today's nightmarish American medical system and certainly not the fault of Riverplace. What is their fault is that they ghosted me when I requested the appeal documentation to be sent to me. Since the insurance company denied the initial appeal, I wanted the documentation so I could source a 3rd neutral doctor's opinion. Did they not want me to have it in order to hide that they prescribed an unnecessary procedure? Or did my voicemails just get lost in the shuffle? I'll never know. What I do know is that if things start to get hairy with an insurance company, Riverplace won't have your back. They're not interested in your ability to pay or backing up their opinions when another doctor questions it. The debt collectors will be loosed. Lesson learned for me: always seek a second opinion.

Brought my Father-in-law there for an abscess and broken tooth. Dr. Nguyen was very helpful and friendly. She did an extremely good job taking the broken tooth out and stitching up the abscess up. My FIL was amazed how fast and efficient it went, he didn't feel a thing. He said she made him feel very safe and comfortable. He highly recommends Dr. Nguyen.

Like many others, my dentist recommended Dr. Tran for my severe periodontal disease. For transparency, I had pockets in my gums measuring in the double digits. Too, I experienced gum pain/ache several weeks per month. I had all but lost hope of keeping many of my teeth. DR. Tran was honest with his prognosis but offered hope when he suggested Laser Therapy. My one-year post-surgery exam occurred last week. Every pocket in my gums has been dramatically reduced, with most now reading in the healthy zone. Equally important, my constant gum aches are gone. The entire staff at Riverplace Periodontics have always treated me with compassion and demonstrated that they genuinely care about my health. I know that health care is a very personal decision. If you are looking for a team to help you with your dental needs, you should give these folks a chance - you will not be sorry. God bless!

From the first call and talking to Chris, I could tell this office was very special and professional. Chris made the new patient orientation very easy. With COVID they did such an amazing job letting me know all safety precautions being made for my safety as well as theirs. Dr. Tran and his assistant were so warm and I immediately felt at ease being there. Dr. Tran did an amazing job explaining what procedure needed to be done and I appreciated his thoroughness in explaining the treatment. I had crown lengthening done on several teeth and it was the best experience. The end result is better than I had even expected. As a dental hygienist , I felt blessed to go to the best to have my treatment done. With his reputation I knew it had to be him. I am beyond thrilled. Thank you, Dr. Tran!
