We provide a variety of services based on the needs of the communities that we serve, including primary medical, dental, and behavioral health. All people are welcome to receive care regardless of their insurance status and ability to pay. For those that qualify we have a sliding fee scale that is based on income.
We are deeply involved in our communities providing dental and behavioral health in schools, taking dental care to nursing homes, and working with WIC Women, Infants, and Children. Since our opening in 2008, we aim to fill the gaps in healthcare and to fulfill our vision of healthy, prosperous, engaged communities where everyone thrives.
Federally Qualified Health Centers have advocates across all political parties and halls of government. Its an easy thing to get behind. One of our jobs as a health center is to stay in touch with those who represent us in government. Policies and plans can and do effect peoples health so when we need to share information that can influence and advocate for our communities and our patients we have mechanisms in place to do just that.
The Board of Directors is a governing body of a non-profit organization and an FQHC. Individuals who sit on a Board of Directors oversee our activities, and they meet periodically throughout the year to discuss and vote on the affairs of our organization, the mission, strategy, and goals.
We are always seeking applications for patients who are interested in becoming a board member. If youre interested in becoming a board member and are a patient, please fill out the Board Self-Nomination Form and email it to marketing@nlccwi.org.
It all started when a group of citizens in northern Wisconsin got together because they saw gaps in the healthcare resources in their community. They dug in and did the work to design a solution to address those needs. They submitted a grant application for federal funding, and they got it.
In 2008, a building that had previously been a home, a winery, a coffee shop, and who knows what else became The Lakes Community Health Center in Iron River, Wisconsin. They also worked with the city of Ashland to open up a dental clinic, but that was only the beginning.
In 2013, The Lakes had the opportunity to grow and help to serve more communities. They merged with North Woods Community Health Center. North Woods, which was created in 1976 by a similar community group, had clinic locations in Hayward and Minong. The new organization changed its name to NorthLakes Community Clinic.
NorthLakes patient-majority board believes that there are many healthcare facilities in our service area that could benefit from joining an FQHC. The following organizations have also joined NorthLakes:

In addition to our clinical services, we also have community outreach programs that are active in 20 counties. Our community outreach programs include: School-Based Behavioral Health Active in 22 school districts across 11 counties.

Dr. Rena and assistant harshly criticized my daughter even though we are finally able to seek treatment post-pandemic. Do not recommend.

Expect months and months down the road. Even if you are a regular. And if they say they'll call you, don't expect one back. I've been waiting for a call starting in 2020. Just got through today. With me calling every month. DO NOT GO HERE.

MOVED APPOINTMENT TWO WHOLE MONTHS WITHOUT TELLING US! Back in August scheduled my children's next appointments for seven months later, I know it's supposed to be six months but this way they could be during their spring break, on a day I knew I wouldn't have work. That way they aren't missing school and I'm not missing work. Two weeks before their appointments I got a call where they said that they needed to reschedule at least one of the appointments. I was told that they could still see one child but not both. I told them to keep my youngest child on the original day and scheduled my oldest appointment for the next available time they had available, over a month later. Now she is missing school and I work. I wasn't thrilled but I understood and accepted it because I was forwarned. I confirmed both children's appointments and put them in my calendar. THEN, I took my youngest in for her appointment today (April 21) and found out that they didn't have her scheduled until the end of May! Now her appointment is nine months after her last one and at a date and time that we are not even available! I think not! You don't change a person's appointment without telling them to whenever is convenient to you! VERY UNPROFESSIONAL and a waste of my time!

Our Daughter was a patient of Dr Rena, we were canceled on for "Personal" reasons at 10pm at night. They then rescheduled us for 70 days down the road. It turns out they've completely sold the practice and Dr Rena is involved by name only. If you are looking for the same practice you've visited previously you're in for a surprise. Very bad business practices and very deceptive. They've lost this patient.

They were rude because I was at work and could not fix an insurance situation in one hour. They called me back the day before my appointment to tell me they hav an insurance issue and then cancel my appointment that I waited for months for without consulting with me!!! Seriously ??!!

Staff is great when you arrive but worse office to call and try to get a hold of. I sat in the office one day while my kids were there for a cleaning, we were the only patients there. I decided to call the office while sitting there to figure out why I can never get a hold of them and the front desk lady doesn't answer but is busy talking about outside of work related things.

River Valley Pediatric Dental is an outstanding dental practice. They are very professional, yet personable. My daughter actually enjoys going to the dentist! Everyone there is so friendly and helpful. Dr. Rena is very caring and patient. She takes the time to thoroughly explain things to the parents, and also to the kids. I've never been more satisfied with a dental practice, and I recommend River Valley Pediatric Dental to any of my friends or family who have children and are looking for a dental home.

I highly recommend Dr. Rena and her staff. Our experience started as a referral from our previous dentist for both of my daughters needing cavities filled. Our first visit involved both girls having x-rays, upon inspection one of my kids had no cavities and the second daughter needed more work than what was recommended by our first dentist. The staff made our first visit very fun and calming for the girls. Last night my middle girl had a cap fall off. My husband, daughter and I were super scared. Dr. Rena was able to see us right away to repair the cap. Everyone made the scary situation a positive and reassuring one. I was so appreciative of the fast and friendly service we had.

Staff are really rude and doesn't communicate well. They wanted my daughter to go in surgery and said they would call me to schedule it, they never did. They also treat you like you are a bad person. I dont know if its because I have badgercare. I feel unsafe taking my kids here.

A great group of caring individuals. My son has always had severe anxiety about going to the dentist and we tried a few. This is the only place that he has ever felt comfortable going to. Dr. Rena and staff are very friendly and do everything to make sure he knows what they are doing during his exam or dental work. I highly recommend!
