Are youconsidering dental implants? If you are missing one or more teeth, dental implants are your best option to receiving the most natural-looking, long-term results. There are numerous benefits to choosing dental implants, like easier eating, speaking, and maintenance of your restored smile. Dental implants also offer protection for your remaining healthy teeth and jaw bone from degeneration/attrition while maintaining your natural facial aesthetics. No need to worry about any sinking or sagging of the face that occurs due to tooth loss.

To Determine if you are a good candidate for implants, Dr. Swigert will perform a thorough oral exam, review your health history, and may also obtain imaging that will allow a thorough diagnosis and treatment plan for a predictable result. You can rest assured knowing that the surgical team at River Rock Oral Surgery & Implant Center has received extensive training in dental implant placement. Give us a call today; we would be happy to discuss your treatment in detail and answer any questions you have about the procedure.

By the age of 18, the average adult has 32 teeth: 16 teeth on the top and 16 on the bottom. Each tooth in the mouth has a specific name and function. The teeth in the front of the mouth (incisors, canine, and bicuspid teeth) are ideal for grasping and biting food into smaller pieces. The back teeth (molar teeth) are used to grind food for swallowing.

With an oral examination and x-rays of the mouth, Dr. Swigert can evaluate the position of the wisdom teeth and determine if theyare present or may causefuture problems. Studies have shown that early evaluation and treatment result in a superior outcome for the patient.

As a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, Dr. Ryan Swigert completed his four-year oral surgery residency followingdental school. This extra training enabled him to obtain his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Certificate, which allows numerous specialty treatmentsincluding complex tooth extractions (wisdom teeth, full mouth tooth extractions, etc.), Dental Implant Therapy, Bone/Soft Tissue Grafting and Sculpting, Maxillofacial Trauma, Pathology and Reconstruction, Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction treatment, and IV Sedation (both conscious and deep). Dr. Swigert is excited to offer this level of specialized care to the people of the Tri-StateArea.

He graduated from Dental School in Richmond, Virginia, at Virginia Commonwealth University. Because of his high academic standing, he was inducted into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honors Society. Dr. Swigert completed his Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Over a period of time, the jawbone associated with missing teeth atrophies is reabsorbed. This often leaves a condition in which there is poor quality and quantity of bone suitable for placement of dental implants. In these situations, most patients are not candidates for placement of dental implants.

With bone grafting, we now have the opportunity to not only replace bone where it is missing, but also the ability to promote new bone growth in that location! This not only gives us the opportunity to place implants of proper length and width, it also gives us a chance to restore functionality and esthetic appearance.

Autogenous bone grafts, also known as autografts, are made from your own bone, taken from somewhere else in the body. The bone is typically harvested from the chin, jaw, lower leg bone, hip, or the skull. Autogenous bone grafts are advantageous in that the graft material is live bone, meaning it contains living cellular elements that enhance bone growth.

However, one downside to the autograft is that it requires a second procedure to harvest bone from elsewhere in the body. Depending on your condition, a second procedure may not be in your best interest.

Allogenic bone, or allograft, is dead bone harvested from a cadaver, then processed using a freeze-dry method to extract the water via a vacuum. Unlike autogenous bone, allogenic bone cannot produce new bone on its own. Rather, it serves as a framework or scaffold over which bone from the surrounding bony walls can grow to fill the defect or void.

Xenogenic bone is derived from non-living bone of another species, usually a cow. The bone is processed at very high temperatures to avoid the potential for immune rejection and contamination. Like allogenic grafts, xenogenic grafts serve as a framework for bone from the surrounding area to grow and fill the void.

Both allogenic and xenogenic bone grafting are advantageous in that they do not require a second procedure to harvest your own bone, as with autografts. However, because these options lack autografts bone-forming properties, bone regeneration may take longer than with autografts, with a less predictable outcome.

This product is processed allograft bone, containing collagen, proteins, and growth factors that are extracted from the allograft bone. It is available in the form of powder, putty, chips, or as a gel that can be injected through a syringe.

Graft composites consist of other bone graft materials and growth factors to achieve the benefits of a variety of substances. Some combinations may include: collagen/ceramic composite, which closely resembles the composition of natural bone, DBM combined with bone marrow cells, which aid in the growth of new bone, or a collagen/ceramic/autograft composite.

Synthetic materials also have the advantage of not requiring a second procedure to harvest bone, reducing risk and pain. Each bone grafting option has its own risks and benefits. Dr. Swigert will determine which type of bone graft material is right for you.

There are very few reviews I can write without some criticism. But this is one. River Rock Oral Surgery in Kingman AZ is one place I can heartily recommend (as well as in Bullhead City. Didn't go to that office, but pretty sure it's run as nicely as the Kingman office). The office staff is first rate. I was nervous as all get out, but they had my best interests at heart. And Dr Ryan C Swigert...can't say enough GREAT about him. Very caring and sweet person. As a surgeon, the man is FIRST CLASS A#1. And I do NOT feel that I got soaked by an overpriced practice. His staff loves him, that speaks volumes! I HEARTILY RECOMMEND RIVER ROCK ORAL SURGERY. Thanks so much again, guys! Linda T (tough old bird)

Unexpected low staffing on the particular days I was trying to get anyone to answer the phone (37 attempts after leaving a voice mail the day before). Corrie finally called back with sincere apologies for the difficulty I was having just trying to make an appointment. The actual appointment day, all was well and now I understand all the glowing reviews! Great service from everyone. True professionals. Was truly worth all the previous hassle.

I just got my wisdom teeth removed today and let me say I don't remember a gosh darn thing. I went in this morning and Cori at the front desk explained everything to me. After that we went back and Dr.Swigert came in explained some more to me about the procedure. Stuck the Iv in my arm better and smoother then a phlebotomists at the hospital and within seconds I was out. I woke up in what felt like five minutes and was walked out to me car with all three of my teeth gone. Best dentist I have ever been too I would highly recommend!!!!

Dr Swigert and his staff are the best! Dr Swigert took time to explain every part of the procedure and was very gentle. His assistant was just as nice and made sure I was at ease before the Dr came in and was very professional while assisting him. I opted to be awake during the visit and the pain level was much lower than I expected. The office staff, from the first call to the completion of the visit, couldn't have been nicer.
