Are youconsidering dental implants? If you are missing one or more teeth, dental implants are your best option to receiving the most natural-looking, long-term results. There are numerous benefits to choosing dental implants, like easier eating, speaking, and maintenance of your restored smile. Dental implants also offer protection for your remaining healthy teeth and jaw bone from degeneration/attrition while maintaining your natural facial aesthetics. No need to worry about any sinking or sagging of the face that occurs due to tooth loss.

To Determine if you are a good candidate for implants, Dr. Swigert will perform a thorough oral exam, review your health history, and may also obtain imaging that will allow a thorough diagnosis and treatment plan for a predictable result. You can rest assured knowing that the surgical team at River Rock Oral Surgery & Implant Center has received extensive training in dental implant placement. Give us a call today; we would be happy to discuss your treatment in detail and answer any questions you have about the procedure.

By the age of 18, the average adult has 32 teeth: 16 teeth on the top and 16 on the bottom. Each tooth in the mouth has a specific name and function. The teeth in the front of the mouth (incisors, canine, and bicuspid teeth) are ideal for grasping and biting food into smaller pieces. The back teeth (molar teeth) are used to grind food for swallowing.

With an oral examination and x-rays of the mouth, Dr. Swigert can evaluate the position of the wisdom teeth and determine if theyare present or may causefuture problems. Studies have shown that early evaluation and treatment result in a superior outcome for the patient.

As a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, Dr. Ryan Swigert completed his four-year oral surgery residency followingdental school. This extra training enabled him to obtain his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Certificate, which allows numerous specialty treatmentsincluding complex tooth extractions (wisdom teeth, full mouth tooth extractions, etc.), Dental Implant Therapy, Bone/Soft Tissue Grafting and Sculpting, Maxillofacial Trauma, Pathology and Reconstruction, Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction treatment, and IV Sedation (both conscious and deep). Dr. Swigert is excited to offer this level of specialized care to the people of the Tri-StateArea.

He graduated from Dental School in Richmond, Virginia, at Virginia Commonwealth University. Because of his high academic standing, he was inducted into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honors Society. Dr. Swigert completed his Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Over a period of time, the jawbone associated with missing teeth atrophies is reabsorbed. This often leaves a condition in which there is poor quality and quantity of bone suitable for placement of dental implants. In these situations, most patients are not candidates for placement of dental implants.

With bone grafting, we now have the opportunity to not only replace bone where it is missing, but also the ability to promote new bone growth in that location! This not only gives us the opportunity to place implants of proper length and width, it also gives us a chance to restore functionality and esthetic appearance.

Autogenous bone grafts, also known as autografts, are made from your own bone, taken from somewhere else in the body. The bone is typically harvested from the chin, jaw, lower leg bone, hip, or the skull. Autogenous bone grafts are advantageous in that the graft material is live bone, meaning it contains living cellular elements that enhance bone growth.

However, one downside to the autograft is that it requires a second procedure to harvest bone from elsewhere in the body. Depending on your condition, a second procedure may not be in your best interest.

Allogenic bone, or allograft, is dead bone harvested from a cadaver, then processed using a freeze-dry method to extract the water via a vacuum. Unlike autogenous bone, allogenic bone cannot produce new bone on its own. Rather, it serves as a framework or scaffold over which bone from the surrounding bony walls can grow to fill the defect or void.

Xenogenic bone is derived from non-living bone of another species, usually a cow. The bone is processed at very high temperatures to avoid the potential for immune rejection and contamination. Like allogenic grafts, xenogenic grafts serve as a framework for bone from the surrounding area to grow and fill the void.

Both allogenic and xenogenic bone grafting are advantageous in that they do not require a second procedure to harvest your own bone, as with autografts. However, because these options lack autografts bone-forming properties, bone regeneration may take longer than with autografts, with a less predictable outcome.

This product is processed allograft bone, containing collagen, proteins, and growth factors that are extracted from the allograft bone. It is available in the form of powder, putty, chips, or as a gel that can be injected through a syringe.

Graft composites consist of other bone graft materials and growth factors to achieve the benefits of a variety of substances. Some combinations may include: collagen/ceramic composite, which closely resembles the composition of natural bone, DBM combined with bone marrow cells, which aid in the growth of new bone, or a collagen/ceramic/autograft composite.

Synthetic materials also have the advantage of not requiring a second procedure to harvest bone, reducing risk and pain. Each bone grafting option has its own risks and benefits. Dr. Swigert will determine which type of bone graft material is right for you.

I have horrible anxiety when it comes to dental procedures, and the day came when the procedure would be completed. I requested to be put under anesthesia and Corine at the front desk was so sweet by reassuring me everything would be OK and was very thorough with the instructions for before and after the procedure. Dr. Swigert answered all my questions with care and patience and no one made me feel embarrassed for having anxiety about my extractions. They treated me wonderfully, the 2 hour drive to their office was well worth it because it was an amazing experience.

Had dental surgery on 3/24/22. Staff is very professional, friendly, and helpful. Had all the information needed to have the surgery done, was comfortable and left with all info needed. The Surgeon even called me later that day to check up on me. I can highly recommend this business.

Probably the easiest and the least nerve wracking experience I have ever had at a dentist/ortho. Mr. Swigert and his staff are down to earth and are looking out for your best interest (which is a hard thing to say about any business). The amount of options and support they gave me was incredible and would recommend them to anyone in the area that needs serious dental work. Just had 7 teeth pulled today (corrosive saliva) and feel great, had one pulled in a while back at another place and was sick for 4 days.

I just got back from my appointment. The nurses where AMAZING and the dentist was absolutely wonderful. He distracted me from the numbing, which is my least favorite part and I hardly felt it. They are by far my favorite dentist in the area now.

I chose to have two teeth extracted instead of crowns from my dentist due to costs. Dr Sweigert and staff are very knowledgeable and professional with excellent customer service skills. Pain was at a minimum for the two extactions and afterwards.

This was my 2nd extraction done by Dr. Ryan Swigert. Office staff/dental staff A-1. Painless, or as close a possible - hope I don't need any other work, but if I do, Red Rock will get my approval. Thank you Ryan and staff.

I am terrified of the dentist! But Dr. Swigert's kind, warm, and understanding manner made me feel comfortable in the first five minutes of talking with him. I had 10 teeth extracted and experienced very little pain and bleeding afterward. I had anesthesia as well and usually have a very hard time with people finding my veins but he did right away and it did not hurt AT ALL!!! Dr. Swigert is truly the best oral surgeon I've every gone to!!! Sharon Graves Bullhead City, AZ
