Ritter Family Dental - General dentist in Massapequa, NY

Dr. Ritter graduated from NYU College of Dentistry in 2002. Prior to studying at NYU College of Dentistry, he graduated from Queens College and worked towards a Masters at Hofstra. Dr. Ritter has been practicing at his Massapequa Office since 2003, and in his Valley Stream Office since 2007. Since he began practicing dentistry, Dr. Ritter has kept up to date on many continuing educational classes, ensuring that his patients receive the most comprehensive and advanced dental care.

Dentures are a replacement for missing teeth that can be removed and put back into your mouth as you please. Depending on each individual patient case, they may receive full or partial dentures. Full dentures are used when all of the natural teeth are removed from the mouth and replaced with a full set of dentures. There are two types of full dentures.

Ritter Family Dental - General dentist in Massapequa, NY

Conventional Full Dentures This is when all the teeth are removed and the tissue is given time to heal before the dentures are placed. It could take a few months for the gum tissue to heal completely, and during this time you will be without teeth. Immediate Full Dentures Prior to having your teeth removed, your dentist takes measurements and has dentures fitted for your mouth. After removing the teeth, the dentures are immediately placed in your mouth. The benefit is that you do not have to spend any time without teeth. You will, however, need to have a follow up visit to refit your dentures because the jaw bone will slightly change shape as your mouth heels. The dentures will need to be tightened after the jaw bone has healed.

Your dentures may take some time to get used to. The flesh colored base of the dentures is placed over your gums. Some people say that it feels bulky or that they dont have enough room for their tongue. Other times the dentures might feel loose. These feelings will affect the way you eat and talk for a little while. Over time, your mouth becomes trained to eat and speak with your dentures and they begin to feel more and more like your natural teeth. They may never feel perfectly comfortable, but it is much better than the alternative of not having teeth.

Even though dentures are not real teeth, you should care for them like they are. You should brush them to remove plaque and food particles before removing your dentures. After they have been removed you should place them directly into room temperature water or a denture cleaning solution. Never use hot water because it could warp the dentures. Your dentures are delicate, so make sure you are careful when handling them so you dont drop them. Also, never try to adjust your dentures yourself. You could ruin them, so you should always seek assistance from your dentist if they feel uncomfortable or loose.

My husband has been a patient here for years and always says how great Dr. Ritter is so I finally made the switch and have no regrets. The staff is helpful and friendly, the office is clean and modern and I've never had to wait past my appointment time.

Dr. Ritter and his staff are professional and welcoming. He is amazingly talented and I was comfortable during a Root canal and crown preparation. Attentive to my questions and bedside manner was impeccable! Lucky to have found him and his staff!

I took my daughter Kayla here a few weeks ago. She had a cracked tooth and the staff was kind enough to fit her in asap. Upon arrival you fill out forms on an iPad, which is so convenient compared to a bunch of paper forms. The staff is super friendly and it makes you feel like you've known them all your life. You definitely get the family vibes from this place. Dr. Ritter is fantastic with kids and he eased my daughters mind about getting her work done. In fact, this was the first dentist I went to where my daughter felt comfortable enough to let me leave the room. All and all a great experience, and I was pleased with Dr Ritters work. I can't even tell my daughter had a cracked tooth. Will definitely be coming back here.

I called to make an appointment for a cleaning, told the receptionist I had Health first one, she sounds like she pushed her nose up at my low class ins. Excuse me.

Dr. Ritter and his whole staff were amazing, came.with my 3 year old for his first appointment at a dentist, Dr. Ritter was so patient and reassuring we were done in 5 minutes with no meltdown. As for myself and my husband quick, efficient cleaning and checkup. Always a joy going to the dentist when it's Dr. Ritter

Beware they are unwilling to release patient information and told me they "do not fax patient paperwork to other dental offices" (this is the case especially if you decide to leave their practice). This is how they put more pressure on the patient who is already having difficulty getting treatment time from their office and also they wish to cause delays so the patient cannot easily get treatment from elsewhere place as well. Just astonished at their this silly trick and I am surprised at the level they can stoop to!!!!

For this medical office money matters most than care giving to patients. They ask you to give money upfront (for my dad they asked over $16,000 and trust me they don't want anything to go through your insurance, all they want is cash payments right away) and when you are not able to give them money upfront, they don't give appointments (no matter what the urgency of the situation is). They are also not professional. They saw my dad's case as being complex and that he needed urgent treatment but they don't want to give him appointment because he is complex case and perhaps doctor either do not have ability/competency to treat patients with complex medical problems or they want to make more money (i say this because, they want to give him appointment a month from now and that is when my dad will not have medical insurance and I believe this delay is also so they can charge him more in cash and make treatment without insurance). Fun fact: they have appointment dates within this month available and that too for simple case patients or for new patients. So all this comes down to is money-hungry practice!!!!!!!! And how they can make the most money (trust me hosting patients without insurance plan is best way to make most money). Of course money is all above patient's pain and suffering. This is morally and ethically wrong and it is a shame that such offices prioritizes money over patient care itself and simple vs urgent cases... beware I was told simple cases gets handled within 5-10 min of treatment (so who know if you will get any thorough care or not). Usually I don't write reviews but I was compelled to in this case (especially when the staff is too rude and condescending in their behavior and verbal communication and I felt my review can help others decide whether they would like such an office and doctor to care for them and treat their issues and no patient should really suffer like my dad is at this point from lack of urgent care and extreme rudeness of this dental office (patients with complexes are sensitive case and they need to be handled with extreme care and empathy...they are in pain and human beings too)).

I am a new patient and was very pleased with how quickly I was taken in, no waiting, x-rays, and teeth cleaning done in 1/2 hour. All Covid protocols were followed. I was very comfortable. The layout is an open plan (no doors), which is so different from your typical doctors office. The staff are extremely nice and helpful. Unfortunately, I didn't take my dental health seriously and am paying for it now. I've gone to various dentists over the years that I wasnt comfortable with. Dr. Ritter and his staff make you feel like you've been there for 10 years. In addition to all this, within a week of my first visit, my son complained of a tooth ache. I called the office and they took him in immediately to find out he had an infection and needed root canal. He entered in pain and left with a smile We are both smiling now!

I know finding a good, gentle dentist is hard. I went from not going to the dentist out of fear, to now walking in smiling. He always is honest, gentile, and understanding. I went in today and felt comfortable with all of the precautions they are taking with covid. If you need a new dentist... Jay Ritter is amazing.

I am a new patient of Dr.Ritter and If I had an option of giving him 10 stars I would because he deserves it! The moment I walked into the office it felt warm and welcoming not typical of a dentist office, the office not only felt clean it was clean and of course plenty of hand sanitizer to go around if you needed a mask the staff was happy to give you one as one patient did. So it's my turn to see the Doc with my tooth hurting that's the reason I was going, the staff sets me up and takes X-rays with this state of the art machine, get my teeth cleaned without hurting now that's a plus, Dr.Ritter comes in welcomes me to the office does his exam and says you need a root canal now who wants to hear that! I say ok Doc what office are you going to send me to take care of my root canal he says nowhere I do it here and I can do it now and he did painlessly and comfortable for me from the numbing injection through the entire process putting my care and comfort first. Dr.Ritter and Ritter Family Dental is highly recommended. Happy New Patient not in pain anymore. Dominick

I followed Dr Ritter from his old practice to his new location on Merrick Rd at 4160 Merrick Road, Massapequa. He is very thorough, friendly and timely. I think he is the best dentist I've ever had. He also was my sons dentist until he left to college. Most importantly, I feel he is trustworthy unlike some dentists I've had years ago that always found something to charge me for. I highly recommend him. Also, he is open Sundays. That makes my life easier!
