Dr. Jonathan K. James is originally from Covington, Louisiana, about 30 miles north of New Orleans. He is co-owner of Rio Vista Dentistry in Harlingen, Texas where he practices cosmetic, restorative, TMJ/Facial Pain and implant dentistry. He obtained his bachelor of science degree in Biology in 1995 from Grambling State University and his doctor of dental surgery degree in 2000 from Marquette University School of Dentistry, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 2007, after practicing for seven years in Dallas, Texas, Dr. James, his wife Daneen and daughter Jordan relocated to Harlingen, Texas, to join the Rio Vista Dentistry team.
Dr. James has completed countless advanced continuing education courses over the years, ranging from the Center for Aesthetic Restorative Dentistrys restorative and masters series in Dallas, Texas to the Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Studies in Key Biscayne, Florida. In addition, he completed a yearlong 300 hours surgical maxicourse (TEXMAX) through the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and successfully passed the two-part credentialing exam which designates him as an Associate Fellow in the American Academy of Implant Dentistry. He continues to expand his skills and services by investing in extensive continuing education annually.
Just as Dr. James believes in the importance of continuing education to advance his training to better serve his patients, he believes it is just as important to give back to his profession through teaching and training other dental professionals. Dr. James has become a sought after motivational speaker, lecturer and presenter in the dental field. He has served as a mentor/visiting faulty for CERECDoctors.com in Scottsdale, Arizona since 2012 and lecturing for multiple local and state dental organizations such as the global dental implant company, Nobel Biocare. He has been voted to the Super Dentists lists in Texas Monthly Magazine by his dental colleagues for three consecutive years and is a member of the Future Leaders Advisory Council. He has also presented at the annual Dentists Who Care Conference, the Rio Grande Valley Dental Society and the South Texas Chapter of the Seattle Study Club, and the Texas Dental Associations annual meeting.

I have been a client at Rio Vista Dentistry for over 10 years. I don't have a single complaint. I have always received compassionate, professional, and knowledgeable care, from office staff, hygienists and Dr. James. All areas are immaculate and Covid precautions are strictly adhered to. Dr. James is always willing to answer questions and always up to date on new procedures.

Dr. James at Rio Vista has been my dentist for 11 years. He's an excellent dentist. Hygienist Maria is excellent as well. I've had very good service at Rio Vista. They are always professional and prompt.

Dr.James has been by far the best dentist that we have ever seen. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed by his friendly personnel. Once we met Dr.James and explained our issue he had a solution. Our case was complicated but with his brilliance and advanced technology (Cerec) Dr.James resolved our issues and gave us the best smile ever. I have been to many dental offices but I have never been so impressed. If you are looking for a genuine, trustworthy dentist with a great personality, I recommend this office. I will continue taking my family to Dr.James.

First time visiting this place on 8/16 ,it was an amazing experience and office is very clean thats a plus. The staff are very welcoming from as soon as you walk into the door it's just a different feeling compared to other dental offices ive visited before .. and Mrs boonie she made the experience less stressful and made sure that I was beyond comfortable and that i understood everything. I 100 % recommend this place for all your dental needs, she took the time to explain the process from what she saw on the x-rays to explaining the procedures and what was best for me. Went in as a new patient today, it was amazing. Everyone there is very nice and professional. I didn't have to wait to be seen, so that's always a mega plus. Dr. James did a great job explaining my treatment plan and had great energy, the dental assistant and hygienist were very informative as they walked me through the whole process. The office manager was able to schedule my next appointment within an appropriate time-frame that also accommodated to my schedule; so that was super great. I simply cannot say enough good things about Rio Vista Dentistry! I am a big baby when it comes to having dental work done. I was not a person that had dental work throughout my childhood, so I have needed more than a little filling here and there in my adult years. I have been other places and can honestly say I was traumatized by the experience. After breaking a tooth months back, I gave in and made and appointment at Rio Vista because I couldn't take the pain any more and they were close to home. As soon as I walked in, I knew it was different. The receptionist was so friendly and accommodating, making sure I was comfortable. Once I got to the back, an absolute angel named Marisol explained what the visit would entail and reassured me that everything would be okay. This was followed by Dr. Bonnie going over the x-rays and the plans for my teeth and actually taking the time to explain everything that would be part of the treatment. She even gave me some lessons about tooth and mouth anatomy! She answered every question and did not rush through her answers at all. Since the initial visit, I have had a cleaning (the dental hygienist was also fabulous), a few fillings, and a root canal/crown. During all treatment, they were very careful and did their absolute best to keep me comfortable and feeling no pain! And on the topic of pain, the financial side of this practice is just a good! Ms. Becky submitted what she could to my insurance and made sure my Care Credit was done in way that would save me the most money and avoid interest. From the moment you walk in to the moment you walk out, there isn't a single thing that I would change about Rio Vista Dentistry. I would recommend Dr. Bonnie to anyone in need of dental work or preventative care. The care you will get with her is second to none!

Dr. Bonnie is amazing! She really pays attention to the little things and tries to make me feel as comfortable as possible. She rubbed lavender oil on my joints and offered me some Advil for my tired jaw after an appointment that required me to "open-wide" for a prolonged period of time. So thoughtful. Thanks Dr. Bonnie!
