We are a single doctor office in San Jose, and Dr. Jow will personally be here to see you at your visits with us. You will also be treated with friendly, experienced, and personable staff in a fun and caring atmosphere. Dr. Jow often has a topic of the day or current event that we like to discuss and invite our patients to express their thoughts and experiences.
Most orthodontic problems can usually be treated in more than one way. Dr. Jow will discuss several treatment alternatives as appropriate to determine the best treatment for your needs and wishes. Dr. Jow has been teaching diagnosis and treatment planning at UCSF Orthodontics for over 20 years.
We offer traditional braces with the colored ties as well as the latest orthodontic appliances such as concealed In-Ovation L lingual braces on the back of the teeth, self ligating In-Ovation R metal braces and In-Ovation C tooth colored braces as well as Invisalign and other removable appliances.
Our modern and up-to-date office utilizes computerized digital xray equipment for best imaging and lowest dose. We are able to produce routine diagnostic records in our office for your convenience. We also use computerized sterilization equipment that is spore test monitored by an independent laboratory.
Dr. Jow graduated with highest honors from the University of California, Davis in 1980 and was elected to the honor societies of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi. He graduated with honors from Dental School in 1984 from the University of California, San Francisco and was elected to the dental honor society of Omicron Kappa Upsilon. During his dental training, Dr. Jow was involved in teaching and research and received awards for his outstanding performance and abilities.
Orthodontic and TMJ post-doctoral training was completed in 1986 at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Jow completed his Masters Degree in 1987 at U.C.L.A. He has presented and published several research papers and abstracts on jaw muscle endurance and recovery.
Dr. Jow is a Clinical Professor at the UCSF School of Dentistry and has been teaching clinical orthodontics and orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning since 1989. He received recognition for Excellence in Instruction in 1994. In addition, Dr. Jow has passed the written examination of the American Board of Orthodontics.
Dr. Jow began his practice in San Francisco in 1986. In addition to treating children and adolescents, Dr. Jow acquired extensive experience in multi-disciplinary adult orthodontic treatment working in concert with his brother, who is a prosthodontist, and other dental specialists. Later, he began a practice in Fremont gaining even more experience in early treatment of orthodontic and orthopedic problems in children.
Dr. Jow is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, California State Society of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, California Dental Association, and Santa Clara County Dental Society.
Dr. Jows hobbies include designing, building, and flying radio-controlled model helicopters. His speed helicopter fuselage won the International Speed Cup event in 2012. He also enjoys machining, working with composites, and crafting details on scale model helicopters, then flying them to emulate their full size counterparts.

Our dentist, Dr. Jeff Ching in Cupertino, referred us to Dr. Rick Jow, and we're so glad he did; both of my sons needed considerable orthodontic corrections, and the results are nothing short of spectacular compared with how they went in. Didn't know teeth are able to change that much.... We think Dr Jow is not only very capable, he's very friendly, funny and gentle, just like the rest of the office staff, and his assistant Cathy. It's very important the kids trust and like their orthodontist and his team, since it is a process of many appointments, over many years. My kids adore Dr.Jow, and don't mind going to their appointments at all. We had several of the usual broken/loose wire mishaps, and could come in to have it repaired almost immediately. We highly recommend him, you'll feel lucky to have found him, just like we do.

Our children's smiles look fabulous, thanks to Dr. Jow's precision and attention to detail. Our oldest two are out of braces now, and the youngest is just starting his orthodontic journey with Dr. Jow. Back when we needed to choose an orthodontist for our first child, it was a process to interview and speak with several doctors to get their opinions and price estimates. I was surprised to hear the varied suggestions from different orthodontists when it came to treating my daughter's teeth. I figured everyone would have a similar protocol, but each one gave a slightly different recommendation with a different price tag. After visiting some orthodontist offices, I was starting to wonder if my payments would be going toward funding the expensive decor and cappuccino-makers in the waiting room! We eventually selected Dr. Jow for our orthodontic needs because his suggestions for straightening my daughter's teeth seemed reasonable and would not require extra procedures that seemed unnecessary; his honesty came through in his personal demeanor; and the cost involved was fair. Now that we've been patients of Dr. Jow for a few years, we are so happy with our decision! Over the course of the years, we have become very familiar with Dr. Jow and the office staff. The kids love checking themselves in at the computer and participating in the monthly "guessing game" on the counter. I've always appreciated the excellent communication the office has with our pediatric dentist Dr. Simon Morris, regarding x-rays and updates. I have not had to make any phone calls back and forth from dentist to orthodontist! They handle it all. Rescheduling appointments has never been difficult, and everyone there has a smile on their face! It's a very pleasant office to visit. More importantly, the results from Dr. Jow's work are wonderful! Without hesitation we would highly recommend Dr. Jow!

I went to Dr. Jow to straighten my teeth. They did not fit together so that I could not eat things like raw carrots without pain. So - for my 40th birthday I gave myself a new smile. His staff was great and so was he. He explained everything, and made sure I understood his instructions. He is very people oriented and kids love him. He has a fun and friendly office. It's been a few years since I had them off and people STILL compliment my smile. In fact - I like him and his staff so much that I'm taking my granddaughter to get her teeth straightened there. As far as finances are concerned it was far less than I thought it would be, and he works with a company that helps you to make payments (painless ones). I highly recommend him!!
